Southeast Asia | 20 Day Itinerary: Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam
Full recommended two week itinerary (I highly recommend this after my trip!)
TOP TRAVEL TIPS:
PHI PHI ISLANDS:
*Phi Phi Island are a must, and if you like to party, Captain Bob's is also a must:
*To get to Phi Phi Islands, take a taxi to any of the easter harbors in Phuket, several boats will get you to Phi Phi Islands.
FULL MOON PARTY:
*Full Moon Party Info (get your reservation in early, and buy a white tank top, then have fun!)
*To get to the full moon party, take a flight to Ko Samui, when you get off the flight book a taxi and ferry ride to Haad Rin
*If you are short on time, SKIP northern Thailand! If you have time, then spend time hiking and exploring up there.
BANGKOK:
*Spend minimal time in Bangkok, but do not miss Wat Arun, The Grand Palace, and book a tour to see the famous floating market and the train market:
SIEM REAP:
*Siem Reap is a fun town to stay in with Pub Street which includes lots of bars and restaurants
*Angkor Wat is not to be rushed! You need atleast two full days, and if you're really into it, I would go atleast three days.
HALONG BAY:
*Hanoi is a pretty crazy city, so just know that going in!
*For a fun party cruise with great accomodations, I would recommend Oasis Bay Party Cruise:
-The cruise comes with Transportation from Hanoi, food, a great suit, and some drinks, kayaking, jumping off the boat, and beer yoga. Plus several hot tubs and we had a great group with us.

How To Travel THAILAND On A BUDGET: Chiang Mai Travel GUIDE
THAILAND TRAVEL GUIDE - I spent a whole month traveling through Chiang Mai, as part of my bigger SEA trip. Chiang Mai was BEAUTIFUL, probably one of the best places I stayed. Plenty of things to do there, and you'll really enjoy this one. Chiang Mai has lots of temples, shopping malls and things to do that aren't temples, so there really is something for everyone. In the north of Chiang Mai, you'll find lots of waterfalls and things like that. There's LOTS of things to do in Chiang Mai!
I spent 3 months backpacking through South East Asia. The countries I visited were Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. I would say these videos show how you can do Southeast Asia on a shoestring as we went to very budget friendly places. This video is a mixture between a backpacking vlog and a street walking video. I like to show what it’s REALLY like in the places I visit.
I actually wrote a HUGE blog post about South East Asia which you might find interesting here:

10 Best Places to Visit in Thailand - Travel Video
Thailand is a collage of animated scenes that comprise bustling modern cities crowded with motorbikes and tuk-tuks, Buddhist temples tended by orange-robed monks, hill tribes selling handicrafts, lush landscapes dotted with traditional farming villages, ancient ruins and stunning coastlines peppered with gorgeous beaches and blue lagoons. Such a captivating portrait explains why Thailand is Southeast Asia’s most popular travel destination.

1) Chiang Mai is famous for its night markets. We suggest starting off at the Sunday Night Market which is best explored from Thapea Gate. From handicrafts to silverware and from souvenirs to silks, you'll shop until you drop. In my opinion, an even better thing to do at the market is to indulge in as much Thai street food as possible.
2) Elephant tourism runs rampant in and around Chiang Mai. Unfortunately, the well being of the elephants is rarely a consideration. Visiting the Elephant Nature Park, known as an elephant sanctuary and rehabilitation center, is somewhere you can go to interact with elephants knowing full well they are being taken care of and not exploited. A trip to the park is a memorable experience that is both incredibly fun and extremely education.
3) From the roof of our apartment building we had often had unobstructed views of Doi Suthep. It was only a matter of time before we decide to take a Songthaew up to explore it on foot. Although it is very touristy, it is still well worth a visit - especially for the views of Chiang Mai!
4) Few cuisines are more famous around the world than Thai food. While you're in Chiang Mai be sure to take a cooking class to learn how to make all of your favorite Thai dishes. An even better idea is to go to the countryside where you can have a more authentic and rural cooking experience.
5) Although I love the Sunday Night Market my favorite night market in Chiang Mai happens on Saturday. Possibly because it is only a stone throw away from where we lived in Chiang Mai, I just enjoyed wandering through the maze of people and shops to eat as much Thai street food as possible.
6) You can't visit Chiang Mai without trying its most famous Northern Thai dish - Khao Soi. Crispy and soft noodles float around in a coconut milk base with various vegetables. It's delicious and one of the cheapest meal options in the city!
7) When you have time - and a friend to go with - reserve a table at a restaurant that specializes in Khantoke sets. Served with sticky rice and a plethora of small dishes you'll get a real sense of what Northern Thai food is all about.
8) Wander around the neighborhoods outside of the city center. A big part of why Chiang Mai is so charming has to do with its various neighborhoods. Get off the beaten path and just go explore around. Here we show you our neighborhood, which is not far from Chiang Mai South Gate.

