Canadian Rocky Mountains
Banff Johnston Canyon - as Johnston Creek approaches the Bow River, it flows through a large canyon formed by erosion over thousands of years. The creek has cut through the limestone rock to form sheer canyon walls, as well as waterfalls, tunnels, and pools.
A popular hiking trail follows the canyon and leads to a meadow within the Johnston Valley above the canyon. The first part of the trail consists of a constructed walkway with safety rails and bridges, while the last part of the trail is natural and more rugged. Within the meadow are the Ink Pots, which are six blue-green spring-fed pools. The Ink Pots themselves are mineral springs that differ in colour because each pool fills at a different rate. According to a sign The Milky-Green Pools Fill More Slowly And Have A Heavier Suspension Of Fine Materials Than The Clear, Deep-Blue Pools
Johnston Canyon is one of the most popular destinations in Banff National Park, and for good reason; it is a place of dramatic natural beauty accessible to most. It is particularly popular during the summer and at certain times of the winter. If you seek a more peaceful experience, try visiting Johnston Canyon during the spring and fall, or make the most of the long summer days by going in the early morning or mid evening.

Ink Pots are a group of seven crystal-clear, jade-green and very beautiful spring-fed pools of water located in a meadow above Johnston Creek past the Upper and Lower Falls in Johnston Canyon. The source of the warm water feeding the pristine jade pools is unknown.

Backpacking Badger Pass, Ink Pot, Johnston Canyon - Banff National Park
Scenery: ★★★★
Difficulty: ★★★★★
Day 1: Bankhead Trailhead - Cascade Valley - Fint's Park campground
Day 2: Fint's Park - Badger pass - Badger pass junction campground
Day 3: Ink Pot - Johnston Canyon
The video is not edited in chronicle order.
Distance: 80Km (50miles)
Our original plan was backpacking Mt Assiniboine which is one of the most beautiful mountains in Canadian Rockies. Unfortunately, however, the area was closed due to the extreme wild fire. You might have noticed that the air quality was not good in the video.
We had not many choices as it's the busiest season and all the popular campsites were full. Fortunately, a park ranger in the wilderness center managed to find a route with available campsites for us. Thanks to her for spending more than an hour finding the route and making the campsite reservation for us.

Daily Banff Itinerary
► Day 1 - #lakelouise & #lakeagnes
We started off our Banff adventure with a bang! Lake Louise right out of the gate! We had to wake up SO SO early in order to get a parking spot (actually had to do this 3 out of 4 days) but is was SO SO worth it! After checking out Lake Louise we hiked up to Lake Agnes and the Agnes Teahouse for a snack at the quaint little teahouse in the mountains!
► Day 2 - #morainelake to #rockpiletrail & #larchvalley to #sentinelpass & #sulphurmountain
This was a HUGE day. We did SO much and had SUCH a full day, but to be honest we weren't tired at the end, we were energized by all of the incredible sights ad adventure! The Rockpile Trail at sunrise was our favorite place in all of Banff. And Larch Valley to Sentinel Pass was a challenging hike through the Valley of Ten Peaks was stunning. We finished off the day in Banff Town with a hike up and gondola ride down (free late in the afternoon!) Sulphur Mountain, which is visually extraordinary!
► Day 3 - #lakeminnewanka
We had a chill day on Day 3, checking out Lake Minnewanka right outside Banff Town. This was the 1 day out of our 4 day trip that we slept in, and goodness gracious we sure took advantage of the extra sleep! Lake Minnewanka is a stunning, ENORMOUS lake that has MILES AND MILES of trails and hikes all around it. We chose to do a few lakeside strolls and hang out with the beautiful view all around us.
► Day 4 - #littlebeehive & bigbeehive & #plainofsixglaciers & #peytolake
Our Number 1 favorite hike in Banff was on Day 4! We sure saved the best for last. Big Beehive and Little Beehive offer some of the most INCREDIBLE overlooks of Lake Louise. You'll have a perspective that not many people will ever get of one of the most stunning lakes on planet earth. The two beehives are a MUST! So is Plain of Six Glaciers. Finish off the day with a drive up to Peyto Lake and you will put a crown on an AWESOME BANFF ADVENTURE!
Hi, we are Julie & Zach, a couple who sold everything in 2018 and took off an adventure around the world! So far, this journey has taken us in a van ALL ACROSS the United States and Canada, from snorkeling with manatees in Florida to camping in the Grand Canyon to climbing glaciers in Canada, and everything in between! We were both working and going to school while living in Chicago in 2017 and 2018, and to be honest it really wore on us. We were exhausted, unfulfilled, and ready for an adventure. So, we made it happen! We saved up AS MUCH as we could over those 2 years - all homemade meals, no shopping, walk or bike everywhere, etc - and sold almost all of our belongings! With that money, we bought a renovated a van that we have been living in ever since! We started our YouTube channel a few weeks ago and have been loving creating videos! When we started, we were SO SO SO SO bad at it, and to be honest we still kinda suck, but we want to get better! What videos do you want to see? What do you want to know? Let us know and we will make it happen!
We believe that travel is truly a life-changing experience, it certainly changed ours! When you get out of your everyday world and experience new cultures, foods, places, people, sights, sounds, and take an adventure, you grow as a person and you become a better version of yourself! You are WAY stronger than you know, and stronger than you give yourself credit for. You have the ability to do anything, so make it happen! BE FOREVER FREE!

