Idaho Mammoth Cave, flashlight, part 1, 4k
This is Idaho's Mammoth Cave near Shoshone, Idaho. This video is lit with a flashlight. At 0:46 is a sign for Idaho Mammoth Cave and Shoshone Bird Museum. At 1:02 is the entrance to the cave. Notice it isn't very far below ground. At 1:21 there is a brown rabbit. The owner of the cave says it's wild, not a pet. At 1:45 is a fallout shelter sign. At 2:05 notice the trail curves so it isn't too steep. At 3:38 there is a small hole in the floor. At 4:03 there is writing on the wall and a sign about the writing on the wall. At 5:10 notice how the bottom of the wall is white and the top is dark. Much of the cave is like this, but in some places it's more obvious. At 6:05 there are a couple of people with kerosene lanterns. At 7:15 is a sign but my camera isn't good enough quality for it to be readable in the video. At 7:57 there is a hole with a plastic lining. I forgot to ask the cave owner about this.

Shoshone Ice Cave, part 2, 4k
This is Shoshone Ice Cave near Shoshone, Idaho. This cave has guided tours only, but I managed to be the only tourist in this group. At 0:45 I'm inside the cave. Notice like many other tourist caves it has lighting installed. At 1:23 the left wall sparkles. At 4:34 there's a weird circle in the ice. The guide says it might be a methane bubble. Can anyone confirm or deny? At 7:13 are some formations. These are real, but moved from another cave.

Identity of man found in cave 40 years ago has been revealed, along with his colorful criminal past
DUBOIS -- Nobody could have guessed the identity of a man whose body was found in the Civil Defense Caves in 1979.
For 40 years, anthropologists, scientists and investigators from Idaho State University all the way to the Smithsonian and the FBI tried to unravel the mystery of who this man was. The big question none of them could figure out was how long he had been in the caves.
The answers were revealed Tuesday during a riveting news conference held by Clark County Sheriff Bart May and others involved in the decades-long investigation.
The man's remains were so well preserved, there was still skin on the body. Anthropologists believed that he had maybe only been in the caves for five to 10 years. When the DNA Doe Project finally put the genetic and genealogical pieces together, they learned he had been in the cave since 1916.
Through our research, following the tireless experts of innumerable experts, we have identified Clark County John Doe. His name was Joseph Henry Loveless, DNA Doe Project team leader Anthony Redgrave said. Joseph Henry Loveless was born Dec. 3, 1870, in Payson, Utah territory.
Loveless was a notorious outlaw, bootlegger, jailbird and a vicious murderer, according to newspaper records from the era.
