Indian Battle Park & Helen Schular Trail Timelapse | Lethbridge, Alberta
Located along the Old Man River in the center of Lethbridge, Alberta is Indian Battle Park and the Helen Schular Nature Reserve. This technical route ignores most of the paved paths throughout these parks, and instead prefers to take seasonal off road trails ideal for more experienced runners.
Caution should be taken while traversing the river side trails, as some of the paths along the bank are susceptible to being undercut by the current and are known to collapse into the river itself.
Past the iconic Lethbridge Viaduct rail bridge, the path takes a sharp turn to the river itself, and actually follows the riverbed which can be run on during most of the summer months. Looping back into the park, this route continues to ignore paved pathways in favor of offbeat trails that cut through the middle of the forested area of the park.
The return trip follows part of the Oxbow loop in Helen Schular's Nature Quest trail network. This area was under construction during shooting, and is now a paved asphalt pathway for the main loop. This area is a great way to encounter wild deer during dusk hours almost year round. The final destination of the trail loops back to the easily accessible parking area, which is also one of the two end points for the 30km long city wide Coalbanks Trail.
