By running an hour's drive north from Anchorage I found a dog sled headquarters. Eotneunde that everything related to dogs in this place, it felt like a dog gift shop. Cute dogs, including dolls, all kinds of gyeongjugyeon and the appearance that they were active in participating in the sled competition gotta popping into postcards. All related to dogs and stuff it full fills the empty space I was a little embarrassed. Even the bathroom is in the hallway one of the photos was hanging tightly enough. In one of these buildings documentary film about a dog sled it was being screened. The long cold winter sleigh essential means of transportation were the days, man and dog relationship was essential to the survival of the other. Frozen rivers and through the desolate tundra and the sheer slopes of a family could save lives just because it was a dog sled. 1967 dog sled competition was first held to commemorate the day in 1925. To save the lives of children suffering from diphtheria, it ran a distance of 700 miles without the drugs that night and was immediately put on a dog sled.

Dogsledding in Alaska
On my Alaska trip in August 2008,I visited Iditarod trail headquarters in Wasilla and enjoyed a ride in a wheeled dogsled. The musher was Ramy Reddington, son of Joe Reddington who founded the Iditarod Sled Dog Race.
Mrs Moose in Wasilla alaska
I was able to sneak up to with in about 2 feet of a very large cow moose in the yard. Im standing on a 4ft high deck so you can tell how large she was. The second part is of the baby moose and Hollywood our male cat, meeting for the first time.

Alaska Railroad journey from Fairbanks to Anchorage with NASJA
It was nearly 30 below zero when our NASJA delegates boarded the train for our 11 hour trip through the Alaska wilderness. We traveled beneath towering mountains, above frozen rivers, beside caribou and moose, and through the mid-section of our 49th State. Stopping dozens of times along the route for photo ops and waits for wildlife to cross the tracks, we were graced with a clear cold day for excellent viewing inside the cozy rail coach. We passed within 45 miles of 20,000 foot Mt. McKinley, the highest Peak in the U.S., but the only clouds we saw all day were those that obscured sight of this Alaskan natural wonder. Our host on the trip was Harry Ross who has a 44 year history as an Alaska Railroad Conductor, and the subject of a documentary produced by PBS which aired on KQED. Harry is also a jazz and blues singer, and we'll present his rendition of
Misty in a future post. Along the way, we passed Wasilla, Alaska...home of Sarah Palin and the headquarters of the Iditarod Dog Sled Race. Ms. Palin was not at home. We saw her the previous night in Fairbanks to greet husband Todd who finished 2nd in Iron Dog Snowmachine Championship which concluded in front of our hotel. About a dozen active journalists of the North American Snowsports Journalist Association will be producing stories on that race, the World Championship of Ice Sculpting, a visit to the University of Alaska Museum and the Alaska Pipeline from our brief stay in Fairbanks. Now in Anchorage, another couple dozen NASJA press members will join us for our annual convention that begins Tuesday at Alyeska Ski Resort about 45 minutes south on the Seward Highway. Next Saturday, it's the start of the Iditarod in Anchorage with a Glacier Cruise scheduled for Sunday, so plenty more reports, stories, and interviews and videos upcoming from the Great State of Alaska.

It's About Time: The City of Wasilla Remembers History
I've been watching closely while the City of Wasilla has relocated, revamped, restored and reinvigorated the appreciation of our local history. The pioneers who built this State did so in humble buildings that still stand today. The City of Wasilla, under the direction of Mayor Rupright, has been diligently working on the downtown historical park, next to the Wasilla Meta Rose Library and the Dorothy Page Museum.
We recently spoke with LeRoi Heaven, head of the Wasilla Historical Society, while a city work crew lowered the Old Wasilla Post Office onto it's new foundation in the Wasilla Historical Town Site.

In Memory of LeRoi Heaven
On September 26, 2010, everyone in the Mat-Su Valley suffered a loss with the passing of LeRoi Heaven.
LeRoi was heavily involved in raising the appreciation of local history, and because of this devotion to local history he has established his place in it.
Make a Scene started as an open mic event at the Herning Teeland building (currently the location of Krazy Moose Subs) about seven years ago. LeRoi was a regular at those weekly events, which is where I first met him. He was noticeably excited by all the people who would gather for the weekly event, aligning him permanently in my mind with the mission of Make a Scene. Throughout the years since then my path has crossed, and sometimes converged, with LeRoi's. It was always a positive experience with him, whose heart always seemed to be in the right place: his community.
The passing of LeRoi seemed especially poignant since only two months ago I had the chance to interview him about the City of Wasilla's renewed focus on the downtown historical park behind the library (see the inter online at makeasceneAK.com). LeRoi was there as they lowered the old Wasilla Post Office onto its new foundation at the historical park, and I had the pleasure of capturing his honest enthusiasm for the moment. At the time I didn't consider that this interview might serve as a memory of LeRoi, as well as Wasilla. Things happen for a reason.
I feel honored to have known someone of LeRoi's character and devotion. He will not be forgotten.
A memorial will be held at Wasilla High School on November 7th, starting at 3 pm.
