Day 6 Creston BC to Sandpoint Idaho riding directions. WaCanId Ride is constantly trying to make improvements for the riders enjoyment and safety while on the ride. Detailed directions, for every day are given with each rider packet. Signage is always discussed and fine tuned at meetings. Personally I like a visual to go along with the above. Selkirk Loop Bicycle Trip
In the fall of 2016 we rode the Selkirk Loop starting in Sandpoint, Idaho heading north into Canada, riding a long a 66 mile lake, catching the ferry across the northern end of the lake. The eight day bike ride stopped in the British Columbia towns of Bonners Ferry, Creston, Boswell, Nelson, Salmo, and into Metaline, Washington to Priest River, Idaho and back to Sandpoint. It was an eight day trip averaging 35-40 miles per day with one long day of 76 miles which was over 9 hours on the bike. We stayed at B & B's, motels, hotels, and cabins prearranged beforehand. We rode over 300 miles with longer less traffic routes.

CRUZIN' CORVETTES FALL TOUR 2015 - SELKIRK LOOP
The Cruzin' Corvettes Club of Spokane, Washington takes the Selkirk
Loop for the Fall Tour of 2015. We take the Kootenay Lake Ferry to
Balfour, plunge into the Ainsworth Hot Springs, visit Fletcher Falls,
and enjoy our stay at the Kaslo Hotel Saturday night. Sunday morning we
visit the SS Moyie paddlewheel steamer, and then tour to New Denver on
Slocan Lake. A dinner stop in Nelson, B.C. ends the tour and we are
home in Spokane by Sunday night.
17,000 acre wetland habitat in southeastern BC, Canada
Established by Provincial Legislation in 1968 under the Creston Valley Wildlife Act, the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area (CVWMA) consists of 7,000 hectares (17,000 acres) of provincial land. It contains one lake (1,500 ha or 3,700 acres) and 17 marshes plus a major river and adjoining mountain slopes. Located on the
Pacific Flyway, the marshes form a valuable link in a chain of wetlands stretching from the Arctic Ocean to California.
The CVWMA is a rich and biologically diverse area. Over 286 species of birds, 57 species of mammals and 29 species of fish, reptiles and amphibians call the area home. Some of these are species at risk - endangered, threatened, vulnerable or of special concern - at a provincial and/or federal level.
In 1994, it was designated as an internationally significant wetland (Ramsar Site). The CVWMA is also recognized as an Important Bird Area by Birdlife International, because it regularly supports over 100,000 water birds during migration periods, and as an Important Amphibian and Reptile Area by the Canadian Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Network .
The area is managed for conservation and natural species diversity through active habitat and wildlife management, research and education. The wetland is an important destination in the migration of Tundra Swans and Greater White-fronted Geese and a vast array of waterfowl.
Birdwatchers marvel at the 6 species of grebes, large numbers of Great Blue Herons, the rare Forsters Terns which breed no where else in BC and a thriving Osprey population.
The CVWMA attracts over 35,000 visitors per year from around the world. As part of the International Selkirk Loop and the Two Nation Birding Vacation, a birding and ecotourism experience, the CVWMA is a major destination and attraction for people traveling through southeastern BC. With an amazing diversity of wildlife, spectacular scenery, a bounty of recreational opportunities and a Wildlife Interpretation Centre offering educational programming and special events, the CVWMA is a truly unique and magical place to visit. The CVWMA was recently chosen as a 2009 Rand McNally Best of the Road® Editors Pick and featured in the 2009 Rand McNally Road Atlas.
The Wildlife Interpretation Centre, located 11 kilometers west of Creston on Hwy 3, is open May to October and offers a variety of programs and events. Visitors and students from BC, Alberta, Western USA and Europe make this wetland site and Interpretation Centre a destination for pleasure, education and conservation research. The
Centre offers a desirable visitor experience featuring:
guided field excursions (canoe & walking tours), experience-based curriculum-matched educational programs, educational exhibits, secure wildlife viewing decks & towers, science lab activities, lecture & video presentations, visitor services (washrooms, destination desk, tour operation, natural history gift shop, snack bar &
picnic shelter) and conference space.
Year round trail access to over 32 kilometers of trails allows visitors to access the area by hiking, biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Self-guided walking trails, covered multi level viewing towers and boardwalk trails provide the ideal means to explore the area.
The CVWMA is a not-for-profit provincial crown agency with charitable status and contributions are gratefully accepted to help us manage the area for wildlife and habitat as well as for recreational and educational uses.

Cranbrook Visit
In May of 2019, Patti and I visited our daughter Mandy and her partner Jeff at their home in Cranbrook, BC. This little video is a glimpse of the amazing time we had hanging out with them for a few days. Time spent hiking, having coffee on the patio in the morning, working in Mandy's garden, an amazing walk on the Bull River and burgers at the Bull River Inn, ice cream cones after an afternoon walk and just hanging out and talking. The song for the video is called Time, written by Dean Brody ©2016. The photos were taken by myself and Mandy.
BC Highway 6 Westbound in Winter - part 1 of 5 - time lapse
This series of videos follows Highway 6 in South-Central British Columbia.
This highway begins at the U.S. border and meanders through a series of valleys and over a mountain range. A portion of the highway is also part of International Selkirk Loop - a series of connected highways that form a circuit through the Selkirk mountains.
This video begins just a North of the U.S. border and follows the highway North. After only a few kilometers, the highway merges with the Crowsnest Highway, Highway 3, until the town of Salmo.
From Salmo, the highway continues Northward past the Whitewater Ski Resort until reaching the City of Nelson.
This was filmed on March 20, 2013.
