Inis Oirr MV Plassey Aran Islands Ireland July 2014
Ferry from Doolin to Inis Oirr (pronounced Inisheer), which is the smallest of the three Aran Islands. With an abundance of flora, fauna and nesting birds, Inis Oirr is a haven for nature lovers and botanists alike. The Aran Islands are one of the last outposts of Gaelic civilization, where Irish is still the spoken language of its inhabitants. On March 8, 1960, while sailing through Galway Bay carrying a cargo of whiskey, the MV Plassey (Plassy) was caught in a severe storm and ran onto Finnis Rock, Inis Oirr. Several weeks later, a second storm washed the ship further inland, where she remains to this day. No lives were lost during this tragedy.

CLADACH BHUN GABHLA - ÁRAINN - INIS MÓR - THE BRANNOCK ISLANDS 2015
CLADACH BHUN GABHLA (Bungowla) - is a sheltered pier and slip, facing across the sound to the Brannock Islands at the western end of Árainn/Inis Mór. ÁRAINN (Inis Mór/Inishmore) is the largest of the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland in County Galway. It is 14.5 km long and 3.8 km wide (at its widest place). The main single road running from the landing strip (Inis Mór Airport) to the main settlement - Cill Rónáin (anglicized as Kilronan), then west to Cill Mhuirbhigh (Kilmurvey) near Dún Aonghasa (Dun Aengus Stone Fort), and finally the road goes to Bun Gabhla (Bungowla) - the westernmost village on Inis Mór/Inishmore, and to Cladach Bhun Gabhla (meaning the stony shore/beach of Bun Gabhla [Bun Gabhla means: the end of forked inlets/creeks]), where it ends at the sheltered pier and slip, looking towards Na Oileáin Bhranóg (the Brannock Islands). Oileán Dá Bhranóg (Brannock Island) is the island closer to Cladach Bhun Gabhla, and the more westerly, further island here, called An t-Oileán Iatharach (Eeragh Island/known in English as Rock Island) is the westernmost of the five Brannock Islands off the coast of Árainn (Inis Mór/Inishmore). There is a lighthouse (automated since 1978) on the island. (The sequence of the lighthouse is one flash every 15 seconds; the light is 35 meters high and is visible for 23 miles or 42.6 km.)
Brannock Island and Rock Island (with the lighthouse on it) were filmed here from the Bun Gabhla pier and slip on a beautiful sunny day at 2:18 P.M. on June 10, 2015. I uploaded the film on the first anniversary of my latest visit to Cladach Bhun Gabhla on June 10, 2016.
