Illimani 6452m - Bolivia 2013
The final and highest climb of our 2013 Bolivia Expedition, Illimani at 6452m. A steep, high and beautiful mountain and a great climax to our trip. Numerous Condor sightings along the way amongst the stunning scenery made the cold nights, hard days and 2500m of ascent worthwhile. From the road end about 450m of climb took us up to a fantastically positioned Base Camp. The next day 1000m of ascent up a steep narrow rocky ridge took us to High Camp at around 5500m on the edge of the snowline. The summit day climb of 1000m started at 2am and was generally on steeper slopes than other climbs on this trip, up to around 55 degrees.

An ascent via the normal route over 2 days: 10-11 August 2013.
Day 1: Taxi from La Paz to Pinaya, trek to Base Camp, climb to High Camp.
Day 2: Summit, descend to Pinaya.

Let's climb Illimani - 6450 m - Bolivia 4K
While backpacking in Bolivia, I decided to climb a cheap summit. Huayna Potosi seemed easy and too touristic. So I decided to try Illimani with a guide. But the first night, our guide asked us to go to the village nearby to meet his friends and family. He got drunk and didn't come back. We decided to keep going on our own.
I was shooting with a Gopro 5 and a Karma grip.
