FLUORIDEGATE An American Tragedy - a David Kennedy film
FLUORIDEGATE AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY (1:05:05)
A DOCUMENTARY FILM. By Dr. David Kennedy
WWW.FLUORIDEGATE.ORG
FLUORIDEGATE the movie is a new documentary film that reveals the tragedy of how the United States government, industry, and trade associations protect and promote a policy known to cause harm to our country and especially small children, who suffer more than any other segment of the population. While the basis of their motivation remains uncertain, the outcome is crystal clear: it is destroying our nation.
Katrin: Dreams (Official Video).
Boston singer/songwriter Katrin collaborates with New Orleans based artist Asa on Katrin's song Dreams. Katrin met Asa on New Orleans' famous Frenchman Street, where Asa was selling his art. They immediately made a connecton and began discussing a collaboration. Asa chose to bring Dreams to life in a painting. Set to Katrin's lyrics of unrequited love and hauntings of the past. The secrets that I keep, reveal themselves in my sleep. I still love you. Katrin croons as Asa blasts the canvas with ink and watercolor in sped up time. Caricatures of musicians of notoriety appear on this video including drummer/producer Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel, Sheryl Crowe...), and the legend John Sebastian (The Lovin' Spoonful, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) playing harmonica and guitar. Daniel A. Weiss (Sheryl Crowe) on keyboards and John Harrington on guitar , who also scats on his solo. Who might be that mysterious man dancing with Katrin in the painting? All of the color and sound is brought together by New Orleans Videographer and Indy film maker Karl Demolay. Asa and his beautiful work of art are revealed at the end of the video.
The Pretty Things - Rainin' In My Heart
Beat Club vom 16.4.1966
The Pretty Things are an English rock band, formed in 1963 in London. They took their name from Willie Dixon's 1955 song Pretty Thing. A pure rhythm and blues band in their early years, with several singles charting in the United Kingdom, they later embraced other genres such as psychedelic rock in the late 1960s (with 1968 S.F. Sorrow being one of the first rock operas), hard rock in the early 1970s and new wave in the early 1980s. Despite this, they never managed to recapture the same level of commercial success of their very first releases.
The Pretty Things were preceded by Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys, which consisted of Dick Taylor, fellow Sidcup Art College student Keith Richards, and Mick Jagger, among others. When Brian Jones was recruiting for his own band, all three joined Brian and Ian Stewart and were dubbed Rollin' Stones by Jones in June 1962. Because there were too many guitar players in the band, Taylor switched to bass. He quit the Stones five months later, when he was accepted at the Central School of Art and Design in London. Phil May, another Sidcup student, convinced him to form a new band Taylor was once again playing guitar, with May singing and playing harmonica. They recruited John Stax on bass, Brian Pendleton on rhythm guitar, and Pete Kitley on drums. Kitley was soon replaced by Viv Andrews, also known as Viv Broughton.
A fellow student at the Art College where May and Taylor studied, Bryan Morrison, was recruited as their manager. Morrison was to manage them for the rest of the 1960s, building his own Bryan Morrison Agency. This agency represented Pink Floyd among many other bands. Forming a partnership with songwriter Jimmy Duncan, he got the Pretty Things a recording contract with Fontana Records in early 1964. At this point, Viv Andrews was replaced by Viv Prince, a more experienced drummer who had played with Carter-Lewis and the Southerners.

LYRICS
Big wheels keep on turning
Carry me home to see my kin
Singing songs about the Southland
I miss Alabamy once again
And I think it's a sin, yes
Well I heard Mr Young sing about her
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don't need him around anyhow
Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you
In Birmingham they love the governor
Now we all did what we could do
Now Watergate does not bother me
Does your conscience bother you?
Tell the truth
Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you
Here I come Alabama
Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
And they've been known to pick a song or two
Lord they get me off so much
They pick me up when I'm feeling blue
Now how about you?
Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I'm coming home to you
Sweet home Alabama
Oh sweet home baby
Where the skies are so blue
And the governor's true
Sweet Home Alabama
Lordy
Lord, I'm coming home to you
Simon Newman - Thinks Himself Free: Escaped Slaves in 18th Century Britain
Annual Webb Lecture
Simon P. Newman, Sir Denis Brogan Professor of American History, University of Glasgow
There were thousands of enslaved people in eighteenth-century Britain, brought from around the world by colonists, merchants, planters, clergymen, government officials, and officers. While valued for their labor, these enslaved men, women, and, most especially, children, served as symbols of the success of their masters. This lecture will explore the attempts at escape of some of those enslaved men, women, and children. Drawing on runaway slave advertisements in British newspapers, the lecture will show that although enslavement in Britain appeared mild when compared with the horrors of New World slavery, masters and mistresses continued to believe they held the enslaved as chattel property.
A book signing and reception will follow the program.
Bio: Simon P. Newman is the Sir Denis Brogan Professor of American History at the University of Glasgow. He is the author of numerous books and articles, most recently A New World of Labor: The Development of Plantation Slavery in the British Atlantic (2013), which was awarded the British Association for American Studies Book Prize. His current research focuses on enslaved people who escaped in the eighteenth-century British Atlantic World, and he is the Principal Investigator of the Leverhulme Trust-funded research project “Runaway Slaves in Eighteenth-Century Britain.” During the 2018-19 academic year, he will hold the Mowat Mellon Research Fellowship at the Folger Institute in Washington D.C., where he will be working on a book entitled Runaways: Resisting Enslavement in the British Atlantic World.

100 Books You Must Read - #52+53 - Evangeline and The Song Of Hiawatha by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
One translation of Marcel Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu used a line from Shakespeare's sonnet XXX as the title - Remembrance Of Things Past, even though a more literal translation of the French would be: In Search Of Lost Time. He used some poetic license!
Background music composed, performed and recorded by duckpondwithoutducks.
