Saw the autumn leaves in Geibikei Gorge. The River Boat Cruise was about an hour and a half; relaxing, quiet, peaceful, and the scenery is beautiful. We stopped halfway and was able to explore by foot and there's an area with a bridge where you can throw a fortune stone into a hole in the cliffside. On the way back we were treated to traditional singing from our boatman.

열차에서 또 다시 나의 발길을 멈추게 한 곳. 잔잔한 파도가 일렁이는 조용한 바다가 엄마의 품처럼 따뜻하게 느껴진다. 그런데 무엇을 보는지 사람들이 한 곳을 한참 쳐다본다. 바다 속에 해녀들이 보인다. 이곳 고소데 해안의 해녀는 최북단의 해녀로 불린다. 맨몸으로 물에 들어가 작업을 하는 해녀를 보기 위해 관광객들이 많이 찾는다. 제대로 된 잠수 장비도 없이 물 속 깊이 내려갔던 해녀가 다시 수면 위로 올라오면 물 밖에서 기다렸던 관광객들은 해녀를 보고 놀라워하며 응원의 박수를 보낸다. 파도가 높거나 추운 겨울에는 잠수 작업을 쉬어도 좋지만 요즘 같은 여름, 이곳 해녀들은 본래의 해녀 일 외에도 관광업으로 또 잠수를 해서 채취를 해야하기 때문에 7,8,9월이 되면 바쁜 시간을 보낸다. “대단하네요. 저는 헤엄을 못 치는데, (해녀분들은) 저렇게 많이 잡네요.” 해녀들이 관광객을 위한 잠수를 끝내고 물 밖으로 올라온다. 나오자마자 물속에서 캔 것을 보여주는데, 바다의 보양식, 성게다. 그런데 해녀 옷이 잠수복이 아니다. “이 옷은 해녀 전통복장인가요?” “맞아요. 관광용 해녀로서의 의상입니다. 채취가 가능한 기간이 한정되어 있어서 이 근처 해녀들은 관광에 종사했는데 그런 의미에서 이 의상이 전통적이라고 볼 수 있습니다.” 지금도 전통 해녀복을 입는 곳은 이곳뿐이란다. 그래서인지 해녀가 되기 위해 멀리서 이곳까지 오는 젊은 사람도 있다. “TV연속극 ‘아마짱(해녀)’을 보고 해녀 일을 하고 싶어서 지바현에서 이와테로 이주했습니다.” “해녀 일을 몇 년 정도 하셨어요?” “30년 이상 됐습니다. 이제 앞으로 더 할 수 있을 것 같지는 않아요.” 갓 캐낸 성게는 그 자리에서 바로 쪼개어 내장을 제거하고 즉석 회로 밥 위에 얹어서 먹는다. “맛있어요.” 단백질이 풍부한 성게에서 바다의 맛이 그대로 전해진다.

デゴイチの愛称で知られるD51形蒸気機関車(SL D51-498号)が、JR東北本線の一ノ関駅～北上駅間を「SLイーハトーブいわて物語号」、釜石線の北上駅～釜石駅間を「SL銀河ドリーム号」として、岩手県の観光PR「いわてデスティネーションキャンペーン(DC)推進協議会」との連携により2012年6月2日～17日までの週末6日間、運行されました。
A SL D51-498, a Japanese famous steam locomotive for its nickname of Degoichi, traveled from Kitokami Station from Ichinoseki Station on the Tohoku Main Line and traveled from Kitakami Station on the Kamaishi Line to Kamaishi Station.This event was held as a part of the Iwate Japan destination campaign.

Trip to Hiroshima & Miyajima | Japan Travel Vlog
We visited Hiroshima, the city that was a-bombed during world war II. We visited Hiroshima Castle and the Hiroshima Peace park and Peace museum.
Later we went to the island Miyajima, famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water.
