Breweries, Wineries, And Distilleries | A Weekend In Healesville, Victoria, AUSTRALIA | June 2019
Hey guys, we are going to be doing some travel/food vlogs, especially during the offseason and on our travels, and here is the first one of those as we spent the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend in Healesville/Marysville, North East of Melbourne, Australia.
We visited the Four Pillars Gin Distillery, Watt's River Brewing, Innocent Bystander Winery, and Giant Steps Winery during our time there.
This is a first go at doing a travel vlog and will be providing more during our upcoming trip to the USA. Big thanks to Sali for filming and especially for editing this video.

Innocent Bystander Pinot Noir
Mt. Toolebewong, Healesville
Mt Toolebewong is approximately 6kms South of Healesville. Don Road, which branches off from The Maroondah Highway just near The Innocent Bystander, will take you directly to this area. Its a real treat, and is a beautiful forest to drive through and enjoy. Just beyond where this was filmed, the road becomes gravel and winds its way to Warburton via the summit road. Its passable in a normal car, but if you've got a 4X4 its probably better. More at

Punt Road MVN, Yarra Valley 2008
Brought over by Phil Sexton (Giant Steps/Innocent Bystander) for a tasting superbly put together by John McDonnell of Wine Australia. This time the Yarra Valley, a cool climate area, known mainly for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This, however, is a Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Punt Road is sourced from the Napoleone Family's Emperor's Prize vineyard in Coldstream. While it says Cabernet Sauvignon on the label, there are small amounts of Petit Verdot and Merlot.
Made in very small quantities, we were very lucky to get some at the Yarra Valley tasting last week in Dublin. It's also made for extended cellaring. Full bodied, structured, elegant. At first tasting, I scribbled too much, too big, too young, too soon. It reminded me of a French en primeur tasting which we don't see too much of in Ireland these days.
Having been kept in the fridge for 2-3 days it really mellowed out and became a new wine. Dare I say drinkable? And it was.
Food and Winery in Yarra Valley, Melbourne Australia
It was 30/12/2018.... And we are headed for scenic driving routes, along Yarra Valley, and visited countless Wineries

===================================
Let me breakdown some of the key information for you, as to where I have visited around Yarra Valley.
(Sorry if I have missed out Box Hill, did not spend much time there)
We started off at Four Pillars GIN, and it has really great ambience not only for GIN enthusiasts, but also coffee drinkers.

Thereafter, it is lunch at Innocent Bystanders, good food and wines were okay, but except for its Moscato. It really stands out of the crowd (Just figured I am very innocent after drinking.... lots of it LOL)

Address - 316-334 Maroondah Hwy, Healesville VIC 3777, Australia
Oakridge Winery, was exquisite, and its target audience were mostly mature drinkers. (I am young nothing excites me, but they really have good knowledge about wines, and really good service it was).

Address - 864 Maroondah Hwy, Coldstream VIC 3770, Australia
Then for the finale was Chandon, sounds familiar? YES.... They used to sponsor Formula Podium Champagne and the McLaren F1 Team

Pairing Local Yarra Valley
Innocent Bystander in the Yarra Valley makes great wines like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their secret weapon is Winemaker/Chef/Cheese maker Steve Flamsteed. He creates two localized wine+food pairings.
Innocent Bystander Syrah 2009 from Red Squirrel Wine
Why Innocent Bystander? This is a group of winemakers and viticulturalists who eschew the bland direction and market dominance increasingly exerted by the large corporate winemaking groups. In a nutshell, they see themselves as Innocent Bystanders.
Established in 2004 by Phil Sexton, Innocent Bystander is an independent winery focused on producing quality, flavour-driven wines from carefully selected vineyards in the Yarra Valley and beyond. The winery is built around gravity flow principles and designed for small-batch winemaking. Over time Steve Flamsteed and his team have increased the level of complexity and texture in the Innocent Bystander wines with greater use of wild fermentations and restrained oak handling.
Located in the main street of Healesville, Innocent Bystander has set a new standard in small-batch winemaking and modern cellar door presentation. With artisan bread, house-roasted coffee, a cheese room and a bistro featuring the best in local and seasonal produce, Innocent Bystander is figuratively and literally unmissable.
Winemakers: Steve Flamsteed & Dave Mackintosh
Place: Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia
Grapes: Syrah (98%), Viognier (2%)
ABV: 14%

Debra Meiburg MW Meets the Winemaker 154: Steve Flamsteed, Innocent Bystander
Steve explains to Debra what it's like being an Innocent Bystander in the big world of Australian wine as a little family operation in the Yarra Valley. He describes the evolution of Aussie Chardie, with its move away from an oakier butterscotch style to something leaner and more minerally, and shares why their Pinot is always going to be pretty and perfumed rather than big and muscly. And while they're on the topic of fermentation, Steve gets into why the bread at his other property, Giant Steps, is well worth the trek to the winery.
Yarra Valley Vlog (Road trip from Melbourne)
Hello everyone! I'm back this time with our new road trip video from Melbourne, we drove 60km to Yarra Valley and we are going to spend 3 days here before we head to Phillip Island.
This vlog will be a covering our trip for the first 2 days, and some places we visited is listed down below:
Balgownie Estate, Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery, Coldstream Brewery, Warratina Lavender Farm, Meletos, Oakridge Winery.
Highly recommend the Chocolaterie & Ice creamery cafe, they have very nice desserts be it ice cream, cakes, mousse etc!
Our favourite restaurant would be Meletos, in Yarra Valley, apart from the amazing view, and good food they have their brewery tour too! be sure to book it in advance else you would miss it like us!
We bought most of our wines from Oakridge Winery, they really have the best dessert wine I've ever tasted! SOOOOOO worth to go there~!
Punt Road Harvest 2015
A recap of vintage 2015 when the grapes were flowing into the winery, the barrel hall was full of ferments, the crush pad was thriving with forklifts, and the whole place was buzzing with cellarhands. What a great year!
