Oikawa represents the 4th generation of a family of calligraphers, a history which originated with her great grandfather, a calligrapher some 150 years ago towards the end of the Edo period in Japan.
At four years of age, Oikawa started to learn calligraphy from her grandfather, Oikawa Habei.
In 1967, when she was 16 years old, she earned her first award as a calligrapher, and subsequently she received many important awards for her Japanese calligraphy. Oikawa has been certified to teach calligraphy, and in 1972 opened a calligraphy school.
In 1973, she also took up the Okoto, a traditional Japanese instrument, and played a concert at NHK Hall National Theater.
Oikawa’s calligraphy was displayed as a Japanese national treasure, at the Bulgarian National Library, and was collected by the library along with the calligraphy of former Prime Minister, Shinsuke Kishi - (grandfather of the current Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe).
She has exhibited in Hong Kong, Paris (at the Salon du Dessin), Los Angeles, Zurich, Lublin (Poland), Metz (France), Honolulu, Seoul, Cairo, Prague, Vienna, Moscow, Tokyo, and many other places.
Her art has been collected by various museums, including Taiwan National History Museum, Ethnographic Museum of the Republic Bulgaria, National Museum of Serbia in Belgrade, Ichikawa City Museum in Chiba Prefecture (Japan), Oriental museum German cairn, as well as by private collectors in Poland and in France
Oikawa showcases her various skills, combining calligraphy performance with playing Okoto and singing the Japanese 31-syllable Japanese poem called “tanka” to make Japanese culture more accessible to non-Japanese.
About TAAC
Taiwanese American Arts Council (TAAC), based in New York City, fosters awareness of Taiwanese American art and encourages dialogue on artistic issues within the broader community in the United States. TAAC was established in 2014 to carry forward the mission of the Taiwanese Art Endowment Fund which spurred the creation of a named Taiwan Gallery by the Queens Museum. Dr. Lung Fong Chen and Taiwanese community leaders Thomas Chen and Patrick Huang created an organization to provide a platform for Taiwanese American artists. Professional curator Luchia Meihua Lee, with the pioneer of Taiwan modern print making, Prof. Liao Shiou Ping, provided the expertise and art resources to realize this dream. TAAC will support cultural and art leaders in different fields and in all states in the US and all counties in Taiwan.
About the Curator:
Luchia Meihua Lee
Ms. Lee is the founding Executive Director of Taiwanese American Arts Council. She is a distinguished independent curator, and has successfully curated many significant exhibitions and events at museums, art organizations, and galleries。Ms. Lee is deeply involved in the contemporary art scene in the New York metropolitan area, and she has published numerous catalogues and other written works. She is co-editor of the book entitled Zhang Hongtu: Expanding Visions of a Shrinking World co-published by Duke University Press and Queens Museum. She was Director and Chief Curator of the Exhibition Department of the National Taiwanese Museum of Art, Cultural Specialist at the Council for Cultural Affairs in Taiwan, and curator at the Chinese Information and Cultural Center Taipei gallery in New York City. Her exhibitions have received international acclaim from leading media venues including the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. She is a committee member and art consultant of numerous art organizations, and has served on many art juries.

市川市市制施行80周年記念 プロジェクションマッピング 「RAY ROAD」光と音のスパークリング・シンフォニー
平成26年（2014年）11月3日に市制施行80周年を迎える。
市川市の歴史・情景・産物を表現し、子どもから大人まで楽しめるイベントを企画。
80 周年にかけて建物の3面を利用したワイド80メートルの超大型プロジェクションマッピングで、床面の投影をリンクさせたダイナミックな異空間を展開。
映像は市川市が誇る美しい景観、会場の現代産業科学館や隣接の中央図書館をモチーフにしたもの、話題のコツメカワウソも登場。
さらにこの作品のために制作されたオリジナル音源が幻想的な世界へと誘い、wifi環境でスマートフォンとイヤホンがあれば、音が前後を飛び交うような感覚のヘッドフォンサラウンドも体感できる。
入場者は、2日間で2万人以上も動員した。

In 2014 Ichikawa city grew 80 years old. To celebrate this, the history of the city, its products and sceneries, the RAY ROAD event was set up.
With a 80m width spread over three main faces of the museum, the projection was astonishing. On the ground a fourth face gave the projection an even deeper dimension.
The movie features Ichikawa city's most beautiful sights, the nearby library as well as the museum itself took part in the play.
Last but not least; the sound experiment!
Connecting your smartphone to the WiFi in the projection area would give you the possibility to listen to more effects, and enjoy the sound of the show on another level.
We were very happy to welcome over 20,000 people during the two days of the show.

