The 19th century Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Renaissance domes, twin spires and Gothic arches soar above you in this beautiful and spiritual space, originally completed in 1899. Two towers rise into the sky, and a bright yellow European-style dome is a picture-perfect feature of this Gothic and Moorish inspired landmark.

Expert cliff divers plunge fearlessly from a nearly 50-foot platform into a scant six feet of water from atop a rocky cliff, timing their dives with the incoming waves. The tradition of cliff diving in Mazatlan dates back to the mid-1900s, when the platform that is still in use was built.

Cruising to Mexico is a lot of fun. Mazatlan was one of our destinations. I was amazed by the quite tame Pigeons congregating in front of the old Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, built between 1855 and 1880.
