Its population was 2,866,615 inhabitants at the 2010 census, of whom 1,980,774 lived in the built-up (or metro) area made up of 4 urban districts.
The name of the city in Mongolian means Blue City—Kuku-Khoto in Mongolian—although it is also wrongly referred to as the Green City. The color blue in Mongol culture is associated with the sky, eternity and purity; in Chinese, the name can be translated as Qīng Chéng (Chinese: 青城), literally, Blue/Green City.
The name has also been variously romanized as Kokotan, Kokutan, Kuku-hoton, Huhohaot'e, Huhehot, Huhhot, or Köke qota.

It is located along a river in Kandehuo Enclosure, Xinjie Town, Ejen Khoruu Banner, Ordos Prefecture-Level City (formerly Yeke Juu league), Inner Mongolia, People's Republic of China. Genghis Khan worship is a religion popular among Mongolians, with ties to traditional Mongolian shamanism.[1] There are other temples of this worship culture in Inner Mongolia and Northern China. 喀喇沁亲王府及家庙位于中国内蒙古自治区赤峰市喀喇沁旗王爷府镇，是清代内蒙古卓索图盟喀喇沁右翼旗的王府、佛堂、文武庙和宗祠，2001年被列为第五批全国重点文物保护单位，现已辟为中国清代蒙古王府博物馆。喀喇沁亲王府始建于清康熙十八年（1679年），初按郡王府规格建造，乾隆四十八年（1783年）按亲王府规格扩建。现占地四万平方米，呈中、东、西三路布局。
Sai Shang Old Street Hohhot
The Sai Shang Old Street 塞上老街 is located right next to Dazhao Temple.
There are quite a number of streetside stalls and shops selling all kinds of Mao memorabilia and Mongolian souvenirs. Things are generally quite cheap and you won’t be find to find conventional souvenirs e.g. postcards, magnets and other kitschy stuff here.

Shangri-La Hotel is the only international luxury hotel in Manzhouli, which is a city in Inner Mongolia, China. I visited in winter, when the temperature was around -26C (-14F). Fortunately, the hotel provided a luxurious base to stay at while exploring the winter wonderland of Mongolian, Russian and Chinese culture.

Travel China: Inner Mongolia adventure: An adventure on the road in Inner Mongolia, a day trip from Manzhouli. It's near the border of Russia and Mongolia. I visited in winter, when day-time temperatures were around -26 Celsius (-14 Faherenheit) and experienced the Hulunbuir grasslands and Mongolian culture.
