Being fit and healthy is a crucial part of being a prosperous Namibian, Miss Namibia 2015 Steffi van Wyk spent the day training the new finalists at the Independence Stadium recently.
Namibia celebrates 29 years of Independence
This year’s independence celebration in Windhoek on 21 March was poorly attended compared to celebrations held in previous years. However, City of Windhoek buses picked people up from all over the city to transport them to and from the stadium throughout the day.
The Ndilimani Cultural Troupe played in the guests of honour, who included founding president Sam Nujoma, Vice president Tangelo Mbumba and Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta as a special guest.
Military paratroopers made a swooping entrance into the stadium from the sky, carrying with them the flag of the nation and various branches of the military, namely the army (in brown), the navy (in white), the air force (in blue) and the NDF band (in red), paraded around the stadium.
President Hage Geingob arrived at the stadium with a military escort. The president went around on the track waving to the crowds from the ‘bakkie’ he was perched.
Part of his speech said that those who continuously criticise the government for organising independence celebrations are not grateful. He said those who hold the view that “there is nothing to celebrate” have not experienced the troubled times the country went through during the liberation struggle.

Namibia marks 27 years of independence
Tuesday Namibia marked 27 years of independence. The main celebrations took place in Rundu, around 7 hundred kilometres from the capital, Windhoek. President Hage Geingob addressed the crowds. He said Namibia still faces challenges stemming from socio-economic structures and enduring poverty. He added that his government will continue with its relief plans to address those inequalities. He's announced an increase in social pension allowances. Namibia gained independence from South Africa in 1990.

Well this video was not planned I just happened to visit the Independence Stadium in Windhoek and see what is happening there. I have seen some interesting activities and simply decided to film with my cellphone. The wind was strong as you can hear from the audio, my apology I did not have a wind shield prepared but at least you can see what was happening there. Kashindi Ausiku
