One Day in OSAKA, JAPAN | Visiting Osaka Castle
BEST Sushi So Far In Osaka and a Quick Visit to Nara - Japanese Food Travel in Osaka!
► Check out our Osaka Food Guide for details on restaurants in these videos:
On Day 12 in Osaka, Japan, we decided to first take a quick day trip to Nara, a city that’s about a 45 minute train ride from Osaka. We then returned to Osaka, and had some of the finest sushi I had during my trip there.
00:27 Trip to Nara - Nara is an old and historical town in Japan, not far from Osaka and Kyoto. It’s very easy to get there by public transportation. The first thing you’ll notice as soon as you arrive to Nara are the deer - they are free roaming all over the city, and people love to interact with them.
2:48 Todai-ji Temple - 500 JPY ($4.17) - One of the biggest and most famous temples in Nara is the Todai-ji Temple, and although it was intensely busy, we decided to pay the entrance fee and go inside. It was good to see, but it was a very busy day that we visited.
4:09 Lunch at Happoh Restaurant (和食屋 八寶) - After walking around Nara for a while, we headed back towards the train station, and had lunch at a restaurant called Happoh Restaurant (和食屋 八寶). The food was alright, but not the best. We then took the train back to Osaka to do some shopping and eating.
6:15 Tenjinbashisuji Shotengai - Tenjinbashisuji Shotengai is the longest shopping street in Japan, and it goes on for something like 2.6 km. We got back to Osaka, and walked around this area, before eating some amazing sushi.
7:23 Harukoma Sushi (春駒 支店) - While walking around the shopping market, I noticed a line of people, all waiting for a turn to get into Harukoma Sushi (春駒 支店), a famous sushi restaurant in Osaka. I had researched this restaurant and had wanted to eat here, but I didn’t know when we were going to get there, or where it was - but we stumbled into it, and decided to go straight in line to eat there. The sushi turned out to be some of the best sushi I had in Osaka. It wasn’t fancy, but it was good quality, big pieces of sushi and fish, and it felt like we were at a fish market. Awesome sushi, good prices, and friendly service.
Read more about this restaurant on my blog:
That was all for Day 12 in Osaka - it was another good day, and the sushi was the highlight for me.

Japanese Apartment Tour in Osaka, Japan
Join us for a Japanese Apartment Tour in Osaka, Japan as we showcase our airbnb rental that we stayed in for just over a week. Before coming to Japan we had this preconceived idea that all of our accommodations in Japan would be tiny and expensive. I suppose we thought of our experience in cities like Hong Kong and Singapore and assumed we'd be cramped for most of our trip. Surprisingly we found not only larger apartments that we expected but prices that were very reasonable and conveniently located nearby metro stations. Our Osaka apartment was in a great location (stone throw away from a metro), was quite spacious and was inexpensive. The fascinating thing about Japanese apartments is that space efficiency is maximized in a way you don't see outside of Asia in Europe or in North America. For example, sliding doors that don't take up space, chairs that can stored under tables and a bed big enough that a suitcase can fit underneath. Overall, we'd say our apartment in Osaka, Japan was excellent value, comfortable and located just perfect for our trip. We'd highly recommend this place:

