Driving the ICEFIELDS PARKWAY (from Lake Louise to Jasper Alberta)
In this video, we take you on a drive up the Icefields Parkway (aka: highway 93 Alberta) from stunning Lake Louise to beautiful Jasper, going through both Banff National Park and Jasper National Park. There are tons of sights along the way, including a variety of hikes, but if you only have a day to get up there, the most popular stops include Peyto Lake, the Columbia Icefield and the Athabasca Glacier, Sunwapta Falls, and Athabasca Falls.
The Icefields Parkway is often ranked as the most scenic drive in the world, and we don't doubt that claim. It's spectacular. Mountains, glaciers, pine forests, turquoise lakes, waterfalls, and more greet you on this amazing iconic Canadian road trip.
There's also fun attractions like the Columbia Ecefield tour, Athabasca glacier tour, and the Columbia Icefields skywalk.
The distance from Banff to Jasper is about 3.5 hours, but that does not include all the stops you will make along the way. The Icefields Parkway basically starts close to the turn-off for Lake Louise.
Enjoy the video!

Driving the Icefields Parkway through Banff National Park, Canada *HD*
From Wikipedia:
The Icefields Parkway, also known as Highway 93 north, is a scenic road in Alberta, Canada. It parallels the Continental Divide, traversing the rugged landscape of the Canadian Rockies, travelling through Banff National Park and Jasper National Park. It links Lake Louise with Jasper to the north. At its southern end, the Icefields Parkway terminates at the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1). Highway 1 west goes to Yoho National Park in British Columbia and Highway 1 east to Lake Louise and the Town of Banff. A second parkway, the Bow Valley Parkway also links Lake Louise and the Town of Banff. Known as Highway 1A, this road parallels Highway 1 and, at the midpoint, passes the Castle Mountain junction where Highway 93 south, or the Banff-Windermere Highway, branches southwest into Kootenay National Park in British Columbia.
The Icefields Parkway, 230 km (140 mi) long, was completed in 1940. It is named for features such as the Columbia Icefield, visible from the parkway.
The parkway is busy in July and August with up to 100,000 vehicles a month. The parkway is mainly two lanes with occasional passing lanes. It minimizes grades and hairpin turns but travellers must look out for wildlife, and vehicles stopped on the shoulder. Snow can be expected at any time of year and extreme weather is common in winter.
A Canadian national parks permit is required to travel on the Icefields Parkway; stations near Lake Louise and Jasper enforce the law. Commercial trucks are prohibited. The speed limit is 90 km/h (55 mph) although the limit is reduced at Saskatchewan River Crossing and the Columbia Icefield area. In winter, chains or all-season radial tires are required by law and road closures are not uncommon.
Icefields Parkway - From Banff to Jasper National Parks - Alberta Canada Travel
I have had a poster of Moraine Lake on my living room wall for years and could not WAIT to see this incredible place in person! I headed to Alberta Canada (and a bit of British Columbia) to experience this incredible region!
From Lake Louise in Banff National Park, I took the famous Icefields Parkway all the up to Jasper. Stopping along the way at Sunwapta and Athabasca Falls, Columbia Icefield, and so much more. The Canadian Rockies have absolutely blown me away!
Here's a glimpse at this epic road trip!

- Peyto Lake
- Crowfoot Glacier
- Saskatchewan River Crossing
- Mistaya Canyon
- Wilcox Pass Trail
- Bridal Veil Falls
- Sunwapta Pass
- Tangle Creek Falls
- Stutfield Glacier
- Athabasca Falls
- Horseshoe Lake
- Valley of the Five Lakes

As we continued our trek Northwards in Banff, we had the opportunity to visit both Peyto Lake and Bow Lake.
Peyto Lake was just as ridiculous as we’d seen in photographs. Yes- the water really is that color of turquoise. Since photo ops at the lake have gotten so popular, you’re best off visiting early in the morning before the crowds show up and while the sun is shining the “correct” way. Later in the day the sun is on the other side of the mountains and the lake appears a bit more dull.
Bow Lake was just a few minutes up the road from Peyto. This was another example of lucking out with our inflatable kayak. While you wouldn’t want to try to go on expedition with an inflatable kayak, it was a perfect way to spend the afternoon flopping around on the water when everyone else was stuck on shore.
We end up using our inflatable kayak quite a few times on our trip- more than enough for it to “pay” for itself by skipping out on rentals. It has the advantage of packing down quite small and being easy to transport.
Of course, this is compensated by a couple of negatives:
It’s not nearly as easy to glide through the water as a real kayak
Inflating it takes time
Deflating it takes time
But it's still a great packable option to get us on the water from the RV! Would totally recommend.

ABOUT US:
We’re traveling full time, living on our own terms and showing you the up-close-and-personal details of us figuring it out along the way. Sometimes it’s about navigating big, life-altering decisions. Sometimes it’s about navigating the seemingly lawless free-for-all that is driving in Hanoi. It’s moments of triumph and moments of panic. The good, the bad, the ugly – and most importantly, the real and real funny.
We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.” Just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem. We believe the world’s a more interesting place when people reject convention in favor of what they actually care about. This is us putting that idea to the test – one budget spreadsheet, RV renovation and mountain-peak drone video at a time.

BLOG: 8 Reasons to Visit Banff & Jasper National Parks Early -
After a spring visit to Lake Louise we headed a little ways south to the town of Banff to check it out and explore the area. We had a great time, hiking, biking and skiing all within two days. Afterwards we headed up the icefields parkway with some amazing stops along the way. Johnston canyon was a bit of a drive off the main highway but was so worth the hike. Because it was still early spring many of the trails and even parking areas were closed due to snow but we enjoyed a few great views along the way. The Athabasca glacier was an amazing site and a good overnight stop as they have a parking area just for RVs. This year there was construction at the main campground in Jasper so there are limited options, but we found a site at Snaring river overflow that had just opened the day we got there. Our drive the Maligne lake was beautiful as well, but like most of the other lakes we tried to visit it was still frozen over. The final leg of this adventure took us through Grand Cache up to Grand Prairie to restock on food, fuel water and get a few other things we needed before leaving a larger city.

Icefields parkway, Banff national park, Canada
This is a short video from the october trip to the icefields parkway in Banff national park, Alberta, one of the most beautiful drives in the world, full of lakes with turquoise crystalline waters.
PEYTO LAKE, Banff National Park, Canadian Rockies, Alberta, Canada
Peyto Lake is located in Banff National Park near Bow Summit approximately 38Km north of Lake Louise on the Icefields Parkway. The lake itself is easily accessed from the Icefields Parkway. It was named for Bill Peyto, an early trail guide and trapper in the Banff area.
Glacial lakes have that beautiful turquoise color due to fine grained glacial silt suspended in the water. The silt tends to refract the blue-green spectra of the sun's white light.

DRIVING THE ICEFIELDS PARKWAY // THE ROCKIES
Our alarm clock this morning was the surrounding nature, wildlife and no doubt the cold. However that is nothing that a nice hot shower and steaming pot of coffee wont fix.
Today's trip was mainly focused on driving from Japser to Banff via the Icefields Parkway. This stretch of road will literally take you through the heart of the Rockies, whilst being able to stop at lakes, waterfalls and glaciers on the way.
This drive is absolutely stunning and definitely one for the bucket list. Speaking of...Lake Louise tomorrow. We are super excited to share. So make sure to subscribe so you don't miss the next vlog in our Canada series.
