Castellina in Chianti is a comune of c. 2,800 inhabitants in the province of Siena, in the Italian region Tuscany, located about 35 kilometres south of Florence and about 15 kilometres northwest of Siena. It is part of the Chianti Hills, between the valleys of the Arbia, Pesa and Elsa rivers.

The Tenuta di Ricavo is unique and a charming hotel in the town of Castellina in Chianti. It is not a hotel at all in the usual connotation, but rather a tiny, very old, Tuscan hamlet with peasants' cottages that have been transformed into delightful guestrooms. Unlike many of the over-renovated hotels in Tuscany where most of what you see is actually new construction, Ricavo is all real.
