Ingleborough Walk, Yorkshire Dales Walks In North Yorkshire, England, UK
Ingleborough Walk, Yorkshire Dales Walks In North Yorkshire, England, UK
Ingleborough Walk was about 9.5 miles in distance. The terrain of the route was a combination of Ribblehead Quarry path, rocky Gauber Hill Pasture path, hill, field and ridge paths, flagstone path and boardwalks plus some short track and road sections. The walking involved some level ground, moderate slopes plus two steep scents and two steep descent. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. Some of the paths were a little muddy in places. There were 7 stiles to negotiate.

Yorkshire Dales - Ascent of Ingleborough (2,372 ft)
Taken on the 20th August 2014, this video films the ascent of Ingleborough, one of the Yorkshire Three-Peaks. It was over cast when we set off on the 30 or so mile drive to the base of Ingleborough. But the more we climbed the more the day improved and by the time we were heading back down, the sun was well and truly out. The clouds shadows rolling over the surrounding land was impressive. The views from the top are stunning, look out for the tallest of the three peaks 'Whernside' in the distance, to the left the huge Morecambe bay, to the North peaks visible from the Lake District.
Ingleborough is the second highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales, at 723 metres (2,372 ft). It is one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, the other two being Whernside, at 736 metres (2,415 ft), and Pen-y-ghent, at 694 metres (2,277 ft). Ingleborough is frequently climbed as part of the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, which is a 24-mile (38-km) circular challenge walk starting and finishing in Horton in Ribblesdale. If done anti-clockwise Ingleborough is the last mountain climbed, and ascent is from Chapel-le-Dale.
The striking appearance of Ingleborough from all directions and from a great distance is due to the unusual geology of the underlying rock. The base of the mountain is composed of ancient Silurian and Ordovician rocks which are exposed in the valley bottoms to the north of Ingleton. A belt of Carboniferous Limestone, the 'Great Scar Limestone', some 600 feet (180 m) thick, lies on top of this. Due to the limestone's permeability, all the streams flowing down from the mountain are engulfed upon reaching it, falling into a number of potholes. Above lies the layered Yoredale Series of sedimentary rocks, predominantly shale and sandstone, and generally concealed by the peat but revealed in the escarpments about 1,700 feet (520 m) up. There are also layers of harder limestone sandwiched between the softer rocks which have been eroded faster, and which protect the layers beneath them, leading to the 'tiered' effect. The whole mountain, however, is protected from erosion by a cap of Millstone Grit approximately 100 feet (30 m) tall. The rock above the Millstone Grit layer has been eroded away, which explains the flatness of the summit.
Yorkshire Dales Country Walk Settle to Victoria Cave round
Our video is a guided walk in the Yorkshire Dales from Settle to Victoria Cave. Victoria Cave was named after an inner chamber was discovered by chance in 1837 on the day of Queen Victoria’s coronation. This is an easy to moderate walk on stony, gravel and grass tracks and paths with gates and stiles. There are some steep inclines and declines. Elevation: approx lowest point 152.7m (501ft) approx highest point 418.9m (1374.3ft).
Approx 4 miles allow 2¼ hours using OS Explorer Map OL2, Yorkshire Dales Southern and Western areas. Start point: War Memorial in Settle Market Place. For more info and facilities please see our website.
Ingleton, UK
Ingleton is a village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is 19 miles (30 km) from Kendal and 17 miles (28 km) from Lancaster on the western side of the Pennines. It is 9.3 miles (15 km) from Settle. Ingleton and the surrounding area was settled in the Iron Age by the Brigantes who built a hill fort on top of Ingleborough with walls a kilometer in circumference. The Romans defeated the Brigantes in battle and built a fort alongside the hill fort. The valley was crossed by Roman roads as Ingleton was a strategic river crossing. By the 12th century the Normans had built a church in the village.

Tour of Ingleborough Cave in the Yorkshire Dales, England in HD 1080p
Ingleborough Cave, first entered and made accessible in 1837, is the premier show cave in the Yorkshire Dales. In 2012, it celebrated 175 years of entrancing visitors with an awe inspiring range of stunning cave formations, the imposing cave entrance and the large passages are full of artefacts dating back millions of years along with the evidence of the significant impact of the Ice Ages.
It has been featured many times on television. The tours of the Cave leave from the entrance at regular intervals with an expert guide to help interpret the many features of the Cave.
