L'île aux Aigrettes est un passage obligé pour tout amoureux de la nature.Située au sud-est de Maurice, cette petite île de 26 hectares a été déclaréeréserve naturelle en 1965 et est gérée par la Mauritian Wildlife Foundation. Cette dernière vise principalement à recréer l'île à son état sauvage avant l'arrivée des premiers colonisateurs. L'île aux Aigrettes est un refuge pourdes oiseaux rares comme le pigeon des mares et l'oiseau à lunette ainsi quede nombreuses plantes endémiques.

MWF - Ile aux Aigrettes
Ile aux Aigrettes is a small (27 ha) island situated in the Mahebourg Bay, about 850 m off the south-east coast of Mauritius. Unlike the mainland which is of volcanic origin, Ile aux Aigrettes is made up of coralline limestone. It is home to the last remnants of dry coastal forest, once found around most of Mauritius.
Like the mainland, Ile aux Aigrettes was affected by tree logging and land clearance, and the introduction of exotic animal and plant species almost destroyed the native fauna and flora. In 1965 the island was declared a nature reserve and our intense conservation efforts have resulted in the restoration of the forest and reintroduction of rare species that had long since disappeared from the island.

Ile aux Aigrettes is an islet off the south-east coast of Mauritius. It functions as a nature reserve and a scientific research station. It is also a popular visitor’s attraction - both for tourists and for Mauritians.
Free from human presence for a long time, Ile aux Aigrettes became a natural museum with a remarkable collection of endemic species of Mauritian fauna and flora. However, the arrival of man on the islet in the early 1600s disturbed and almost totally destroyed this island ecosystem, with logging and land clearance as well as the introduction of exotic plant and animal species. In fact, tree felling, particularly of ebony, continued even after the island was first declared a nature reserve, in 1965.

Ile Aux Aigrettes (IAA) is a small island located off the east coast of Mauritius. It's a nature reserve conserving endemic bird and reptile species including skinks, pink pigeon and olive white eyes.
I got the opportunity as part of my post graduate diploma course to work on IAA for a week where i took part in predator surveying, predator control, disease screening, bird ringing, bird consumption analysis and horticulture.
Here is a short glimpse of my week.

Mauritius: Ile Aux Aigrettes, day 3 Vlog PGDip
Ile Aux Aigrettes is an awesome little island in Mauritius, and home to captive Fruit Bats, captive and wild Skinks, and of course the Giant Tortoise.
It's day 3 here in Mauritius, the weather is stunning at 30-35degrees C and I'm beginning to learn about the local wildlife! Including how painful the wasps stings are!