Japanese Apartment Tour in Osaka, Japan Travel Video Transcript:
Today is a bit of a rainy day here in Osaka. Not ideal for sightseeing so we figured let's give you an apartment tour of our place here in the city. We've been staying here for about a week and we got this place for $30 US dollars a night. That is a steal for Japan. Like that is so budget friendly in my opinion. We're going to go upstairs and we're going to give you the grand tour.
We made it to our floor. First things first we've got a little hook for our umbrella. Everyone keeps their umbrellas outside. No one takes them. That is wonderful.
We are inside the apartment and if you've been traveling in Asia you know that no shoes are allowed inside the house. This is the area where you take off your dirty shoes and then you have this little cupboard. You've got your cupboard for all of the shoes. Little shoe rack. You put your shoes in.
This is our bathroom and it has three different sections. It is the largest Japanese bathroom I've ever seen. When we were looking at properties I was actually kind of surprised by the size of it.
We are now inside the bathroom and this first section here it basically has a washing machine. A large sink, a mirror. This is where you brush your teeth. Get ready in the morning. Then over here behind this frosted glass door we have our shower and our bathtub. Now I just had a shower so the floor is soaking wet. I'm going to put on my flip flops. Flips flops.
Outside. Basically you have a bathtub. It is a short bathtub. You have to be shorter than me I feel to like stretch out your legs. Definitely shorter than me. And then we also have a shower head. You shower in this section. The floor gets wet. And then basically the water goes through this drain down here. It drains there. Something I've got to mention is the water pressure is awesome here.
And then we have our toilet. It is compartmentalized. It is small. It is little but it has got everything you need. And I need to show you this. When you flush the toilet. So this is the toilet handle.
You can wash your hands and like the water you are using to wash your hands is used to fill the tank. So you are not wasting any water. That is genius.
That is a wrap for our Osaka apartment tour. I hope you guys enjoyed that and that you have an idea of what to expect in the city.
I think there are some really budget friendly properties when we were looking there were a lot of places that were listed for like 30 or 40 dollars a night for like private apartments. We found this place on airbnb.

When it comes to Japanese street food in Osaka the one place you must visit to sample all of the local delights is the bustling neighborhood of Dōtonbori (道頓堀). Even though it was raining we made the most of our experience chowing down on Osaka street food all afternoon long alternating between savory and sweet snacks. The following is a complete list of all the Japanese street food we tried in Osaka:
1) Taiyaki (鯛焼き) Fish shaped batter with red bean paste and/or sweet potato inside (180 and 200 Yen)
2) Kushikatsu (串カツ) Fried meat skewers with dipping sauce (1200 Yen for an entire platter to share)
3) Gyoza (餃子) Japanese pan fried dumplings (8 for 400 Yen)
4) Takoyaki (たこ焼き / 蛸焼) Osaka octopus balls (6 pieces for 450 Yen)
5) (Monaka - 最中) Ice cream with red bean paste and a shell (160 Yen)
6) Warabimochi (蕨餅) Jelly with toasted soybean flour on top (280 Yen)
このビデオでは、大阪の日本でストリートフードを試してみます。私たちの好きな料理の中には、タコヤキ、串カツ、タイ焼きなどがあります。大阪ストリートフードは信じられないほどのもので、道頓堀を訪れたことが大好きです。

Japanese Street Food Tour in Osaka, Japan Travel Food Video Transcript:
We have an exciting video for you today. It is going to be all about the street food. We are here in Osaka (大阪市) in Dōtonbori (道頓堀) which is famous for nightlife and street food. We have come here in the middle of the day. We're going to turn this into our lunch. And just try as many Japanese snacks and dishes as possible. Japanese street food for you guys.
Okay so time for our very first snack. And we are starting with something sweet. This is called Taiyaki (鯛焼き) and it is basically a pancake shaped like a fish. So we got two different varieties. They have the classic which is stuffed with red bean paste.
we have found a place serving Kushikatsu (串カツ). Round two guys of street food guys.
So this is Kushikatsu (串カツ). This is basically they are fried skewers. Kushi means skewer. Mmhmm. Katsu means meat.
This is our third snack here in Dōtonbori (道頓堀).
And we found a gyoza (餃子) stand so we ordered up a little tray. This was 400 Yen and you get 8 pieces.
And when it rains in Osaka (大阪市) it pours. It pours. Oh my gosh how the weather has changed today. So lucky we brought our umbrellas. But anyways we are moving on to our 4th dish right now. And we have something called Takoyaki (たこ焼き / 蛸焼). Takoyaki (たこ焼き / 蛸焼) is basically a ball shaped snack. It is made with batter. It has chopped up octopus. It has pickled ginger. Um and then once it is ready they put on a bit of barbecue sauce, some mayo and these little things that you see moving around. That is bonito flakes. It is fish flakes.
Moving on to dessert. So take a look at this guys it is melting quickly. I've got a big scoop of vanilla ice cream (Monaka - 最中). I have red bean paste. Red bean paste and then I have uh an outer shell here.
Alright so Sam had ice cream. I am having Warabimochi (蕨餅). And I kind of have to assemble this myself.
So the mochi (餅 - もち) comes in this little plastic container. Oh that almost looks like jelly. Yeah.
And then we're going to have to add this powder on top.
It is time to say goodbye. It is always sad when the street food tour is ending. Yeah. Because we just love street food so much. And I have to admit this is the first time we've ever filmed street food in the rain so it was an interesting procedure. Hahaha.
Anyways we really enjoyed this street food tour here in Osaka (大阪市) and if you want to see more Japanese food and travel content stay tuned because we have a lot more coming.
This is part of our Travel in Japan video series showcasing Japanese food, Japanese culture and Japanese cuisine.

