FairTrain 1983 - Indiana Transportation Museum
In 1983, the Indiana Transportation Museum did something that no other State, Railroad, or Museum had done, or has done since; ITM operated a train out of Carmel Indiana to the Indiana State Fairgrounds near downtown Indianapolis.
The video shows the excitement of this new endeavor as well as the speeches made by Carmel Mayor Jane Reiman, Indiana Governor Robert Orr, Indiana Lieutenant Governor John Mutz, and Indianapolis Mayor William Hudnut (among others) welcoming the new FairTrain. About 18 minutes into the video, we see passengers board the train for the first trip to the Indiana State Fair.
The FairTrain, a commuter train service provided by the Indiana Transportation Museum operated from 1983 until 2015, initially providing departures from Carmel and later from Fishers to the Indiana State Fairgrounds. This was a very successful service, and in some years ITM's FairTrain carried more passengers in the two weeks it operated than Amtrak's Hoosier State carried (from Indianapolis to Chicago) all year.
The video was shot and edited by long time Indiana Transportation Museum volunteer, Bob Blome. The video is copyrighted by Bob Blome and provided to the Indiana Transportation Museum for the express purpose of exhibition on the YouTube website. As a new videographer, Bob was not experienced with the functions of his new video camera, thus the video has a pinkish tint at times. The Indiana Transportation Museum is grateful of Bob's efforts to record and preserve the history of the museum. Thank you Bob!

The Heritage Railway (NKP) Before & During Removal - Noblesville, Fishers, and Indianapolis, Indiana
The same railroad before rails were pulled in Fishers, November of 2018:
This video shows some scenes from the Heritage Railway, owned by the Hoosier Heritage Port Authority (the cities of Noblesville and Fishers and Hamilton County), as it's being removed for a trail. These are former Norfolk Southern, Norfolk and Western, and Nickel Plate tracks that ran between Michigan City, Indiana and Indianapolis, Indiana. The last train went through in 2015 which was ran by the Indiana Transportation Museum. This line has been left unused since. With the cities wanting to develop the right-of-way for a greenway trail, this line was finally abandoned and sold to A&K Railroad Materials of Utah for removal. Tracks will be removed from downtown Noblesville, through Fishers, and down through Indianapolis to 38th Street. This footage was taken on August 28, 2019.

FairTrain 1996 - Indiana Transportation Museum
The Indiana Transportation Museum continued the operation of their FairTrain between Fishers and the Indiana State Fair Grounds in what had become a tradition for the 1996 Indiana State Fair.
The video shows the train along its journey from Fishers to the State Fair Grounds and back to Fishers. The video features the train passing scenic locations on its trip as well as shots from onboard the train. This year's video debuts a train station built by the Town of Fishers for the use of the Indiana Transportation Museum's excursions - including footage shot from a helicopter as the train departs Fishers Station. The private car, Indianapolis 500 returns to the FairTrain for some of the trips.

Indiana State Fair Train HD Cab Ride ITMZ #200
I GOT A CAB RIDE ON THE ITMZ #200!!!!!
Indiana Transportation Museum Fair Train
Yes. I am in Indianapolis right now. I'm here for a family reunion. I caught this train that came from the Indiana Transportation Museum (where they have NKP 587) and it's here to take people to the Indiana State Fair (August 1st-I think the 16th). There were some rather interesting locomotives on this train. It was a push pull set. After I stop filming as the train pulled in, some ITM employee who was on the train started talking with me. He found out that I like trains, because he saw me filming it. He had some interesting facts, like how the first coach was a business car and that most of the other cars were ex-ATSF (which I actually figured they were since they were silver). I actually got lucky with this train. It arrived shortly after I got there. If I had got there later, I would have had to wait another hour and a half for the next one. And I'm not sure if it had the same locomotives or not. Enjoy!
