Idle Valley Nature Reserve 8th November 2017
I visited Idle Valley nature reserve on Wednesday 8th.November 2017 the sun was out but rather on the cold side.
This spectacular wetland site covers an area of 450 hectares following the River Idle northwards. The size of 600 football pitches, it is one of the largest sites for nature conservation in the East Midlands. The acquisition of the site is supported by a grant from the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
This extensive nature reserve is home to a diverse range of wildlife and is recognised as one of the richest birding sites in the region. Look out for birds such as gadwall and little grebe in winter, and breeding wading birds including little ringed plover and redshank in spring and summer.

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, the county’s leading conservation charity, welcomed TV Naturailst Nick Baker, Vice-president of the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT) to the county.
Attending in his role as ambassador for Forest Schools inspired projects that RSWT is coordinating thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, Nick joined pupils from Everton Primary School as they enjoyed their latest Woodland Workshop session at the charity’s Idle Valley Nature Reserve and 'thanked' players of People's Postcode Lottery for their support.

Lincoln Reds at Idle Valley Spring 2013
Some endearing footage of 3 of our new Lincoln Red 'Mums' with their calves born in March and April 2013. Apologies for the typ o on the title - they are LINCOLN REDS as opposed to LincolnSHIRE. These cows were bought from funds raised by the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust Cow Appeal that ran in 2012. It's great to see them doing so well and becoming an integral part of the landscape. 55. Holme Pierrepont & New Eel Pass on River Trent
I stayed for a few nights at Holme Pierrepont just east of Nottingham. The River Trent passes through the Colwich Country park here and Molly went for a swim in the long rowing lake at the National Water Sports Centre. I travelled up the river to the lock and weir at Hazelford where I saw an eel pass being built alongside the weir.