Japanese Food Tour in Osaka: Kuromon Market and AMAZING Sushi!
► Check out our blogs: Mark: Ying: Dwight:
After surviving the surprise chicken sashimi, Day 2 in Osaka was an all out food day. We woke up kind of late due to our late arrival the night before and headed to Kuromon Ichiba Market (黒門市場) to start eating. For lunch we had some incredibly delicious sushi!
0:28 Kuromon Ichiba Market (黒門市場) - To begin the day we headed over to the famous Kuromon Ichiba Market (黒門市場), located right near Namba station or Nippombashi (Nipponbashi). The market, although it’s a tourist attraction in Osaka, it remains very friendly, and I think it’s still a wonderful market - there are plenty of things to eat, and what I really liked is that many of the vendors that sell there or have restaurant are extremely friendly. We started off by eating one of the most famous foods in all of Osaka: takoyaki - fried octopus pancake balls. I’m not a huge lover of takoyaki, but these were actually quite good, mainly because they were fried so fresh. The outer part of the takoyaki was crispy and the inside was hot and had that nice mixture of half cooked pancake batter with a piece of octopus in the middle. Overall, one of the best takoyaki’s I’ve ever had in my life. We continued walking through Kuromon Ichiba Market (黒門市場) and when Dwight and I saw scallops being cooked over charcoal on their half shell, and neither of us could resist ordering one on spot - despite them being quite expensive. The scallops were cleaned then put back into their shell and roasted over fire with just a hint of soy sauce and butter for extra flavor. It was marvelous. Still walking around Kuromon Ichiba Market (黒門市場) I saw a store on the corner specializing in tuna, all things tuna. He had some plates of rolled up sushi, and they were filled to the max with red fleshy tuna, and I couldn’t resist again. The tuna was sensationally good, wrapped with rice and seaweed and such fresh and butter fish. You could spend a lot of money snacking through Kuromon Ichiba Market (黒門市場), but finally we needed some real food, a bigger meal, so we looked up a sushi restaurant in the area on Foursquare.
7:00 Toki Sushi (ときすし) - We arrived just before they opened at 5 pm for the evening, and they kindly invited us in as the restaurant opened. The menu was pretty simple, and I believe they did have both an English and Japanese menu. The staff were all extremely friendly from the beginning. At Toki Sushi (ときすし), I ordered the 12 piece sushi set, which came with 12 pieces of beautiful sushi on a wooden plate. Everything on my plate was delicious - all 12 pieces, and the entire plate cost 1,050 Japanese Yen, which is about $8.71 - I think that was a great deal for that quality and deliciousness of sushi in Osaka.
11:10 Dotonburi (道頓堀) - Happy full of sushi, we walked from the Namb area to one of the most popular and famous areas of Osaka called Dotonburi (道頓堀). We walked around for a bit, but didn’t eat there. Instead, we headed back to Namba and while walking around, we found a grilled pork restuarnat to try.
12:51 Yakiton Restaurant - Tayutayu Nambasennichimaeten (たゆたゆ 難波千日前店) - For our final meal on this epic day of food in Osaka, we were just walking along and found a grilled pork restaurant called Tayutayu Nambasennichimaeten (たゆたゆ 難波千日前店). Everything they served was pork, many of which were yakiton style - grilled pork skewers. But they also had some interesting other items on the menu. The meatballs were extremely good, as were all the different skewers.
Day 2 was an amazing food day in Osaka. There’s so many excellent restaurants in Osaka!