Japanese road with beautiful sky. Seto-Shi to Owariasahi-Shi drive
The sky was so beautiful that I had to record it. The video resolution ended up being decent. Forgive the squeaky clutch, I have an old vehicle.
The drive is about 4 kms, and goes from Seto-shi, (shi means town) an historical small town know for its pottery, to Owariasahi-shi, another small town. Both are next to Nagoya, a large city in central Japan.
Please do let me know if there is a particular place or thing you would like to see in/about Japan.
Japan | Floating Flower Garden at Tokyo Science Museum | Family Travel Vlog
I saw some articles about an amazing floating/hanging flower garden in Tokyo, Japan. (The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation), and Chiaki helped me plan a day trip! It was so good to spend the time with her. We also enjoyed the other exhibits, including a submarine and an android! I included footage from the train rides before and after to give a bit of context into my life and help you see how bringing a small child and a baby can make a day trip more challenging as well as more rewarding.

STORYLINE:
It''s one of the most famous skylines in the world: Manhattan''s breath-taking cityscape of skyscrapers symbolises the power and wealth of the United States - a fact recognised by the September 11 bombers when they targeted its two most potent symbols, the Twin Towers.
Now, just blocks from Ground Zero in lower Manhattan - the huge, empty hole where the World Trade Centre Towers once stood - the new Skyscraper Museum opened on Friday.
The new 5,800 square-foot (539 square-metre), ground floor gallery, housed in the same building as the Ritz-Carlton hotel, opened with an exhibition entitled Building a Collection.
It includes photos, drawings, models, books and other items to showcase the construction and history of skyscrapers.
One wall has drawings of current and planned buildings, to show the future of the tall buildings.
They include plans for the 1,776-foot (541 metre) Freedom Tower to be built at the reconstructed World Trade Centre site.
This summer, the museum will host an exhibit on the World Trade Centre, featuring an original model of the site, and, in October a show focusing on the designs of the iconic American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Shochiku Otani Library, Shinbashi Enbujo, Togeki (Tokyo Gekijo), and Kabuki-za
This video shows the area around the headquarters of Japan's Shochiku Corporation, a huge entertainment conglomerate that runs the major kabuki theatres in downtown Tokyo. You can see the building in which the Shochiku Otani Library is located, the Shinbashi Enbujo, the Kabuki-za, and the Togeki (Tokyo Gekijo), all located within a short distance from one another.

(Also share in CNN iReport) One month after the disaster, life seemed to have returned to normal in many parts of Japan. In the streets of Tokyo, people are going to work and transportation back to normal, though a nuclear emergency is still unfolding at a crippled nuclear plant in Fukushima.
The cherry blossoms has already fallen in the mid of April, now it's time for tulip to take over the job to cheer up the spring season in Japan. In Sakura city, Chiba Prefecture, local residents and visitors were holding the Annual Tulip Festival. This festival is held every year to commemorate the friendship between the Netherlands and Japan. There are more than 140 types of tulips bloom in Sakura Furusato.
As radiation level showing normal in Chiba Prefecture, many people here came and celebrating a picnic in outdoor places. The government of Japan has asked the people of Japan not to do an over jishuku which means do not over self restrain in remembering the victims of tsunami. They asked people of Japan to do things normally and start to boost the economy of Japan.
People who gathered here today believed that many people in the city had recovered from the quake and wanted to move on with life. They said they were convinced that as long as one was still living, there would be hope.
Tulip Festival in Sakura City could be a sign of recovery in Japan. However, despite the celebration, mixed feelings could still be detected in the singing and eating scenes.
