Foz do Iguacu: Iguazú Falls or Iguaçu Falls (Spanish: Cataratas del Iguazú [kataˈɾatas ðel iɣwaˈsu]; Guarani: Chororo Yguasu [ɕoɾoɾo ɨɣʷasu]; Portuguese: Cataratas do Iguaçu [kataˈɾatɐs du iɡwaˈsu]) are waterfalls of the Iguazu River on the border of the Argentine province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Paraná. Together, they make up the largest waterfall system in the world. The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu. The Iguazu River rises near the heart of the city of Curitiba. For most of its course, the river flows through Brazil; however, most of the falls are on the Argentine side. Below its confluence with the San Antonio River, the Iguazu River forms the boundary between Argentina and Brazil. The name Iguazú comes from the Guarani or Tupi words y [ɨ], meaning water, and ûasú [waˈsu], meaning big. Legend has it that a deity planned to marry a beautiful woman named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In a rage, the deity sliced the river, creating the waterfalls and condemning the lovers to an eternal fall. The first European to record the existence of the falls was the Spanish Conquistador Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541. [wikipedia // Google]

Iguassu Falls - Foz do Iguacu (Brazil side catwalks)
These falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil (most of the falls are on the Argentine side) are one of the widest waterfall systems in the world. They are seen by boat (you get soaked) or catwalks on the Argentine side atop the falls, or catwalks on the Brazilian side closer to the middle (or base) of the falls, where you are completely surrounded. This video shows the Brazilian catwalks during the winter (late July). It was 10am, threatening rain, and 20 degrees C (about 70 Fahrenheit). The water collecting on the camera lens is not rain, but mist from the closest waterfall.
Boat ride under Iguazu Falls/Cataratas de Iguazu, Argentina, Foz do Iguacu Brasil (Brazil)
This ten minute boat ride on the Iguazu River was a great experience. It was a bright and sunny day as we took pictures and video of the falls, then Carlos drove the boat right under the falls. Sooooo cool. No, it was not hot with my drone.

Iguazu Falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu River on the border of the Argentine province of Misiones and the Brazilian state of Paraná.
Iguazu Falls - City Video Guide
Iguazú Falls is almost 2 miles wide and is not one, but an astonishing 275 waterfalls. Eighty percent of the falls lies in Argentina and twenty percent in Brazil, which is why the falls has two names: ‘Iguazú’ in Spanish and ‘Iguaçu’ in Portuguese.
Follow the boardwalk trail through the jungle and stand on viewing platforms over the falls. Feel humbled by the power of the tumbling water mass below you. In the wet season, 450,000 cubic feet thunders over the combined falls each second!
Enjoy a more serene frontal view of the falls from the viewing points in Brazil. From here, the river seems to drape itself over the edge like a curtain.
Take a journey beneath the falls on a speedboat safari. If you’d rather stay dry, take a helicopter ride over the U-shaped series of falls to see how it forms a dramatic chasm in the earth’s surface.
Getting to Iguazú Falls is easy: there are nearby airports in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. You can even stay the night in the national park.
Though it may not be the tallest, largest or most powerful waterfall in the world, Iguazú Falls is certainly one of the most picturesque.

Panorama of the falls
There are two international airports close to Iguazú Falls: the Argentine Cataratas del Iguazú International Airport (IGR) and the Brazilian Foz do Iguaçu International Airport (IGU). Argentina's airport is 25 kilometres (16 mi) from the city of Iguazu but closer to the Falls hotels than its Brazilian counterpart. There is bus and taxi service from and to the Airport-Falls. Brazil's airport is between Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil and the falls. LAN Airlines and Aerolíneas Argentinas have direct flights from Buenos Aires to Iguazu International Airport Krause. Several Brazilian airlines, such as TAM Airlines, GOL, Azul, WebJet, offer service from the main Brazilian cities to Foz do Iguaçu.

Walkways allow close views of the falls from both Argentina and Brazil.
The falls can be reached from the two main towns on either side of the falls: Puerto Iguazú in Argentina and Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil, as well as from Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, on the other side of the Paraná river from Foz do Iguaçu. The falls are shared by the Iguazú National Park (Argentina) and Iguaçu National Park (Brazil). The two parks were designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1984 and 1987, respectively.[4]
The first proposal for a Brazilian national park aimed at providing a pristine environment to future generations, just as it had been created by God and endowed with all possible preservation, from the beautiful to the sublime, from the picturesque to the awesome and an unmatched flora located in the magnificent Iguaçú waterfalls. These were the words used by Andre Rebouças, an engineer, in his book Provinces of Paraná, Railways to Mato Grosso and Bolivia, which started up the campaign aimed at preserving the Iguaçu Falls in 1876, when Yellowstone National Park, the first national park in the world, was four years old.