Osaka Nightlife in Japan: TOP 20 Bars & Clubs
This is my Ultimate Osaka nightlife guide featuring the TOP 20 bars & nightclubs which I carefully selected including places such as ADAM (G2+), Captain Kangaroo, Sam & Dave, OWL, The Pink, Giraffe, Space Station and of course the epic Osaka Pub Crawl. Subscribe to my channel ► for weekly videos!
Osaka is a massive city, luckily the nightlife is concentrated in just a few districts to make partying and clubbing in Osaka a lot easier. The most common party districts are Umeda (east of Osaka Station), Amerikamura (the funky town) and Shinsaibashi (the best party district).
Join the Osaka Pub Crawl for just $24 + 20% discount!
(best way to start off you night)
Download my FREE Osaka Nightlife map:
(prices, discounts and photos)
$46 OFF with Airbnb Osaka
Osaka has a ton of bars and nightclubs to chose from that's why spent quite some time in this city to bring the best places in town. If you do not have a lot of time, spend at least one weekend in Shinsaibashi for the ultimate Osaka party experience.
The best possible thing you can do is join the Osaka Pub Crawl on Friday night in Shinsaibashi which covers 3 bars and 1 epic nightclub twice per week. Including places such as DOMUS, LIFE and Sam & Dave. The Osaka Pub Crawl is a great way to make new friends in Osaka quick and learn everything about the latest spots in the city. The Osaka Pub Crawl is ONLY $24 USD for 4 hours of fun, you cannot go wrong!
Book your tickets for the Osaka Pub Crawl:
30% discount on Ninja Pocket Wifi rental, pickup at Airport
- just $6 USD per day!
(works all over Japan)
After the Osaka Pub Crawl you can go your own way and head over to famous nightclubs in Shinsaibashi like Giraffe, ADAM (G2+) and The Pink. These nightclubs are the best places for an epic night out. Entrance can be a bit pricey, often 3500 yen ($33 USD) for men and 1500 yen ($13 USD) for women but these prices do include 1 or 2 drink tickets.
If you make new friends in Osaka, you will eventually be asked to be added to LINE. LINE is 'the' chat app in Japan, so if you do not have DATA on your phone during your stay, make sure to rent a dirt cheap pocket Wifi station at the airport. You can take these pocket Wifi stations all over Japan and allow you to connect many of your devices like your laptop, tablet and phone. It even fits in your back pocket. Luckily, I have a 30% discount on Ninja pocket Wifi stations on Voyagin. I personally rent this device everytime when I visit Japan.
The lesser known area to party in Osaka is Umeda East Steet which includes cool bars like Christon Cafe, Bar Midian (a cool hidden rock bar with great cocktails), the best nightclubs in the Umeda district are OWL Osaka (mostly visited by local Japanese) and Piccadilly, one of the biggest nightclubs in Osaka.
Great bars to start your Osaka nightlife adventure are Captain Kangaroo, a sports-bar located across Osaka Station, they offer happy hours, cheap drinks, snacks, darts and a cozy atmosphere.
Next is Space Station, a nerd friendly bar with games like StarFox and Turtles in Time. Space Station is a bar not to be missed.
Above all, do not leave Osaka without visiting the famous Dotonbori area. Dotonbori is loaded with incredible restaurants and street foods ranging from Takoyaki, Giant Japanese Oysters, Okonomiyaki, Kushikatsu and Osaka Ramen. Dotonbori is truly the heart of Osaka where you'll find the famous Glico running man sign.
In conclusion, the Osaka Nightlife is a underrated gem. The city offers so many great places to party but if you are new to Osaka, do not forget to join The Osaka Pub Crawl for just $24 USD and includes 4 hours of fun at the best places in town, you cannot go wrong!

LUX Japanese STUDIO Apartment Tour with INCREDIBLE VIEWS in Namba Area | Osaka, Japan
My trip to Japan in January of 2019 was one of the most incredible I’ve ever taken. The 12 days I spent exploring the cities of Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, as well as the prefectures just outside of Tokyo, were magical and filled with amazing people, warm memories, and incredible food. I’m so excited that I get to share my Japanese adventures with you guys!
My Film Making Kit ►
After two amazing days seeing the mind-blowing sights and tasting the amazing flavors of Osaka, I decided to show you guys around the Airbnb I called home during my stay! This amazing studio apartment is located in the Namba area in the heart of the city. It’s centrally located near top-notch attractions like Kuromon Market, Dotonbori, and Tsutenkaku Tower, so you can’t find a better place to lay your head, location-wise!
The building is very secure; you have to use your key to open the security gates. From there, I took the elevator up to my unit on the thirteenth floor, which offers some outstanding views of the Osaka skyline!
The unit, 1304, is super modern. Remember, it’s customary to take off your shoes when you enter a home in Japan. Right inside the door is the bathroom, which has a sink and a a closet with some shelves and a small washer/dryer. In a separate part of the bathroom is the bathtub/shower.
Past the bathroom area is the kitchenette, where there is a stovetop and cupboards with mugs, glasses, pots, pans, plates, and utensils inside. There’s also a toaster oven, microwave, and small refrigerator stacked on top of one another.
Next up is the toilet room! As is usually the case in Japan, the toilet is separate from the rest of the bathroom. It’s also very high-tech and has heated seats and a bidet. There’s also a faucet behind the seat where you can wash your hands! On shelves above the toilet are some toilet paper, some wipes, and napkins.
The sleeping area is both small but spacious. There’s a couch with pillows, a small table where I did my work, and a TV stand with a flat-screen TV on top. There’s also a nice, comfortable bed. In front of the bed is a closet with extra pillows and blankets in case it gets cold, as well as an air conditioner/heater.
But the best thing about this place, hands down, is the stunning view of Osaka from my balcony! There are lots of low-rises, high-rises, and skyscrapers right outside. The area is a mix of residential and commercial space and offices. As beautiful as the view is during the day, it’s even more amazing at night when the city is lit up!
I highly recommend this place if you’re coming to Osaka alone or maybe with 1-2 other people. It’s an amazing place to stay!
And that’s it – the complete tour of my lux Japanese studio apartment in Osaka’s Namba area! If you loved it, please give this video a thumbs up, leave me a comment below, and subscribe to my channel for more awesome travel and food content!

25 Things to do in Osaka | Japan Travel Guide ????????
In this Japan travel guide, we are sharing 25 things to do in Osaka!
Affectionately known as Japan’s Kitchen, Osaka was the first stop of our trip to Japan and a wonderful place to eat! We dove straight into the local cuisine visiting markets, street food stalls, and restaurants that required ordering from ticket vending machines.
But our trip to Osaka (大阪市) wasn’t all food. In between all the eating, we also managed to visit towering skyscrapers, hidden temples, and retro gaming arcades - all of them complete surprises.
So if you’re curious about what there is to see and do in this city, stick around and let us show you 25 things to do in Osaka, Japan!

Transportation in Osaka, Japan:
Now a quick note on transportation in Osaka (大阪市). When it comes to getting around the city, subways and trains are your best bet.
We spent our first few days buying one-way tickets and day passes, which in retrospect was a bit of a headache. The easiest thing to do is to get a prepaid card where you can load money as needed.
Osaka’s version of this card is called Icoca, but you can also use Pasmo and Suica in the city.
And that’s a wrap for our Osaka travel guide. We hope you found this video helpful and that it gave you some ideas of things to do in Osaka on your own trip.
