Centuries-old family tombs excavated in northeast China

Archaeologists unearthed 460 artifacts while excavating 38 tombs belonging to a family that lived during the Qing Dynasty (1616-1911). All of the tombs were discovered in a construction site in Shuijia Village in Shenyang City's Hunnan District. The discovery of these graves is highly valuable to the study of family continuity and burial customs, as well as site selection and layout of family cemeteries around the city.

Chinese artist creates incredibly detailed cloisonne image on phone case

An artist created an incredibly detailed cloisonne image on a phone case in southern China's Guangzhou City.
The impressive footage shows the man sticking down gold wires on the edge of the pattern and then filling the colorful glazes into the gaps. Cloisonne is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects, which had spread to China by the 14th century and still remains common. Beijing cloisonne has been listed in the country's national intangible cultural heritage.

新華社》新華社電２９日，記者從上海京劇院舉行的發布會上獲悉，京劇電影《霸王別姬》已完成全劇分鏡頭劇本，將於７月３日開拍。在高清影片拍攝的同時，還將套拍一部３Ｄ版的《霸王別姬》，使之成為中國第一部３Ｄ戲曲影片。
記者在發布會現場看到，該影片的舞美方案已經確立，為配合高清拍攝，攝製組為影片中的項羽和虞姬製作了華美雍容的戲服。出演項羽和虞姬的，分別是著名京劇表演名家尚長榮和梅派青衣名家史依弘。
京劇電影《霸王別姬》導演滕俊傑告訴記者，此番拍攝將突齣戲曲傳統，高清特色，以３Ｄ技術的立體感、層次感，和對視覺的新呈現，吸引年輕人進入影院，在他們心中再一次地植入中國京劇的元素。
京劇電影《霸王別姬》將於７月３日在上海車墩影視基地開機拍攝，預計在國慶節後舉行首映式。而３Ｄ版京劇電影《霸王別姬》拍攝完成後也有望進入院線放映。

Feng Shan Xu - A Life in Kunqu [HD] - Into The Music, ABC Radio National

Feng Shan Xu (Xu as he's known to friends), has lived in Macquarie Fields in south-west Sydney since 1997, but most mornings after sipping coffee at the local shopping centre Xu goes home to practise arias from an ancient form of Chinese Opera.

He's deemed a National Living Treasure in China, a performer in the last generation of truly great Kunqu practitioners, and in 2011 the Northern Kunqu Opera Theatre in Beijing invited Xu to perform in a festival celebrating UNESCO's designation of Kunqu as a masterpiece of intangible cultural heritage.

After enduring humiliation as an artist during the Cultural Revolution, once again Xu was able to share his art form with fans and students eager to recall and enjoy China's precious cultural history.

Video artist Kate Murphy created a multi-channel video installation in collaboration with Xu Feng Shan, commissioned by Campbelltown Arts Centre. The video shown here is a single channel excerpt of the original installation, produced for ABC Radio National.

A Stroll in the Garden is a scene from The Peony Pavilion (1598). The Peony Pavilion is also known as The Return of the Soul, is written by the prominent playwright Xianzu Tang (1550-1616), a play included in his four dream plays and long regarded as a masterpiece of Chinese literature and kunqu.

On May 31st, a fire suddenly broke out at a national granary
of China Grain Reserves Corporation (Sino grain).
78 grain silos were on fire. According to Chinese media,
the fire was not put out until 9am on June 1st.
The economic loss is preliminarily estimated to be
around 100 million Yuan.

Just five days prior to the fire, the First Central-level Party
Inspection Team was stationed at the headquarters of Sino
grain for supervision work.
Although it was officially announced that
the cause of the fire is still under investigation,
a large number of netizens have sharply questioned
the real cause of the accident.

Some wrote: Why did the fire accompany the arrival
of the inspection team?
I have long been aware that the problem inside Sino grain
is extremely serious.

Another netizen made an analysis of the accident, saying
The grain is not flammable and cannot spontaneously combust.
In addition, the fire should not easily spread. So even if a fire
breaks out it should be easy to put out as it takes time to spread.
How can the fire involve 78 silos at the same time and
become so difficult to put out?

Some also said; The grain was burned exactly at the
arrival of the inspection team. Not before nor after.
This indicates absolute unruliness of the officials.

If the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) fails to
offer us a satisfying explanation,
I believe the Chinese people will make their own
response to the government!

The Chinese state-owned grain corporations have been
known to make fake storage reports for a long time.
Sometimes the silos are even kept empty,
which is a violation of the law.
In the past, there were reports of grain corruption almost
yearly, indicating the serious corruption within Sino grain.

Chinese Netizens Question If Sending Central Level
Anti-Graft Teams Will Work

Chinese netizens seriously doubt the efficacy of the anti-graft
work by four official central-level inspection teams.

Some netizen remarked that imperial envoys
could loose immunity to interferences either by
being threatened by a tiger
or being corrupted by flies.

Another netizen wrote that, China had a long history of
sending imperial envoys.
However, could this really solve the problem? If it did, then
there would have been less changes of dynasties in our history.

Hong Kong Students Carry Out 64-Hour hunger Assembly
To Commemorate The June Fourth Incident

Thirty members of Hong Kong Federation of Students,
the biggest student organization in Hong Kong,
started a hunger assembly at the Times Square of
Tongluowan from the afternoon of June 1st.
The event will last 64 hours till 8:45am, June 4th,
which signifies the incident happened on June 4th in 1989.
The students hope to call for public awareness of
the historical truth of the incident by doing this.

The members are from different universities in Hong Kong.

On the spot they have prepared the statue of
the Goddess of Democracy.
They are displaying boards about Hunan democrat Li Wangyang
who it was falsely claimed committed suicide.
They are distributing flyers about June Fourth Incident to
passengers, especially to those from Mainland China.
They also write down their appeals on the ground,
such as rehabilitate victims of June Fourth Incident
and Terminate the Chinese Communist Party's dictatorship.

According to a VOA report, a new attendee of
the hunger assembly said that
although he was not even born when the slaughter
at Tiananmen Square happened,
the truth of incident would never be covered up.

【色之諧】展覽的緣起是計劃在藝術糧倉給閆平女士和周剛先生辦一個有意思的展覽，閆平女士的作品強烈而率性，她繪畫的純粹在業內有目共睹，也是我內心一直嚮往的色彩世界。而我與周剛先生十多年的交往，彼此都認為是一種遇事可以託付的情份，當然他對繪畫的摯愛和激情我也可以深深懂得。不論是出於藝術糧倉的定位，還是出於我個人的本心，抑或從繪畫純粹出發，我也極願意做這個展覽。
如今藝術糧倉處在一個重要的節點，在學術不再是學術的時候，東、西方的藝術該何去何從? 這個展覽，我們將它命名為色之諧。當然，色之諧，還僅僅是開始。
Foreword
「Harmony of colors」 The original intention for this exhibition is to give Ms. Yan Ping and Mr. Zhou Gang an interesting sketch exhibition in the Art Granary, and The work of Ms. Yan is so strong
in emotion, and full of frank, so pure that already recognized obvious to all in the industry, describing and a colorful world I've always longed in my heart. Besides, I have a ten-year relationship
with Mr. Zhou, and entrusted to each other so much that, of course, his love and passion for painting can be well understood. So whether it's out of Art Granary, or for my own heart, or from the
purity of painting, I'd like to do this.
Now, the Art Granary is at an important node, and when the 「academic」 is no longer academic, what course should the art of the East and the West to follow? We named the exhibition as 「Harmony of
colors」. Of course, the harmony of colors is just the beginning.
