Hiking Meads Quarry & The Keyhole (Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness )
Jerry and I did some hiking after work in our hometown of Knoxville. We hiked in Knoxville's Urban Wilderness on the Tharp Trace trail which goes around Meads Quarry and also on Imry trail to The Keyhole and back. It was a beautiful afternoon for a quick hike with some very interesting history and features. There is even a cemetery nearby Ijams Nature Center. I love being so close to hiking trails and I should've been hiking these sooner! Going to start trying to make this a more frequent thing when the weather permits!

Dirty South Loop MTB Knoxville
I started the day at Meads Quarry and rode out the greenway to the end and hit the trail. Started out on the Bluff trail.
Today I'm riding the South Loop also called Dirty South Loop here near downtown Knoxville, TN.
here's a map:
Came to a road and saw the markings of the trail location. This trail is called the Lost Chromosone. At that intersection I could have went straight and ended up on the Private Land Easement and home of trails like ACDC or Chain Ring.
I proceeded on the course of the South Loop and came out at the Anderson School. again the markings are very well leading to the next trail.
This area is called the Hastie Natural Area. Here is where the South Loop trail signs disappear. Often I was unsure if I was on the correct trail. I did reference my map many times. Regardless i came to the intersection of Margaret Road and I took a left there, maybe I should have taken a right idk.
I ended up at a parking lot, should have turned around but instead I GPS'd my location and rode the streets to the next trail a little over a mile. ( I wasn't the only one who's done this I saw plenty of bicycle tire tracks).
The next trail was probably my favorite of the entire day. At this point I entered Marie Myers park. I stopped for a short break and took off on down the flow trail. This part was so nice and fast.
At the end I crossed a road and the trail was on the left. This area is the Ross Marble Quarry. I could have taken Turnbuckle as a short cut back to the truck but i stayed on the South Loop. Once at the top of the mountain there was a couple of miles of nice smooth downhill flow. I ended the day by riding the Flow Trail back to the parking lot.
My GoPro died just minutes before reaching the Flow Trail. (I didn't fully charge the camera before I left).
At the short break just after Anderson School I paused my Strava and forgot to restart it. so all the time and mileage I didn't get to record.
Even though i got lost once it wasn't bad and I wasn't off track for very long.
Over all this was a damn fun day!!!!! I will definitely ride this again and again.

Places to see in ( Knoxville - USA )
Places to see in ( Knoxville - USA )
Knoxville is a city on the Tennessee River in eastern Tennessee. Downtown, the Market Square district has 19th-century buildings with shops and restaurants. The Museum of East Tennessee History has interactive exhibits plus regional art, textiles and Civil War artifacts. James White’s Fort, built by the Revolutionary War captain, includes the reconstructed 1786 log cabin that was Knoxville’s first permanent building.
Knoxville is in Eastern Tennessee, United States. It is the third-largest city in the state. It is the home of the University of Tennessee's primary campus (UTK) and site of the 1982 World's Fair. Knoxville is on the Tennessee River about an hour from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Once called the 'scruffy little city', the downtown is undergoing a rapid renaissance as young people move into the lofts and apartments created from the factories and warehouses of another era. On any evening of the week, throngs of residents and visitors can be seen at the sidewalk cafes, theaters, restaurants and night clubs along Gay Street and Market Square. The University of Tennessee, with its 27,000 students, is within walking distance of the downtown, separated only by the World's Fair Park.
One can still see remnants of the 1982 World's Fair in the Sunsphere, a rising structure topped with a gold sphere which dots Knoxville's skyline, however, most of the other structures from the Fair were removed to create a large city park which attracts families, students, and artists on weekends and sunny days. The World's Fair brought a lot of attention and development to the city, including high-rise office structures, and the four-star Hilton, Crowne Plaza and Marriott hotels.
Knoxville is home to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, but the city seems dominated by the University of Tennessee Volunteers (men only) and Lady Volunteers athletics. The basketball teams play in the 21,000+ seat Thompson Boling Arena, and the nationally recognized football team plays in Neyland Stadium, one of the largest on-campus stadiums in the world at 103,000 seating capacity. During the fall you will find plenty of orange in the foliage, but you will see Big Orange year round with the people of Knoxville.
Dubbed a 'scruffy little city' by the Wall Street Journal before the 1982 World's Fair, Knoxville is strutting its stuff these days as an increasingly prominent and well-polished destination for outdoor, gastronomy and craft-beer enthusiasts. Knoxville is also home to the University of Tennessee and its rabid college-football fan base. On game days the whole town is painted orange as fans pack Neyland Stadium to watch the beloved Volunteers. But there's more to Knoxville than football. No longer content to play second fiddle to nearby Chattanooga and Asheville, the city – a former textiles production center – now touts itself as a base camp for visitors to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Sugarlands Visitor Center is just 29 miles away, and Knoxville is a far more enticing spot to eat and drink than other cities near the park. For hikers and mountain bikers, the city's ever-expanding Urban Wilderness is becoming its own reason to visit.

Helicopter Flight over Knoxville, TN
This is an HD video of my flight over West Knoxville/The University of Tennessee campus in my friend's Robinson R22. I shot it using my GoPro Hero 2 + Wifi Bacpack. We flew over Neyland Stadium, Thompson-Boling arena, West Town Mall, The construction site for the new National Fitness Center, as well as Mortgage Investors Group and many other places. The best part is at the 14:05 mark where we did a low hover about 5' from the ground. Let me know what you think and hopefully there will be more to come.
