★ ★ ★ ดท่าไม้ - Wat Tha Mai ★ ★ ★
Located at the entrance of Hailam canal and adjacent to Tha Chin River, Wat Tha Mai is at 51, Moo 11, Ban Tha Mai, Setthakit 1 Road (Soi 8), Tha Mai subdistrict, Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon Province. Formerly, it was an abbey known as “Po Thamma Rangsi” which was built in 1977.
The temple has bought and got donated the combined area of 6 Rai to build the temple hall, the abbot’s residence and a waterfront pavilion. Later, the temple has been abandoned in dilapidated condition until Phra Kru Thammarat (Ecclesiastical Tha Mai subdistrict head) initiated the restoration. Eventually, it was appointed as a monastery on 28 February 1989.
The verdant temple is filled with trees and houses a pond with the measurement of 4 meters wide by 40 meters long. Within the premises, there is a riverfront garden displaying images of Lord Buddha fighting Mara, Mother Earth, Sahambodi Brahma and the Buddha’s first sermon etched on a granite slate. Near the waterfront central hall stands the statue of Phra Sangkadjai, one of the highly venerable items in the temple.
Other highlights include the assembly hall whose Sema stones in the front are decorated with 7-headed Mujalin Naga. The primary Buddha image inside the assembly hall is the reduplication of Phra Buddha Chinnarat measuring 69 inches across the lap. The temple also contains several pavilions.
For example, the Sermon Hall where Phra Buddha Hiranyarat serves as the main Buddha image; Burapachan Pavilion that enshrines 4 statues of Buddhist masters, namely Luang Pho Tuad, Somdej Phra Puttajarn Toh Phrom-rangsri, Phra Pairote Vutthachan, and Luang Pho Yee; Chinna-banchon Pavilion for dharma and mediation practices; Theva Pitak Pavilion that
enshrines Rahu (the solar eclipse demon); Dharmacakra Kaew pavilion; Quan Yin pavilion; Queen Siri Mahamaya pavilion. In addition to these, there are a number of halls, such as the priests' eating hall, drum tower, belfry, amulets and souvenirs shop.
Visitors also come here to pay homage to Indra, Brahma, Ganesha, Rahu, and Iron Wood goddess. The world’s biggest Lent candle measuring 44 inches wide by 4 meters and 9 inches high is also kept in the temple. Fortune-telling services are so popular that you are required to make a prior reservation. Moreover, the temple provides other services, such as merit extension, luck improvement, karma alleviation, unlucky year prevention, etc.
Centara Grand and Wat Pathum Wanaram temple in Bangkok, Thailand
A view of Centara Grand and Wat Pathum Wanaram temple in Bangkok, Thailand. Built beautifully, one gets to experience the beauty of entire Thailand in one place.
Wat Pathum Wanaram was founded by King Rama IV as a place for worship. This is why it was constructed very near his Sa Pathum Palace. It was only accessible by going through Khlong Saen Saeb (canal in Central Thailand that connects the Chao Phraya River to Chachoengsao and Prachin Buri). Its complete name is quite a mouthful: Wat Pathum Wanaram Ratcha Wora Viharn. In this temple lie the ashes of the Thai Royal family from the household of Prince Mahidol Adulyadej.

THAILAND LIKE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN | Talat Phlu, Thon Buri, Bangkok, Thailand
This is Thailand like you've never seen before. Talat Phlu in Thon Buri, Bangkok, Thailand holds many old traditional Thai houses and markets.
Talat Phlu is now my favorite place to explore in Bangkok, Thailand. It has so many hidden gems in every street you walk down. You never know what you're going to find.
This street started off with old traditional wooden Thai style homes, with food vendors here an there.
I even stumbled across a Chinese temple/shrine in this street.
I decide to turn right at the end of the street and I found myself in a residential area/market area.
It was awesome, to say the least. I didn't expect to find that in these little hidden alleyways.
That's why I love Talat Phlu so much, cause you never know what you'll find.
I do wonder if the market was busier earlier on or if it gets busier later on in the evening when everyone finishes work.
I will have to come back again around those times to check it out.

PINK STREET FOOD VENDORS IN BANGKOK | Ari, Bangkok, Thailand
I found these pink street food vendors in Bangkok. They're next to the Ari BTS Station.
These cool pink street food vendors are all lined up on PHAHON YOTHIN 7 ALLEY. It looks so neat and clean how they're all lined up on the side like that.
The colour pink also makes it look all in unison.
Who said there are no more street vendors in Bangkok?

