Gibsonton Circus
In this bonus episode of Storybook Railroad, we visited the Gibsonton International Independent Showmen's Club Circus in Riverview, Florida. The circus is a fundraiser to benefit local charities. Everything was done by volunteers! All of the performers, musicians, clowns, box office workers, animal handlers, and even the owners and installers of the tent and seating volunteered their time and talents to bring this circus to the people. We are joined by Robin's mother, Beverly, Robin's daughter, Shannon, and Shannon's young friend, Gabby. Also, Robin's brother, James Peronto, is the drummer in the band.
GIBTOWN - Official Trailer
Gibsonton, Florida, known to the locals as Gibtown, has been a gathering place for carnival and circus showpeople for over four generations. Today one can still glimpse a town where the neighbors are marvels - meet Melvin Burkhart who retired to Florida like many other senior citizens, but will still nail a six-inch spike into his head for anyone who asks politely; Jeanie Tomaini the half-girl who married Al, an 8 foot 4 inch giant; the Parnells, an octogenarian couple who have produced various performing monkey acts for over 40 years. During the off-season, a walk through Gibsonton reveals ferris wheels, vividly painted show fronts and an occasional snoozing elephant or llama, evoking memories of carnival days gone by. The film focuses on intimate personal stories of its aging subjects and captures many of their last documented performances and interviews, preserving this quickly fading facet of American culture for generations to come.

Freaks and Carnies: Sideshow King's Views will Amaze!!!
Carnies get a bad rap and Ward Hall's response will Shock and Amaze you!!!
King of the Sideshows Ward Hall, 84, still owns World of Wonders, a freak and illusion show that tours the country. I saw it at the Minnesota State Fair for EyesLikeCarnivals.com Web site.
He was interviewed at the Super Trade Show Extravaganza at the headquarters of the International Independent Showmen's Association in Gibtown, Florida (aka Carnytown USA).
The interview was conducted in the main barroom of the headquarters, with carousel scenery from Italy over the bar and carnival lighting.
