Ireland adventure Day 8 started in Dingle and we drove the Dingle Loop North to South. Beautiful coastal views including a couple spots they filmed the Force Awakens and the Last Jedi. Then we drove the Ring of Kerry and saw the Cliffs of Kerry before driving to Killarney to spend the night. Could have split this day into 2 or 3 days and still had plenty of stuff to see.

Gap of Dunloe Killarney Kerry Ireland by Martin Varghese holiday trip 2015
Gap of Dunloe Kerry Ireland by Chry_Martin (Martin Varghese - Ireland)
The Gap of Dunloe is a rugged mountain pass on the eastern side of the Kerry's MacGillycuddy's Reeks close to Killarney Town. It is famous for it's rugged scenery, unspoilt landscape and corrie lakes.
Walking is the best way to see the Gap of Dunloe, leaving your car at Kate Kearneys Cottage. This is a long walk which will takes nearly a full day to complete. It begins alongside Kate Kearneys Cottage and takes the walker through some rugged mountain scenery of a mountain gap.
Alternatively, it you have neither the time nor the energy to walk you can hire either a pony or a pony & trap to travel the route. There are fantastic vistas of rocky overhanging mountains and deep and mystic mountain lakes. The route carries the you through the Gap into the Black Valley.
From there route leads to the Upper Lake and and the Queens Cottage - which is a fantastic walk on its own - offering great views of the Upper Lake and the surrounding woodland.
From here Killarney town is a further 12km and it is not recommended to walk this as you will have already walked 14km and much of the road to Killarney has reasonably heavy traffic and there is not much of a footpath. So prior to setting out, organise for someone pick you up on the other side.
A very popular and most commonly used touring option is as follows;
The journey begins at approx 10.00 at the wonderfully restored 15th century Ross Castle where you are taken by the traditional open boats through the Three Lakes of Killarney passing by Innisfallen Island, Bricin Bridge, Colleen Bawn Rock, Torc Mountain, Old Weir Bridge , The Meetings of The Waters just to mention a few. The boat journey takes approximately 2 hours and ends at the local cottage restaurant Lord Brandon’s Cottage where you can enjoy a light snack.
Here you change to a pony and trap and jaunt through the Gap of Dunloe where you can view a spectacular glaciated valley. The tour is the perfect way to see the rich and varied vegetation and scenery Killarney has to offer. Your day ends at the renowned Kate Kearney’s Cottage.
It is often described as another Wonder of The World

360 VIDEO: Innisfallen Island in Ireland's Lough Leane (Lake of Learning) contains some of the most impressive early Christian archeological remains in Europe. Here you see the ruins of Innisfallen Abbey, founded in AD 640, where monks wrote the early history of Ireland over a period of 300 years. Medieval High King of Ireland Brian Boru received his education at this monastery.
