Meghan & Harry's Independent Living Dream Was Threatened As Sussex Royal Trademark Blocked
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's independent living dream was threatened, after their plans to trademark the Sussex Royal brand was blocked.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's hopes of turning the brand into a billion-pound empire have hit a roadblock after a notice of threatened opposition was filed on Tuesday.
It had been hoped that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be able to flog a variety of items with the Royal Sussex branding on.
But the couple could now become embroiled in a legal dispute following the opposition.
The opposition was submitted by Benjamin Worcester, who lives in Victoria, Australia, but it thought to have worked as an NHS doctor from 2011 to 2014.
It is not known why the Melbourne-based doctor filed the notice, but the move could see Harry and Meghan forced into a contracted legal battle.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry first filed the trademark in June 2019, leading to a opposition period where anyone can notify the UK Intellectual Property Office of a complaint.
If this goes through, Meghan and Harry face paying out a fortune to challenge the notice through the courts system.

The Islamic State (Full Length)
WATCH NOW: Embedded with Al-Qaeda in Syria -
The Islamic State, a hardline Sunni jihadist group that formerly had ties to al Qaeda, has conquered large swathes of Iraq and Syria. Previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the group has announced its intention to reestablish the caliphate and has declared its leader, the shadowy Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as the caliph.
The lightning advances the Islamic State made across Syria and Iraq in June shocked the world. But it's not just the group's military victories that have garnered attention — it's also the pace with which its members have begun to carve out a viable state.
Flush with cash and US weapons seized during its advances in Iraq, the Islamic State's expansion shows no sign of slowing down. In the first week of August alone, Islamic State fighters have taken over new areas in northern Iraq, encroaching on Kurdish territory and sending Christians and other minorities fleeing as reports of massacres emerged.
VICE News reporter Medyan Dairieh spent three weeks embedded with the Islamic State, gaining unprecedented access to the group in Iraq and Syria as the first and only journalist to document its inner workings.

Solo Yachtswoman, Kay Cottee – 1988 Australian of the Year
Born into a Sydney yachting family, Kay Cottee developed a childhood ambition to sail around the world. In her twenties she became a proficient boat builder and managed a yacht charter business on Sydney’s northern beaches. She subsequently built the First Lady, in which she became the first woman to circumnavigate the world non-stop and unassisted.
On her epic 189-day journey Cottee set seven world records, returning to a rapturous reception from tens of thousands of spectators on Sydney Harbour in June 1988. Cottee’s Australian of the Year award recognised her inspirational feat, but also honoured her extensive efforts in raising over $1,000,000 for the Life Education Centres of Reverend Ted Noffs. Cottee observed, ‘I think national pride is growing and the land of the great knockers is fading out. A lot of people didn’t take me seriously when I started my journey, but everyone joined in as I got further along the way.’

Dare to dream: Mossman Gorge Centre
In remote Australia, unemployment continues to be one of the big issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. But there are a growing number of communities that are finding new ways to create jobs and a better future for themselves and their families.
The Kuku Yalanji people of the Mossman Gorge area in north Queensland had a dream to develop a business enterprise to help provide income and prosperity for their people.
When the new $20 million Mossman Gorge Centre, an Indigenous eco-tourism business in the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park, opened with 90 per cent Indigenous staffing in June 2012, this dream became a reality.
The centre was constructed by the Indigenous Land Corporation (ILC) in collaboration with Mossman Gorge Aboriginal Community on land purchased through the ILC's Land Acquisition Program.
The centre provides Indigenous employment and training, including at a residential training facility located at the centre.
Cameron Buchanan is a tour guide at the Mossman Gorge Centre and he is passionate about the work he does.
I love what I am doing and I love sharing the knowledge and culture about Aboriginal people of the land, Cameron said.
The centre employs up to 70 Indigenous people during the tourism high season and in the first month of operation the business welcomed 30,000 visitors through the centre.
Kuku Yalanji elder and driving force behind the establishment of the business Roy Gibson is proud of what's been achieved and says it's a great way to share their people's story.
It is our turn to show that we can do something and share culture at the same time, Roy said.