6 MUST KNOW TIPS FOR BACKPACKING THAILAND
6 Things I’ve Learned from Traveling through Thailand
1. Researching common scams before getting to your destination. This was my first time travelling through a less wealthy nation and I was suprised about how much the locals were not giving genuine advice to tourists and directing people towards scams or terrible ideas.Pretty much any local (especially taxi cab and tuktuk drivers) that approaches you, you should proceed with extreme caution as it’s pretty likely that person is attempting to get money out of you.
2. Google will not solve everything in Asia.I was under the impression that Google Maps always had the best route to get to my next destination, when in reality there are a lot of things that Google didn’t know. Bangkok for example is a very poorly designed city for tourism. All the big tourism attractions are located no where near any of the metro/subway lines. Busses are useless as traffic in Bangkok is horrible. Which means you are stuck using a taxi or a motocycle taxi if you want to get somewhere quickly. Google maps didn’t know that there was a ferry line on the river that goes straight to the tourism areas, and it’s also the fastest way to get out of the tourism areas as well. Google Maps is great in western countries but does very poorly in Asia.
3. Bangkok is a terrible travel destination. It’s Los Vegas without the casinos and with way more prostititues and ladyboys. I believe the city bring the worse out of people as the city tourism is dominated with sex, drugs and money. You’ll find travellers in the region recommend that you get out of Bangkok as fast as possible, as most people dislike it as a travel destination.Treat it as a transit hub, and move on to the Southern Islands or the northern regions.
4. Go out and meet new people. This was a trip where I was solo travelling and I was fortunate enough to meet absolutely wonderful people along the way. For me it was either meeting people enroute to a destination, meeting other travellers at a tourism attraction, or simply meeting new friends at a hostel. I feel like it’s always nice to learn other people stories along the way. Don’t be afraid to let go either. I’ve switched companions quite often as our travel intenaries didn’t align, but I’ve added people on Facebook and you never know when your interaries will magically align again later in life.
5. Carry a smaller backpack. I currently carry a 70L Osprey Aether backpack with an additional 15L Daylite Pack and I also bring my Manfrotto D1 backpack to carry all my drone and camera equipment when I travel. Weight is the number one issues I have when I travel and I believe that If I give myself extra space in my bag. Eventually it will be filled with something I shouldn’t be carrying on my adventures. Figure out how to save on weight, and you’ll have more energy on your adventures explore and discover you destination.
6. Domestic flights are insanely cheap in Thailand. Also discount regional airlines are also insanely cheap too. If you like to not plan your adventures and just go with the flow, often you can just show up at the airport with cash and be on a flight within 2 hours. This also works well with people that don’t have access to credit or the bank has blocked your account due to “fraudulent” activity. Alternatively if you liked the more planned approach through South East Asia, then I highly recommend you check out the ASEAN Pass from Air Asia. You need to book the flights 2 weeks in advance after purchasing your flight. But you gain 10 credits to fly to any chain of destinations you wish.

Best Things To Do And See in Chiang Mai Thailand
Here are some of the best things to do and see in Chiang Mai in Thailand. Commonly referred to as Thailand’s second city, Chiang Mai is a vibrant, colourful hotspot to visit for some of Thailand’s finest street markets, Thai street food, temples and scenery and is a quieter, smaller yet fascinating variation from Bangkok with its own charms.
As a tourist to Thailand, you wouldn’t want to miss out on this city and if you are a backpacker, you can find cheap dorms ($3) and hostels rooms starting around 6$ in this city way cheaper than in the more tourist rich areas of the country further south such as Koh Samui. Indeed, it forms an integral part of the backpacker’s trail, especially if you are trying to do things on a budget yet want to get that authentic cultural and insightful stay.
Backpacking in Thailand can be one of the safest and cheapest of travel experiences and is a good starting place on the map for any budding backpacker. Nearby in the north of Thailand are the other great destinations of Pai and Chiang Rai, all offering something different as they are inland destinations rather than the tourist heavy destinations of South Thailand – Bangkok, Koh Phangang, Pattaya, Phuket and Koh Lipe, Koh Lanta and the other beach resorts of Thailand. As well as the special temple at Wat Doi Suthep which contains the famous golden seated Buddha and can be reached by hiking the hills or via a traditional songthaew. ANother famous but ruined temple is Wat Chedi Luang founded in 1401 – a unique air of mystery surrounds this place and it shouldn’t be missed.
The Chiang Mai Gate Market is an absolute must for the best in Thai street food and market experience, especially at night as is the Sunday walking street starting at Thapae Gate. Don’t miss out on some of the best Thailand nightlife in these areas which are packed with bars and clubs after you’ve eaten.
If you want to see elephants being treated humanely, ethically and in sustainable ways on your visit to inland Thailand, one of the best places to see them is at the Elephant Nature Park (ENP) near Chiang Mai.
Getting out of the city yields beautiful trekking country in the hills where you’ll often come across tribes, waterfalls, Lakes and lakehouses such as at Mae Ngat Dam.
