Trains at Inverkeithing, FCL - 21/8/18
Welcome to the latest episode of Big Trip! Today I am at Inverkeithing located on the Fife Circle Line where services are seen by Scotrail, London North Eastern Railway and CrossCountry.
This was a nice enough station but lacked a lot in terms of vantages. The station is a very small yet very busy one and serves a frequent service into Edinburgh and beyond. The station also serves as having a direct link to London Kings Cross and also the South of England as LNER and XC do also stop here with LNER being the more frequent. The view going Northbound was nicer, with a view of the nearby junction which I believe takes you on a loop around before joining back up near Kirkcaldy. Inverkeithing I would recommend, it's a lovely station.

2G13 South Gyle to Inverkeithing behind a Class 68 in 360º (View in 4K)
A last-minute trip behind 68033 on the Fife Circular over the Forth Bridge. Having just arrived at Haymarket on a service from Aberdeen I literally ran across the platform and jumped onto this service which was just about to leave. I had to walk through the train to get to the front window after asking the guard where it was going so I missed the part past Haymarket sadly. But, we travel from South Gyle, through Edinburgh Gateway and stopping at Dalmeny station, before traveling over the Forth Railway bridge and stopping at North Queensferry. From there it's a quick trip to Inverkeithing where I get off and wait for the other 68 hauled Fife Circular heading for Edinburgh.

Inverkeithing is a town and a royal burgh in Fife, Scotland, located on the Firth of Forth. The port town was given burgh status by King David I of Scotland (1124–53) in the 12th century and is situated about 9 miles (15 km) north from Edinburgh Airport and about 4 miles from the centre of Dunfermline. Modern Inverkeithing is almost continuous with Rosyth and Dalgety Bay. Inverkeithing is a developing town and has many new housing sites including one next to the town's railway station.

Cardenden is a Scottish town located on the South bank of the River Ore in the parish of Auchterderran, Fife. It is approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) North-West of Kirkcaldy. Cardenden was named in 1848 by the Edinburgh and Northern Railway for its new railway station.

The Fife Circle is the local rail service north from Edinburgh. It links towns of south Fife and the coastal towns along the Firth of Forth before heading to Edinburgh.[1] Operationally, the service is not strictly a circle route, but, rather, a point to point service that reverses at the Edinburgh end, and has a large bi-directional balloon loop at the Fife end.

British Rail Class 67 - The Class 67 locomotives are a class of Bo-Bo diesel electric mainline locomotives which were built for the English, Welsh and Scottish Railway between 1999 to 2000 by Alstom at Meinfesa in Valencia, Spain with drive components (engine and transmission) from General Motors Diesel. EMD's designation for this locomotive type is JT 42HW-HS.
Thirty locomotives were ordered in a £45million contract split between Alstom and General Motors for use by the English, Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS) as Class 47 replacements for use on high-speed mail trains and passenger trains. The locomotives were obtained on a 15 year lease from Angel Trains.
The locomotives are able to supply electric head end power for passenger train heating and air-conditioning, and are equipped for buffer and screw coupling and also coupling via a buckeye coupler attached on a swing arm mount.
High speed running tests were undertaken with 67002 starting at Alstom's facility at La Sagra (Toledo, Spain) and running on the standard gauge Madrid-Toledo high-speed rail line, a top speed of 143 miles per hour (230 km/h) was obtained.
The first locomotive to be delivered was 67003, which arrived in October 1999. Initially plans were for a rapid acceptance into service, but problems with the locomotives being slightly out of loading gauge caused delays. Acceptance trials began in December, and all 30 units had been delivered to the UK by early 2000.
The high axle load of the locomotive caused an initial speed restriction to 110 mph (177km/h) and modifications to the bogies were required; locomotive 67023 was passed for 125 mph (201 km/h) running in July 2001, all 30 units had been modified by June 2003.
Initially the class were used primarily on mail trains. In June 2003 EWS lost the Royal Mail mail train contract, with services diminishing to complete cessation in March 2004.
The locomotives have since been used by ScotRail on the Caledonian Sleeper on non electrified lines north of Edinburgh, as Thunderbird rescue locomotives for failed trains on the ECML, on some freight trains, and are hire for use on chartered tourist trains. Two units were assigned to, and received special liveries for use with the Royal Train from 2003, a third unit had a commemorative jubilee livery applied for use with the Royal Train during the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II in 2012.
The locomotives were initially painted in EWS's maroon and yellow livery. In 2003 67005 and 67006 replaced the two previous Class 47 locomotives hauling the Royal Train. These were repainted in the Royal Claret colour, and named Queen's Messenger and Royal Sovereign in February 2004 and February 2005, respectively.