SMALL BUSY STREET IN BANGKOK | Bangkok, Thailand
This small busy street in Bangkok, Thailand is full of traffic.
I saw quite a few locals walking into this small street and my curiosity got the best of me, so I couldn't help but wonder in myself, just to see what was there.
As always when wondering around the streets of Bangkok, Thailand, you'll always be surprised by what you stumble across and this small street was no exception.
I was surprised to find a small market there as well as authentic street food.

Pratunam,Saen Saep Canal, Bangkok, Thailand ( 3 )
Pratunam is a shopping district in Bangkok. It is a major market area with thousands of fashion stores that sell wholesale with cheap prices guaranteed, especially if you buy in bulk. Pratunam is used in a broad sense here, and it includes the areas of Victory Monument, Ratchathewi and Makkasan.
The southern boundary of Pratunam is marked by the Saen Saep Canal. This canal was dug during the reign of King Rama III in the mid-nineteenth century to connect the Chao Phraya River with the Bang Pakong River to the east. When Saen Saep was connected with Maha Nak Canal and Krung Kasem Canal, a gate was required to control the water level between them. Pratunam literally means water gate. It was not developed until the 1960's when rice fields dominated the landscape as far as the eye could see. Around that time, a fresh produce market was set up near the Indra Hotel at Ratchaprarop Road. Since then more markets have set up here, and the whole area has become known as a local marketplace.
Now Pratunam is often called northern downtown, a title it rightly deserves after the construction of Baiyoke Tower II. Just taking the lift up the tower is an experience not to be missed. More than 300 metres high and counting 88 stories, it is Thailand's tallest building — for now at least, as a taller residential tower is already under construction in Pattaya. It is a distinctive feature of Bangkok's skyline and represents the rising economy of both Pratunam and Thailand as a whole. Surrounding it are plenty of other residential towers and hotels trying to make a buck out of the central location.
But the street markets have never disappeared. Fresh produce has made way for fashion wear, textiles and accessories, but they are still sold at strictly local prices. Endless small alleyways are packed with literally thousands of fashion stores, and they are so cheap because most of them actually sell at wholesale rates. In the north of the district lies Victory Monument, a large military monument that now functions as a major traffic hub. The area became a popular residential neighbourhood for locals and expats working in downtown. It is particularly lively after dusk, when there is a busy night market and an active jazz scene.
HIDDEN FROM TOURISTS | CHEAP STREET FOOD ONLY LOCALS KNOW ABOUT | Ratchathewi, Bangkok, Thailand
This street in Ratchathewi is hidden from tourist and has the cheapest street food only locals know about.
I discovered this place when I went to eat at P'Aor's famous tom yum soup. This hidden street caters to the locals, which is why it's so cheap.
It has many types of street food all lined up on both sides of the street. So don't be afraid that you won't be able to find something to your liking.
This street is a bit hidden from tourists but not too far from the main tourist spots of Pratunam. You can walk from Pratunam/Platinum Fashion Mall to Ratchathewi or you can take a motorbike, tuk tuk or a taxi.
Walking from Pratunam/Platinum Fashion Mall will take you approx. 25-30 mins to walk there.
You definitely won't be disappointed if you decide to venture there.
Hidden from tourists, but has cheap street food only locals know about.

Asian Food - Food Stuff Around Phnom Penh -Youtube
Phnom Penh is the capital and largest city of Cambodia. Located on the banks of the Tonlé Sap and Mekong River, Phnom Penh has been the national capital since French colonization of Cambodia, and has grown to become the nation's center of economic and industrial activities, as well as the center of security, politics, cultural heritage, and diplomacy of Cambodia.
Once known as the Pearl of Asia, it was considered one of the loveliest French-built cities in Indochina in the 1920s. Phnom Penh, along with Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, are significant global and domestic tourist destinations for Cambodia. Founded in 1434, the city is noted for its beautiful and historical architecture and attractions. There are a number of surviving French colonial buildings scattered along the grand boulevards.
Situated on the banks of the Tonlé Sap, Mekong and Bassac rivers, the Phnom Penh metropolitan area is home to about 2.2 million of Cambodia's population of over 14.8 million, up from about 1.9 million in 2008. The city is the wealthiest and most populous city in Cambodia and is the country's political hub.
Phnom Penh (literally, Penh's Hill) takes its name from the present Wat Phnom (Hill Temple). Legend has it that in 1372, a wealthy widow named Lady Penh found a Koki treefloating down the Tonle Sap river after a storm. Inside the tree were four bronzeBuddha statues and a stone statue of Vishnu. Daun Penh ordered villagers to raise the height of the hill northeast of her house and used the Koki wood to build a temple on the hill to house the four Buddha statues, and a shrine for the Vishnu image slightly lower down. The temple became known as Wat Phnom Daun Penh, which is now known as Wat Phnom, a small hill 27 metres (89 ft) in height.
Phnom Penh's official name, in its short form, is Krong Chaktomok meaning City of Four Faces. Krong Chaktomuk is an abbreviation of the full name which was given by King Ponhea Yat, Krong Chaktomuk Mongkol Sakal Kampuchea Thipadei Sereythor Inthabot Borei Roth Reach Seima Maha Nokor. Grocery Shopping Cost in Thailand as a Foreigner
Complete guide from shopping to checkout. One of my most asked questions about living in Thailand as a Foreigner is about grocery shopping. What ingredients are available, price, how clean, convenient it is. Today I explore Big C which is more of a Wal Mart style all in one grocery store in Ratchada. We live on roughly a $1000 budget so cost is important to us. We also don't sacrifice on the quality of the food we prepare as it's related to our health. This is where the locals shop. Let me know if these videos interest you and if you have any other questions about living in Thailand please comment below!

