Driving in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden, The Fortes Ice Hotel Trip. March 2016.
Ice Hotel, Jukkasjarvi, Sweden
Ice hotel is located in a small of Jukkasjärvi in North Sweden. The nearest town to Jukkasjärvi is Kiruna, from where we have daily trains from major cities of Sweden. From Kiruna, Jukkasjärvi is a 15 drive from car/bus. Jukkasjärvi town itself is a pretty destination. A walk in Jukkasjärvi town in summer brings up views of cute wooden cabins in the backdrop of Torne River surrounded by lush green vegetation. Colourful flowers pop up in every corner of the town. It was first inhabited by the folks of Sami tribe and the town even hosts a Sami museum where we can get a glimpse of lives of Sami ancestors.
Every year, in the winter, this hotel is built out of ice mined from the nearby river. It stays on until summer and melts away when summer sets in. And next year, they build it all over again! Mind blowing, isn’t it??

Kiruna (Sweden) - Northern Lights
- First impressions (February 2016) -
Kiruna (Swedish Lapland) is about 1,5 hour drive from the Abisko National Park.
Abisko, in the middle of the auroral zone, is considered to be the best place on earth to see the Aurora Borealis. With its fresh, clear air and its practically permanent cloud-free sky the prerequisites in Abisko are optimal. More or less active northern lights can be seen almost every night.

IceHotel Sweden Experience
ICE HOTEL SWEDEN EXPERIENCE | VLOG 7
Welcome to the ICEHOTEL! Staying in a hotel room made entirely of ice, snow and snice (yep snow ice) seems like it would be extremely scary and not so much fun. But, in this video, Lacey Jones and her husband Keith, show you how cool (pun intended!) the Ice Hotel in Sweden can be. This place is the ultimate bucket list adventure.
You'll find the best Ice Hotel Tour including dogsledding to the Icehotel from the Kiruna airport, hanging out at the Ice Bar with friends, a peek into the ice suites, and sleeping in an ice room... all in the first day!
On day two, you'll get to see how much fun snowmobiling on the frozen Torne river can be. Afterwards, Lacey and her hubby watch the Summer Swim, which happens only once a year in Jukkasjarvi. You'll also get to see the hot rooms at the IceHotel. The last day wraps up with a traditional Swedish Sauna experience; you get to see first hand how to sauna like a local.
Hope you enjoy this IceHotel experience! Let us know in the comments below if you have any questions about the trip!

DORMA ED100 and ED250 Swing Door Operators at the Icehotel, Sweden
Reliable even north of the Arctic Circle. Even the extreme cold weather in the north of Sweden does not impair ED 100 and ED 250 technology. Location: Jukkasjärvi, Lapland, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle. Every year, selected artists build the world-famous Icehotel in this location. A cool location packed with art and adventure. It stands to reason that such a special location may only be equipped with intelligent technology. Therefore an electromechanical swing door operator from our ED 100/250 series provides the Royal Deluxe Suite with maximum user convenience. Despite an interior temperature of only -8 °C, the operator moves the door smoothly and ensures reliable closing behavior.
Kiruna, Sweden Dog Sledding 6 Day Tour - Jukkasjärvi Wilderness Tours
In January 2013 I went on a 6 Day dog sledding adventure in Kiruna, Sweden. I don't know how to describe it other than totally awesome. Such a great experience. Cold but not too cold, around -20C during the day and maybe -30ish at night. Snowed non stop most of the time, which means we rarely saw the sun or stars, but that was the trade off for slightly warmer temps. Great tour company ( I booked the tour through Nature Travels in the UK ( We had an awesome guide, Marcus, who really made the trip great. Saw the northern lights only one night unfortunately, but at least got good photos that night. The last day was a bit rough (deep snow and water on the lake ice), Marcus said it was the hardest day he's out that year.
Here's a more recent and more ear-pleasing video of the same location:
