Illawarra Historical Society and Museum
The Illawarra Museum is home to the Illawarra Historical Society, as well as, an extensive collection of historical objects and artifacts.Located in the heart of Market Square, the museum serves as a reminder of both Wollongong's past and progression. Member of the Illawarra Historical Society and museum manager, John Shipp discusses the cultural significance of the museum and the imperative need to preserve Wollongong's history with Taylah Jones.
Qantas 747 coming to HARS Wollongong Illawarra
On the 15th of February, Arjun and I visited the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society at Wollongong/Illawarra Regional Airport, at Albion Park NSW.
During our visit, Terry Scanlan talked to us about the pending arrival of a new HARS aircraft... Qantas Boeing 747-400 VH-OJA due to occur at 7:47am on the 8th of March 2015.

In 2015 and 2016 we held a series of events called 'Illawarra 200' to commemorate 200 years since some of the Illawarra's custodians led some European settlers and their cattle down the escarpment. This clip shows some of the moments in our region's history over the past 200 years.
Qantas 747 Landing at Wollongong Airport (VH-OJA)
A Qantas jumbo jet has made history, landing at a regional airport in New South Wales to become the first 747-400 in the world to go on public display.
The City of Canberra was retired to Wollongong after 25 years of service and will become a prized addition to an aviation museum based at Illawarra Regional Airport.
Qantas is gifting VH-OJA City of Canberra, which flew non-stop from London to Sydney for its delivery flight in 1989, to HARS (the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society) to go on display at Illawarra Regional Airport near Wollongong.
The flight number was QF7474 and the arrival time was 7:47am.

This footage shows the departure of the Genairco biplane from Mascot airport, Sydney, and cuts to aerial views of the northern suburbs from Thirroul south, then Wollongong, Tom Thumbs Lagoon, Port Kembla, Shellharbour and Kiama.
The Genairco Moth VH-UUI (now registered as N240G), a Cabin Biplane, was exported from Australia in 1966 and is awaiting restoration by the Fantasy of Flight museum at Polk City, Florida. - Wikipedia

6029 climbing the Illawarra Escarpment
On the 13th of November 2016, 6029 made history as it was the very first Garratt locomotive to climb the whole of the Illawarra escarpment as part of the transfer of the ARHS ACT train from Wollongong back to Canberra after running a weekend of shuttles in the Wollongong area.
