Let's have a glimpse into the real Korea - in this must-visit spot for every tourist in Seoul: Insadong! From the best traditional souvenirs to authentic old and modern foods, paintings, masks and crafts - Insadong has it all and offers a great mix of new and old Korean influences.
The Insadong area is famous for its appeal to foreign tourists, as it boasts a large selection of shops selling everything traditional Korean, without feeling like a rip-off tourist trap as other places in the world.
Walking among the many Koreans dressing up in the traditional Korean Hanbok, you can find beautiful Korean scroll paintings, traditional Korean masks and yummy local tea blends. Also other stuffs that you might have grown fond of during your stay in Korea is available in these shops - local sweets, a huge selection of Korean Ginseng products and beautiful crafts - e.g. decor items or accessories. Especially the multi-level Ssamjigil craft shopping center offers 4 levels of shops and places for little snacks.
If your souvenir hunt is done you may also enjoy the wide variety of traditional restaurants, tea houses and cafés in this area. Prices are slightly higher, but quality, decoration and the great selection of different flavors make these restaurants still a favorite among locals. And of course for your small appetite, there is also great streetfood to be had. Various skewers, rice cakes, rice toffees, dragonbeard candy, hotteoks or greentea icecream, to name a few.

Insadong | the BEST Tourist & Souvenir Streets in Seoul
Insadong proved to be quite the entertaining blend of traditional Korea and gimmicky tourist trap, from handmade ceramics to PSY socks. Whether you're a citizen of Seoul or just visiting, it's definitely worth a visit! Maybe even after a day of touring Bukchon Hanok Village in your hanbok, which is quite conveniently located just across the street!

Insadong is one of the most visited places by foreigners. As many tourists visit Insa-dong, there are far more floating people than owners.

Visiting Insadong street (인사동) in Seoul for Korean culture, buying souvenirs & street food
In our latest travel video we venture of to one of our favorite areas in Seoul, known as Insadong street (인사동) on a quest to experience Korean culture, buy some Korean souvenirs, have our caricature drawn and sample plenty of Korean street food. The video captures all of the action on the busiest pedestrian street in all of Seoul, South Korea. You'll notice several time lapse videos of the Korean and foreign pedestrians walking down the street along with a Korean man dancing and several other distinct moments.
Insadong is one of the top places in Seoul to sample Korean street food and/or witness Korean folk/street performers.

Some of the Korean street food we spotted included giant walking cane shaped chips, waffles, hotteok and various kinds of dried seafood.
A small crowd huddled beside a talented Korean man showcasing his calligraphy skills on the side of the main strip.
Although Insadong is extremely crowded with pedestrians, we still spotted a few animals and birds including a cat eating out of a traditional Korean bowl.
While wandering down the bustling street we noticed young Korean men and women holding out Free Hugs signs.
Naturally we both decided to receive a free hug; however, it was kind of awkward. I'm not entirely sure 'why', possibly because we were filming, but I think the young Korean lady who gave us both a hug felt really awkward.
While shopping Audrey noticed a matching couple Korean mask set along with some other cute Korean socks.
In Seoul, couples often buy matching outfits, socks, hats and/or anything else as a way of showing love for one another.
Although, it may seem a little cheesy as an outsider, it's just part of modern day Korean culture that embraces all things 'cute.'
For our new YouTube channel we decided to find a place where we could have our caricature drawn.
After posing for several minutes it was time for us to see the drawing for the first.
We both instantly loved it. My over-exaggerated forehead and Audrey's gigantic teeth certainly made us chuckle.
Overall, it was a wonderful way for us to spend our last weekend in Korea. We ended up doing some shopping for our friends and family back home and we tried to absorb as much Korean culture as possible because we have no idea when/if we'll be back in Seoul again.

Hi guys! In this video, we eat at Miss Lee Cafe in Insadong, then head over to the Poop cafe on the 4th Floor of Ssamzigil in Insadong. Then we pick up some Dragon's beard candy. Then we watch a cute performance by my daughter, have dinner at CPK Korea, and end the evening with one of my favorite things of late - Gatchapons. For some reason I wasn't that into the gatcha gatcha machine in Japan - I felt like it was more for my daughter, but now Im getting into them myself.
Miss Lee Cafe is a modern/traditional cafe in Insadong with a retro atmosphere reminiscent of the 80's and 90's in Korea. Popular menu items include the old school dosirak (lunch box), bingsoo, and traditional Korean snacks.

This is a quirky little cafe that is seemingly gross but surprisingly cute. I didn't mind drinking my latte out of a toilet bowl. If you want to experience something unique in Korea, you can find this cafe in Insadong on the 4th floor of the Ssamzigil shopping complex.

We ordered the cranberry honey pizza and the triple mushroom & truffle pizza. Dare I say it was better than California's CPK... (tricolore pizza salad excepted of course).