Thailand 2011: Prasat Nong Hong ancient Temple
Prasat Nong Hong is a small archaeological site situated in Ban Non Din Daeng. The archaeological site is worth a visit because of the uniqueness it presents. The site has three prangs made from brick and all the prangs sit on a single laterite base.
The prangs are square shaped and have 12-indented corners. The middle prang is bigger that the adjacent ones. All the prangs have just one entrance facing East. Prasat Nong Hong dates back to the 16th Buddhist century.
Based on what one can see today, it is believed that temple must have had many beautiful lintels. The lintels on the northern prang shown a carved image of Hindu God Vishnu riding on Garuda above Kala's face, who is holding a garland. The other two prangs, the one in the center and the one facing south, have similar lintels but with different depictions. The prang in the middle shows a carved image Hindu God Indra rising an Erawan elephant, while the one in the south shows Hindu God Shiva riding his famous bull, Nandi.
Right in front of the central prag is a walkway with staircases in front and on both sides. All buildings are surrounded by a laterite wall and u-shaped moat. In addition, there is a library that faces the southern prang.
Find your way to Lam Nang Rong Dam and you will find Prasat Nong Hong is situated along the very edge of the dam.

Bangkok to Thonburi - walking and bike tours in Thailand's capital city
This is the second in a series of challenge videos we filmed while we were there.
Bangkok is a big, glittering city of skyscrapers and glistening temples. But go beyond the usual big attractions like the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, escape the shops of Siam Square and the nightlife of Sukhumvit Road and you'll unearth many other sides to the city.
We took tours of Thonburi - just across the Chao Praya from our hotel, the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok - by bike and on foot, boat and tuk-tuk. We found so much local life, culture and traditions. More than we'd unearthed on six previous visits to the city.
But the question is, how would you choose to see the city - by bike or on foot? Did we visit any of your favourite places? Where did we miss out on?
****************
We were in Thailand with Abercrombie & Kent where we undertook a number of challenges with them to take us closer to the Thai experience and culture.
During our trip, we stayed in luxury of course - Abercrombie & Kent is well known for that. In Bangkok we stayed at the Mandarin Oriental, in Chiang Mai at 137 Pillars House, then we finished up with a stay at Banyan Tree Phuket. The accommodation was fantastic, but so was the service.
We were escorted on the trip by A&K guides, Sarah, Joey and Peo, whose knowledge and expertise of our destinations helped us connect ever deeper with Thailand.
But we also got closer to life in Thailand in a way that we hadn't in six previous visits to one of our favourite countries.
****************
Look out for more videos in this series of challenges. We also unearthed some fabulous traditional buys on a shopping challenge, learned to cook Thai food, Muay Thai boxing, Thai massage, local crafts and to make some heady sundowners.
tree growing women-shaped fruit baffles social media after being discovered in Thailand
A strange tree growing in Thailand appears to bear fruit in the exact shape of a young woman - and it's baffling the internet.
But while many are amazed by the shape of the green fruits , others are less convinced by the confusing footage.
In Buddhist mythology , a tree known as the Nariphon bears the fruit of young female creatures and is said to grow in the mythical forest called Himaphan.
The story goes that Buddhist God Indra a home in the forest for his wife Vessantara and his two children. But when Vessantara went out into the forest to collect food, she was in danger of being attacked by terrifying male creatures.
Indra then created 12 special Nariphon trees which would bear fruit in his wife's image to distract the creatures while she picked her own food.
The men would take these fruits back to their homes and after making love to them would sleep for four months, and lose their powersAccording to Thai folklore, after Indra and his wife died, the trees continued to bear fruit.
There are rumoured to be two Nariphon pods in a Buddhist temple near Bangkok
