BEST TOURIST SPOTS IN BAGUIO: BURNHAM PARK, STRAWBERRY FARM | MINES VIEW PARK | CHRISTMAS VILLAGE
WATCH: BAGUIO CHRISTMAS VILLAGE:
Baguio is regarded as the Summer Capital of the Philippines, with its cold weather all throughout the year. The city is also home to tropical pine forests, lending the city the nickname City of Pines.
I was lucky to visit Baguio City this year before Christmas 2019. One of my favorite destinations here is Burnham Park a historic urban park located in downtown Baguio, Philippines.
Another list on my bucket when visiting the this City of Pines is the Mines View Park, an overlook park on the northeastern outskirts of Baguio. It is five kilometers away from the Heart of Baguio, passing through the Botanical Garden, the Strawberry Farm in La Trinidad Benguet is also a good place to go where you can see the cultivation of strawberry and you can buy fresh vegetables such as Broccoli, cauliflower. There are also many souvenirs and other products of Baguio that you can take home for “pasalubong” like Ube Jam, Strawberry Jam, the Mansion House, Wright Park, and many more.
We visited also the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, a Catholic shrine with 252 steps stairs and a place of prayer and meditation located on Mirador Hill in the western part of Baguio. Inside the grotto is a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. Lourdes Grotto is basically many visitors and crowded on weekends and during Holy Week when pilgrims and devotees come to seek the blessing of the Virgin Mary.
You can also visit the Baguio’s Haunted Diplomat Hotel, it was the Dominican Hill Retreat House, an abandoned structure atop Dominican Hill, Baguio, Philippines. It is now undergoing rehabilitation through the efforts of the city government.
And of course, the Baguio Country Club Christmas Village is much awaited every Christmas season in the celebration of the holidays where you can enjoy artificial snow rains down as you enjoy carolers’ song.
We visited also the Colorful Stobosa Hillside Houses, a community artwork designed by the Tam-Awan Village group, and is a locally recognized tourist attraction in the town of La Trinidad, Benguet. The paintwork of multiple houses composes a single artwork.
There are so many things you can do and experience in Baguio like the Panagbenga Festival which will be held annually every February, the Ifugao Woodcarvers’ Village, shopping at Ukay-Ukay and the Markets, grabbing a drink or two or more at the Baguio Craft Brewery, visiting the Bencab Museum, dropping by at Camp John Hay and the Baguio mansion and many more.
There are also plenty of restaurants in Baguio like the Good Taste Restaurant, and there are also cheap accommodations for a comfortable stay.
Baguio also serves as a tourist hub in the Cordilleras, serving as a jumping point to other tourist spots like Mount Pulag, Sagada and Banaue.

Travel Trip to Banaue Rice Terraces in Benguet Ifugao Mountain Province, Philippines
Travel trip to Banaue Rice Terraces in Benguet, Ifugao Mountain Province, Philippines
The Banaue Rice Terraces are 2,000-year-old terraces that were carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by ancestors of the indigenous people. The Rice Terraces are commonly referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World. It is commonly thought that the terraces were built with minimal equipment, largely by hand. The terraces are located approximately 1500 metres (5000 ft) above sea level. They are fed by an ancient irrigation system from the rainforests above the terraces.
Locals to this day still plant rice and vegetables on the terraces, although more and more younger Ifugaos do not find farming appealing, often opting for the more lucrative hospitality industry generated by the terraces[citation needed]. The result is the gradual erosion of the characteristic steps, which need constant reconstruction and care. In 2010, a further problem was drought, with the terraces drying up completely in March of that year.
People come here and see the beautiful scenic view.
There was a scene that I took a picture, view from the top of a restaurant. Extraordinary!
To come in this place will take a long way. You have to take a plane to Manila, Philippines. Then approx 8 hrs drive to Baguio. Then additional 8 hrs drive to Benguet. And I never forget that winding road. You will get dizzy if you’re not used to it. But it’s worth it!
They have many wood carving stores on your way.
The swimming pool was from Banaue Hotel.

Paete - Woodcarving Capital of the Philippines
Paete, located on the coast of Laguna Bay in the Philippines, was established by the Spaniards in 1580. Former Philippine President Ms. Arroyo announced in 2005 the town as the woodcarving capital of the Philippines.
In this small town of less than 30,000 people, there are many artisans engaged in the woodcarving industry. From generation to generation, the town was nurtured by the environment and took to the path of woodcarving. The 70s-80s of last century was the heyday of the Paete woodcarving. More than 90% of the town's population was engaged in the carving industry. At that time, the woodcarvings were mainly focused on religious stories. However, with the logging ban on timber leading to material shortages and rising prices, young people in this small town have had to make a wide range of choices. But some young people still stick to the mission of their fathers, devoting themselves to woodcarving. In the meantime, the Philippine Open University has planned to come up with some of the land in its Paete trial field, and work with local artisan’s guild to develop suitable tree species for use by wood carver craftsmen in the town.

The Woodcarver
In this video, a native of the province of Ifugao who now lives in pampanga, show the traditional way of carving fruit bowl with stand. The bowl and the stand are carved out of a single tree trunk. Ifugao woodcarvers are truly amazing. They do not follow any guides or illustrations art works from the smallest to life-sized sculpture. Most of their wood works are connected with their culture and everyday living.
