Swan Lake Reloaded - Tchaikovsky meets Streetdance
Swedish choreographer Fredrik Rydman creates a twenty-first century take on 'Swan Lake', bringing in street dance, contemporary dance, pop music, electro, smartphones and special effects to transform the ballet classic. His 'Swan Lake Reloaded' turns evil sorcerer Rothbart into a pimp and drug dealer, while his swan maidens become heroin-addicted prostitutes. Rydman not only uses the music of Tchaikovsky but also special composed work of a host of Swedish and international pop and rock writers. The show opened in Stockholm 2011 and has been on tour since then. So far sold out seasons in Stockholm, Essen, Berlin, Vienna, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Gothenburg, Hamburg, Paris, Geneva, Linz, Milano, Moscow and London.

MORE ABOUT BRUS TRIO:
BRUS TRIO was borned a late night during a jamsession at the Fasching jazzclub in Stockholm in fall 1981. The two young musicians Arne Forsén and Ulf Åkerhielm from the north of Sweden were new in the Stockholm jazz life and happened to meet the considerable more experienced Gilbert Matthews from South Africa, also a new flower in Stockholm.
From the very first moment there arised a peculiar and tight interplay with inspiration from a lot of diversed music. The varied expressions of jazz share the space with impulses from the classical education of Forsén and Åkerhielm, the african roots of Matthews and folk music from Sweden and the rest of the world.
The music is characterized of an improvisatoric playfulness with a starting point in original compositions of the members. BRUS TRIO has from the start been recognized as a group with an integracy and expression which is totally its own.
BRUS TRIO has also done a several attended projects with Swedish and internationally well recognized artists. Of these projects with the saxophonists John Tchicai, Charles Tyler and Roscoe Mitchell are released on LP/CD.
For about ten years BRUS TRIO did not appear on the music scene, but since 2006 they are back in business. In spring 2008 BRUS TRIO started a new and inspiring project with Fredrik Nordström - saxophone) and Mats Äleklint - trombone. This cooperation resulted in the album Celebration, released in fall 2011.

Alex Da Corte Interview: Dancing Around Delusion
“Art was like sex.” Alex Da Corte is a rising star on the international art scene – his artistic expression a mixture of pop art and a strong personal story. We spent a day with him in his neighborhood in Philadelphia to talk about his creative journey.
Da Corte started out drawing cartoon figures, his early main goal being to get to work for Disney. He was brought up Roman Catholic and was exposed mainly to classical religious art. However, this changed when he went to New York and the “bubble” burst: “When I realized that there was something else I could do to express a truer self or my truer desires, I went after it.” He came to terms with a whole new world of art and simultaneously with his own sexuality – art became a representation of sex: “Ketchup is red, wet, moving and passionate.”
In Alex Da Corte’s artwork an Ikea lamp can represent himself just like a good friend can be represented by a stuffed animal: “Objects as stand-ins for people then became a way for me to understand that objects are just another kind of language that we can pair together to create these sentences that turn into poetry.”
“I’m like a sponge. I’m willing to absorb as much as I need and get rid of what I don’t.” Da Corte likes to think that he doesn’t have a certain taste, but rather that it is constantly changing. He puts unlikely things together and creates his own sense of reality: “Being a creator or some sort of inventor of things, you have to be willing to go into a place of delusion, because there’s not always a function or reason for what we do. We have to put aside logic sometimes in order to go out into the weirder parts of our brains. My work is about dancing around that delusion.”
Alex da Corte (b. 1981 in New Jersey) is an American artist who lived in Venezuela until he was eight and now lives and works in Philadelphia. Da Corte received his BFA from the University of the Arts and his MFA from Yale University in 2010. He has had solo shows and presentations at prominent venues such as the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; Carl Kostyal, Stockholm; David Risley Gallery, Copenhagen; Artspeak, Vancouver; Mother’s Tankstation, Dublin and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Portland, Maine. Moreover, his work has been shown at MoMA PS1 and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2012, Da Corte was named a Pew Fellow in the Arts by the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage, Philadelphia. Written by Max Vitali
Chapters by NK is a concept created by Carl Rapp & Calle Liljendahl. It is a non-profit school collaboration between Beckmans College of Design and NK (Nordiska Kompagniet) in Stockholm, Sweden. The brief was to create a fictional label for NK, an exclusive warehouse in Stockholm. Chapters by NK invites fashion designers to produce a limited collection to be produced and sold exclusively at NK. Each collection is personified into a character and set to life in its own chapter. The chapters are not dependent on each other story wise. Each Chapter has its own creative team.
CHAPTERS by NK Concept:
Joseph Sachs, the founder of NK, envisioned NK as a stage for contemporary life. He wanted to bring the world to Sweden, and Sweden to the world. We want to build on this vision. Chapters by NK selectively invites Swedish and international fashion designers to create a unique, limited collection for NK. Each collection is presented by a creative team for visual communication. Each designer collection is personified by one character. This character is given a separate chapter that plays a part in the overall story of Chapters by NK. We have produced the first three chapters of Chapters by NK.

Afro Native Dancer Performing for A Tribe Called Red Tour
Ausben Jordan Performing for A Tribe Called Red. Ausben Dwayne Spottedeagle also known as his performance persona “King Aus,” descends from Creole/Tu' Tssn Nde band of The Lipan Apache of Texas.
CONNECT WITH US
Known more for being a worldwide performer in his scene, he is also an avid Native rights activist and cultural proponent of his Lipan Apache tribal history. His career paths have taken him globally, but his heart always remains in Native America. Currently Ausben has been using his talents to spread his love of dance with the masses in Europe.
Through his dance competitions, and vying for International awards, he has always represented himself as Black Native man of the Lipan Apache. All throughout his life he has kept his metaphoric dance with the traditional and the contemporary in sync. Ausben holds a background in professional dance with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Stephenʼs College in Columbia Missouri, this has given him the prestige of teaching his love to troubled youth and international audiences throughout northern, and eastern Europe. Currently residing in Stockholm Sweden, Ausben has developed his choreographer career into a cultural exchange through the oldest form of ethno communication, music and dance. Taking cues from his roots as a Northern Men's Traditional powwow dancer and representing Lipan Apache style war dances. He continues to show his Native pride through the rhythms of sustaining his culture.
Ausben describes some of his greatest influences as being the force that keeps him alive, much of that force being the strong bloodline of his Black and Native ancestors. The blend of his cultures keep his feet on the warrior dancers path of greatness. Ausben acknowledges the congruency between his pass and present as, “my traditional dance influenced my contemporary dance because it lets me know that every step I take has a spiritual meaning connected to a higher life force.” the connections between his dance career and tribal culture is basic to the cell memory that is inherent to all of his performances. Ausben honors both sides of his ancestors through the musical and dance projects he has lent his talents to like his time spent in, The Universal Zulu Nation, Iconic House Of Ultra Omni, The Ivy League dance crew, and Imperial House of Waacking.
Within the underground dance world this has given him such opportunities as working with well known performers and musical icons such as Madonna, and Run DMC. He has performed on and off Broadway in showcases such as Tarzan, and West Side Story (Stockholm). While creating his career on an international stage he remembers that his dance steps did not begin with himself but through a long rhythmical history handed down in a indigenous drum beat pulsating like the heart of mother earth. Ausben finds solace and inspiration much like his ancestors did through the sacred movements of dance. “I know with my dance I can express every feeling that can't be spoken.”
“It relates to the tribal world because without the heart beat of the drum or the praises sung by the singers. The dances would be empty steps.”
Whether Ausben is performing on the a Broadway stage or on the North American Powwow trail, he continues to hold strong to being a Black Native man in the Twenty First Century. Ausbenʼs future endeavors are limitless but he wishes to return back to Native communities to inspire youth through the creative art forms that have taken him worldwide. He believes the talent of Native America is yet to be discovered by the international world, and has yet to take a rightful place amongst the many international performers, that have long sought inspiration from it.
