The University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign (also known as U of I, Illinois, or colloquially as the University of Illinois or UIUC) is a public research university in Illinois and the flagship institution of the University of Illinois system. Founded in 1867 as a land-grant institution, its campus is located in the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana.
The University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign is a member of the Association of American Universities and is classified as a R1 Doctoral Research University under the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, which denotes the highest research activity. In fiscal year 2017, research expenditures at Illinois totaled $642 million. The campus library system possesses the second-largest university library in the United States by holdings after Harvard University. The university also hosts the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) and is home to the fastest supercomputer on a university campus.
The university contains 16 schools and colleges and offers more than 150 undergraduate and over 100 graduate programs of study. The university holds 651 buildings on 6,370 acres (2,578 ha) and its annual operating budget in 2016 was over $2 billion. The University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign also operates a Research Park home to innovation centers for over 90 start-up companies and multinational corporations, including Abbott, AbbVie, Caterpillar, Capital One, Dow, State Farm, and Yahoo, among others.

Champaign is a city in Champaign County, Illinois, United States. The city is located 135 miles south of Chicago, 124 miles west of Indianapolis, Indiana, and 178 mi northeast of St. Louis, Missouri. Champaign is notable for sharing the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with its sister city of Urbana. Champaign is also the home of Parkland College which serves about 18,000 students during the academic year. Due to the university and a number of well known technology startup companies, it is often referred to as the hub, or a significant landmark, of the Silicon Prairie. NS at Cerro Gordo, IL 2003
A long NS eastbound auto train led by a wide open C40-9W passes though Cerro Gordo, Illinois on the ex-Wabash Automotive Artery. Until 1961, the Illinois Terminal Railroad ran down the middle of the street out of view to my right. They then tore up their own tracks between Decatur and Champaign and took trackage rights on the Wabash.
Americans for Prosperity Launch a Cut Spending Now Campaign
Americans for Prosperity launched their grassroots Cut Spending Now campaign in Champaign on March 17, 2011. The purpose of this campaign is to support Congressman Tim Johnson in his stand against special interest lobbies in Washington who want to increase the size of a government already $14 trillion in debt.
Joe Calomino, the lllinois State Director of Americans for Prosperity, John Bambenek, a policy advisor for For the Good of Illinois, Carol Ann Parisi, the State Director of the Patriotic Action Network, and John O'Hara, Vice President of External Relations for the Illinois Policy Institute spoke on the fourth floor of the Illinois Terminal.
Citizens in the 15th Congressional District are encouraged to join the Cut Spending Now campaign by signing the petition at CutSpendingNow.org, and contacting Tim Johnson.

TRIP REPORT | Amtrak City of New Orleans | Chicago to Champaign | Coach Class Experience!
Welcome to my 27th trip report, the second of two onboard Amtrak. This one is long overdue and I apologize but I hope it's worth it! I enjoyed both trips on Amtrak, their coach class is amazing and would love to take it again! I hope you enjoy the video and please watch in 1080p60 for best quality.
NOTE: This train runs from Chicago, IL to New Orleans, LA which is a 19 hour journey total. I only rode it for the first two hours from Chicago to Champaign.
