Φαράγγι Ίμπρου - Imbros Gorge, Crete in 4k
Το φαράγγι της Ίμβρου στα Σφακιά είναι ένα από τα βαθύτερα και πιο στενά φαράγγια της Κρήτης. ξεκινάει λίγο νοτιότερα από το χωριό Ίμβρος στο οροπέδιο Ασκύφου, για να καταλήξει μετά από περίπου 5 χιλιόμετρα στο χωριό Κομιτάδες κοντά στην παραλία του Φραγκοκάστελλου.
Τα τοιχώματά του ορθώνονται κάθετα σε ύψος 300 μέτρων ενώ το πλάτος του σε ορισμένα σημεία δεν ξεπερνά τα 2 μέτρα. Η διάβασή του είναι σχετικά εύκολη, μπορεί να γίνει σχεδόν όλο το χρόνο και απαιτεί περίπου 3 ώρες πεζοπορίας μέχρι τους Κομιτάδες.
Ενώ στην αρχή της διαδρομής το τοπίο είναι γυμνό, σταδιακά και όσο τα τοιχώματα του φαραγγιού ψηλώνουν, το τοπίο αλλάζει και γίνεται ολοένα και πιο εντυπωσιακό. Βελανιδιές και πικροδάφνες φυτρώνουν στις σχισμές των βράχων ενώ λίγο χαμηλότερα η κοίτη του γίνεται δασωμένη, γεμάτη με μεγάλα πεύκα, βελανιδιές και πλατάνια.
Κοντά στη μέση του φαραγγιού το σκηνικό αλλάζει και πάλι. Τα τοιχώματά του πλησιάζουν πολύ μεταξύ τους (2-3 μέτρα) δίνοντας την εντύπωση πως πρόκειται για κάποια φυσική σήραγγα. Από το σημείο αυτό και για αρκετά μέτρα το τοπίο είναι ιδιαίτερα επιβλητικό. Προς την έξοδό του το φαράγγι αρχίζει να ημερεύει, για να καταλήξει στο χείμαρρο δίπλα στο χωριό Κομιτάδες.
The gorge of Imbros, in the area of Sfakia, is one of the deepest and narrowest gorges of Crete. It begins a little to the south of Imbros village, on Askifou plateau, and ends up after approximately 5 kilometres, at the village of Komitades, near the beach of Frangokastello.
Its walls rise vertically 300 metres high and its width does not exceed 2 metres at places. The walk down the gorge is fairly easy; it can be done almost throughout the year and requires approximately 3 hours, as far as the village of Komitades.
At the beginning of the walk the scenery is bare. However, as the walls of the gorge grow taller, it becomes more and more impressive. Oaks and oleanders grow in the cracks on the walls, while the stream bed is thick with tall pines, oaks and plane trees.
Towards the middle of the route the scenery changes again. The walls close in on each other (they are only 2-3 metres apart), giving the impression of a natural tunnel. From this point downwards, for a certain distance, the landscape is exceptionally imposing. Towards the outlet it becomes tamer, and the gorge ends up at a stream next to Komitades village.

2011 Imbros gorge Kreta
Wij hebben deze reis geboekt bij
Deze kloof ligt aan de oost zijde van het Lefka Ori gebergte, de streek in west Kreta waar ook de beroemde Samaria kloof te vinden is. Deze kloof is gesloten van November tot Mei vanwege veiligheids redenen. Daarom is de Imbros kloof een zeer goed alternatief en misschien ontdekt U wel dat deze beter is dan zijn beroemde broer. Wij starten met een busreis van uw hotel of appartement naar het dorpje Imbros dat is gelegen op 600 meter hoogte. Hier vinden wij de ingang van de kloof die het gehele jaar is geopend. De wandeling is niet moeilijk en in het voorjaar zult U genieten van de bloeiende bloemen en de geur van alle kruiden. Herders voeren hun schapen door de kloof, omdat dit hun verbinding is van de bergen naar de zuidelijke kuststreken, dus schrikt U niet van al deze levende wezens. 4 Fantastische smalle doorgangen zult U passeren en een mooie natuurlijke tunnel kunt U aanschouwen. Uw gids zal U verhalen vertellen over de kloof en U wijzen op de bloemen en kruiden wereld. Wij besluiten onze toer in het dorpje Chora Sfakia waar in de 2e wereldoorlog de laatste engelse soldaten Kreta moesten verlaten. Na de lunch zal de bus ons weer thuis brengen. De wandeling is 8 Km. Duurt ca.2-3 uur en goede wandelschoenen zijn noodzakelijk

Całkowita długość szlaku wiodącego przez wąwóz Imbros wynosi około 8 kilometrów, w czasie których pokonana różnica wysokości wynosi mniej więcej 600m. Zorganizowanie wyjazdu do wąwozu nie jest zbyt trudne ani nie wymaga zbyt skomplikowanego planowania. Jeśli dysponujesz wypożyczonym samochodem to na pewno możesz zrezygnować z wykupywania wycieczki sprzedawanej przez lokalne biura podróży.

This is one of the most beautiful small gorges of Eastern Crete and it has a marked route. It follows the stream which flows all year round, creating a splendid waterfall.
The gorge begins a little outside the village of Exo Mouliana and ends up at the beach of Rikhtis, east of Kalavros village.
The total length of the route is approximately 3 kilometres and the elevation difference between the entrance and the outlet is about 350 metres.

Imbros Gorge
The Imbros gorge is in the South West of Crete. It is not hard to go through it. We saw families walking there. It took all together about 4 or 5 hours for the walk. In comparison with other gorges this one was not very spectacular and not very special and beautiful. But there were some nice parts. Beautiful passages between the rocks. And we also saw a lot of butterflies. We walked along some century old paths. In earlier days the local people walked over it with donkeys to carry their load. For entering the gorge we had to pay 2 euro's per person.

Walking on the island of Crete in springtime is a magical experience. It’s not just the warm sunshine and blue skies but also the friendly people that go to make a visit at any time of year special.
The bus from Chania stops at the little village of Imbros high on the plateau of the White Mountains and from there starts the Imbros Gorge walk. The track is easy and the descent not too steep in this wooded gorge full of wild flowers.