Johnston Canyon and the Ink Pots
Johnston Canyon is a very popular destination in Banff National Park. The trail will take you to the 1st falls, and the 2nd falls, and if you're up for a longer hike, you can walk the 6 kilometres to the Ink Pots: spring-fed colourful ponds in the midst of a beautiful mountain valley. In fact, there are more than 2 falls in this canyon. There are many, including dramatic rapids. The many falls and the surrounding canyon make for a beautiful and invigorating mountain walk any time of year. Music by Mike Fijal.

HIKING JOHNSTON CANYON AND THE INKPOT TRAIL /// BANFF /// CANADA
It's the height of summer and we hiked the very steep incline up to the Inkpots. Totally worth it! Great day.
Cory Pass - Edith Pass Hike, Banff National Park, Alberta
9 of us headed out to do the Cory Pass / Edith Pass Loop in Banff National Park. It's just a short 5 minute drive from Banff and you park at the Fireside Picnic area.
The hike itself is a strenuous hike as the majority of the elevation gain is accomplished in the first 1.5-2.0 kms. Amazing Views even with the Smoke from the B.C. wildfires. Gargoyle valley has some really cool rock formations. Highly recommended.
Get outside and explore this great Province and the mountains right in our backyard.

Hiking Mt Temple, Banff National Park
Scenery: ★★★★★
Difficulty: ★★★★★
Mt Temple is 9th highest peak in Canadian Rockies, the highest peak in Lake Louise area. I would say that the view from the top was the most beautiful scenery that I had ever seen. I was so impressed that I bursted into tears.
Although it's very strenuous hike, 99% of the trail is class 1. The trail is not difficult to follow as marked with cairns and ribbons when it is not obvious. There is a short class 3 section, 5m (15ft) rock climbing which is not that difficult.
If you are interested in hiking Mt Temple, I recommend that you start as early as possible not because it's a long hike but because there will be no parking space in Moraine lake trailhead if you arrive late in the morning. I think 7am is safe, but if you arrive 9am, you might not be allowed to drive to the trailhead, you will have to take the free shuttle instead.
We stayed 2 nights before and after this hike in Lake Louise campground which is very close to the trailhead. Make a reservation as earlier as possible if you are interested in as it's very popular and really nice campground with hot shower.
Trailhead: Moraine Lake
Summit: 3,543 m (11,621 ft.)
Elevation gain: 1,690 m (5, 543 ft.)
Round-trip distance: 16 km (10 miles)
Round-trip time: 12 hours

episode 1 - Johnston Canyon Ink Pots Hike
Our first ever hike together, you might even say that this was our first date. The Johnston Canyon Ink Pots hike is located just outside Banff Alberta, and is an absolutely beautiful treck through a canyon dotted with stunning waterfalls.
We frequently head to the mountains for spring water, and this is a hike we enjoy revisiting from time to time. For more information on fresh water springs, check out:
