Turismo Peruvian Colca Trails , Urus Islands in the Sacred Lake, Titicaca
The Uros descend from a millennial etnic group that, according to legends, were the pukinas who speak Uro or Pukina language. Uros used to say that they have black blood because they did not feel the cold. Also they call themselves Lupihaques (Sons of The Sun). Nowadays, Uros do not speak the Uro language, nor practice their old beliefs but keep some old customs.
The purpose of the island settlements was originally defensive, and if a threat arose they could be moved. The largest island retains a watchtower almost entirely constructed of reeds.
The Uros traded with the Aymara tribe on the mainland, intermarrying with them and eventually abandoning the Uro language for that of the Aymara. About 500 years ago they lost their original language. When conquered by the Inca empire, they had to pay taxes to them, and often were made slaves.
The Uros use bundles of dried totora reeds to make reed boats (balsas mats), and to make the islands themselves.
The larger islands house about ten families, while smaller ones, only about thirty meters wide, house only two or three.
The islets are made of totora reeds, which grow in the lake. The dense roots that the plants develop and interweave form a natural layer called Khili (about one to two meters thick) that support the islands. They are anchored with ropes attached to sticks driven into the bottom of the lake. The reeds at the bottoms of the islands rot away fairly quickly, so new reeds are added to the top constantly, about every three months; this is what makes it exciting for tourists when walking on the island. This is especially important in the rainy season when the reeds rot much faster. The islands last about thirty years.
The Uros islands at 3810 meters above sea level are just five kilometers west from Puno port. Around 2,000 descendants of the Uros were counted in the 1997 census although only a few hundred still live on and maintain the islands; most have moved to the mainland. The Uros also bury their dead on the mainland in special cemeteries.
Food is cooked with fires placed on piles of stones. To relieve themselves, tiny 'outhouse' islands are near the main islands. The ground root absorbs the waste.
We invite you to visit this floating islands. Welcome!!!

Situated on the border between Peru and Bolivia is South America's largest and highest navigable lake. Embark on an unforgettable boat journey to explore the magnificent scenery and fascinating life on and around the tranquil lake. Visit the floating islands of the Uros Indians who still practice the old traditions of fishing, bird trapping and living on tortora reeds for their boats, houses and food.

Isla de Uros, Puno -PERU
The Uro Islands are floating islands made of reed, situated in Lake Titicaca on the Peruvian Altiplano. We visited Isla de Uros and the locals, we took part in a presentation and we went into their houses.
These islands are made from tortora rushes, as are the houses on them and the residents' boats. part of the tortora can even be eaten! The people of the Uros Islands who predate the Incas speak the Aymara language. it is thought that they may have fled to the islands to escape hostile tribes, including the Incas. The islands can, of course, be moved and have been in fairly recent years because of the Shining Path revolutionary movement in Peru. it was expected that they would be safer nearer to the mainland. Tourism is now important to the islands' economy.
Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Peru 2019
Backpacking (well, more like glam-packing) the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Peru in May of 2019. We were guided by JJ and Samuel with Llama Path. A trip to remember for sure! Met a lot of great people and experienced the beauty of the Andes.

A day visiting the floating islands of Uros on Lake Titicaca by its Peruvian side and living with the natives of the island of Amantani. Although it is a very touristy place the experience of being on a floating island is unique and worth knowing your lifestyle, how they organize the Uros communities, as constructed based floating islands tora or reeds. More remote and still on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca's Amantani Island, where you can live with the indigenous communities that inhabit the island three hours by boat from Puno. At Lake Titicaca but the Bolivian side is the Island of the Sun (Inti) and Moon Island (raimi) which states that the Inca culture was born.

Andes Skate Scene w/ Madars Apse, Milton Martinez & Co | THE INCA TRAIL Part 2
Join a skate trip to discover the unique spots and local skaters connected by the ancient Inca road system linking modern-day Peru and Bolivia!
Rocking with the local skate scene nearly 4km above sea level; Milton Martinez, Thaynan Costa, Angelo Caro and Madars Apse find a truly wild skatepark in the Andes.
Having skated the challenging and occasionally dangerous streets of Lima and Cusco, and later hiked high into the Andean mountains to visit Machu Picchu, our trip now swung due southwards through the mountain tops until we reached the Peruvian city of Puno.
