BBC Scotland - QM2 visit to Greenock Cruise Terminal
BBC Scotland footage of the QM2 visiting Greenock Cruise Terminal with an interview from Peel Ports Andrew Hemphill.
QE2 Visual Inspection (May2015) #BringQE2Home
Background: The former Cunard Cruise Liner the Queen Elizabeth2 provided Inverclyde with massive employment opportunities during her construction, now we learn that she is sitting idle, rusting, redundant in Port Rashid, Dubai and might even be sold for scrap value. Some have even estimated her value to be only £3Million pounds in todays climate.
BrainFart: Inverclyde Council should immediately put forward proposals to secure the vessel from it's desert dock and arrange towage to the Great Harbour/Inchinnan Dock in Greenock. A fundraiser aimed at previous crew, skippers or retired/serving Royal Naval staff would provide a willing 'transportation crew'. (Could MoD or Serco pull strings and provide a tug escort?!? Anyone on friendly terms with Faslane Flag Officer?) Once alongside, Great Harbour would become her permanent berth.
Stage 1: Establish an army of apprenticeships from those interested in a career in Welding, Construction, Electrical, Mechanical, Painting, Joinery, Carpet Fitters, etc etc Incorporate an Official QE2 Supporters Club made for ex-engineers, crew, supporters and former passengers. Bookings can be made for work parties as an alternative holiday for retired individuals who have an affinity for the ship or could lend knowledge of her original layout, design & presentation. Bringing the QE2 back to her original state of a luxury hotel.
Stage 2: Dockside regeneration (proper regeneration, not kid-on Fawcett-fuckups). Permanently moor QE2 at the back of Pottery Street Recycling Centre within the Great Harbour dock. There's a nice double carriageway going nowhere at the moment, how about having the QE2 as the gateway to the waterfront? QE2 provides a hotel base for holiday-makers and makes the ideal landing point for day-breaks to Loch Lomond, Edinburgh, Argyll & Bute, etc. At the quayside we could have an exhibition of maritime heritage including the Cunard Line and homage to Clyde-based shipbuilding.
Stage 3: Create an Inverclyde Watersports Centre managed & facilitated by the local Sea Cadets at Great Harbour alongside the QE2 berth. The Centre could support leisure industry with boat hire, jetski hire, diving lessons, experience days, etc as well as fully qualified RYA centre of excellence. Could there be any tie-up with the Maritime College of Glasgow?!?
Inverclyde Council are woefully inadequate when discussing regeneration plans for the area and we need a massive gesture, a huge kickstart to workforce..... Why shouldn't we try the leisure sector and make Inverclyde the new West of Scotland Resort?!?
We've tried everything else and everyone's kinda sick of stupid 'artistic impressions' that go nowhere.
Time to think big, have some vision... Don't let it be our generation that people look back on and think... what the fuck where that lot doing pissing about with street sculptures. Remember it was only a few weeks ago we spent nearly £2m saving the Beacon Theatre.... £3m for QE2 (exc. transport)

The Granny Kempock Stone, Gourock, Inverclyde
The Granny Kempock Stone has several legends linked with it such as bringing luck to newly weds, protecting sailors from storms and moving round in its socket every night. In 1662 Mary Lamont was executed for dancing round the stone on a Sunday to create a spell that would sink ships. The word 'pock' may refer to a mythical mischievous woodland spirit as in 'Puck' of Midsummer Night's Dream.

Sad Day - First Withdrawn Class 314s pass Argyle Street
In this video, we see the first Class 314s that have been withdrawn from service (numbers 207 and 213) pass Argyle Street station working from Corkerhill depot to Yoker C.S where they will be warm stored
The Class 314s are starting to be withdrawn as more Class 385s are entering service and allowing Class 380s move back to Inverclyde and allowing the Class 314s to be retired.
It is a sad day as the Class 314 has served the Glasgow area for 39 years, they operated services around the North Clyde lines, Cathcart Circle and latterly in their life, they did the electric service to Paisley Canal
They will be missed but at least we still have 13 units left in service for now
Note: 314212 was withdrawn as well and was moved to Yoker later that evening

STORYLINE:
Residents of the village of Trimley, near the port of Felixstowe, were in shock on Monday as police confirmed they had arrested a 37-year-old man from the village on suspicion of murdering five women who worked as prostitutes in eastern England.
Police cordoned off a group of houses in Trimley, apparently at the scene of the arrest.
News reports identified the suspect as 37-year-old Tom Stephens, who was quoted in the Sunday Mirror newspaper (on 17 December) as saying he knew all five women, and that he had been interviewed four times under caution, meaning he was regarded as a potential suspect, by police.
In the village pub, one woman recalled having seen Stephens acting suspiciously in the pub car park on Friday night.
It was just one of those moments when you take a quick glance and you don't really take much in at the time. But he looked very disturbed, that's all I can tell you really. said Lisa Jopling.
The Landlady of the Hand In Hand pub said the whole village was in shock to learn of the arrest of a man so close to home.
It puts you on edge a little bit to know that it was getting closer to home in Levington and we've all been a bit scared since then. But now it's right on the doorstep. said landlady, Sheryl McGeoun.
Neighbour John Docherty described Stephens as a regular guy.
I never noticed anything different about him, Docherty said.
Trimley is eight miles (13 kilometres) southeast of Ipswich, where all five of the women were known to work as prostitutes.
Their naked bodies were found dumped in rural areas near Ipswich over a ten day period.
