Why Shishimai Bite Children During The ShiShiMai Dance
The Shishimai dance is an old Japanese tradition that dates back several hundred years.
Shishimai serve many purposes, they ward off evil spirits, they provide health and luck to the people of the community and much much more.
Plus the Shishimai showdown dance represents the dueling nature of the male and female forces found in nature.
This particular Shishimai dance and festival is in the southern area of Japan known as Izuka.
The Shishimai perform a symbolic biting of the children to promote health and good luck.

【伝統工芸:笠間焼き】Kasama-yaki
Japanese traditional crafts “KASAMA-YAKI”
Hello, I’m Chiaki Tanaka.
Today I’m in Kasama city in Ibaraki Prefecture, where it is 2 hours away from Tokyo.
Today I will introduce one of the greatest Japanese traditional crafts “KASAMA-YAKI”
============================================
What is “KASAMA-YAKI??”
KASAMA-YAKI is Japanese ceramics which is made in Kasama city, Ibaraki Prefecture.
KASAMA inari shrine is the one of the Japanese top three inari shrines and KASAMA-YAKI has been treated as worship souvenir from long ago.
What is the KASAMA-YAKI’s Characteristic is KASAMA-YAKI is made of clay which is sticky, durable and the particles are fine. It is called ‘Gairo-nendo”.
KASAMA-YAKI is durable and stain-resistant, also often used as everyday use offering tray including Kitchenware like water jar (in Japanese Mizu-game) and teapot (Cha-tsubo).
‘Gairo-nendo’ contains a lot of iron and its base color turns brown after baking so Gairo-nendo’ is good for using as glaze like dripping and overwriting more than neat painting style.
KASAMA-YAKI has various decoration techniques. In additional to this, KASAMA area is good production region and natural features.
Also Ceramic artists can express their personality freely because there is no need to follow the traditional rules and formality. This is also why KASAMA-YAKI is attractive.
Nowadays, KASAMA-YAKI is also often used for flower vase, interior goods and objet d’ art. Ceramic artists have been preserving the tradition since the time of Edo era till today and maintain high quality of this crafts.

I think the services in Japan called “omotenashi” is only natural for us born and raised and live in Japan.
I would like to spread this Japanese sprits “omotenashi” to the world with “Japanese traditional crafts” and “services”.
I’m very interested in the world and went to USA, Israel, Mexico inspired how could I do for Japan and other countries.
This project is the first step for me.
I do feel that people lost the heart to think “love” in this generation occupied social net work.
There were merchants in “Omi” called “Omi shonin”(Omi merchants” played active around Japan in the Middle Ages. They said “Business will be ‘Sanpo Yoshi”. It means ‘Benefit for all the sides.Purchaser, Buyer, Society. I think this is right.
People increased that become violent by words, because people forget to love other people.
I think there are too much things in the world now a days,
I met so many engineer in the world and they say “There are no more new thing will be born.”.
Maybe we need to be back to the origin.
“Human made the gap between the rich people and poor people.
Why can we exist? Because there are an earth and nature.
I think we need to thank to the natures and think how can we do for that.
What we are required is to get back human spirits and hearts in the world surrounded by desires.
I want this new project will be a good stimulus for you.
I will tell you about the spirits from Japanese traditional crafts. That is the origin of services.
