Scotland's Highlands
Check your local public television station for this Rick Steves’ Europe episode or watch it on The Highlands stoke kilted dreams of Scotland…where legends of Bonnie Prince Charlie swirl around lonely castles. We visit the Weeping Glen of Glencoe, bustling Inverness, and the battlefield at Culloden. Then we'll make a pilgrimage to the spiritual capital of a major clan, and go prehistoric at Stone Age burial grounds and Iron Age island forts. Venturing along the Caledonian Canal and watching for Nessie at Loch Ness, we work up an appetite for modern Scottish cuisine and enjoy traditional folk music.

City Snapshot: Inverness in Summer
Ah, Inverness. A city of culture and history mixed with a big dose of Highland charm. With its fabulous location astride the River Ness, Inverness is an absolutely perfect destination for summer city breaks.
An array of Inverness attractions awaits, from the beautifully ornate Inverness Cathedral, to the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, which explores the fascinating history, geology and archaeology of the Highlands. Go even further back in time and explore the well-preserved Bronze Age cemetery at Clava Cairns, which is thought to be around 4,000 years old.
Walk or cycle along the banks of the river, or take a boat trip along Loch Ness and try and spot Scotland’s favourite monster, Nessie!
Browse for a unique purchase at the Victorian Market and sample some of the city’s fine dining options, before spending a night out at Eden Court, which has a busy programme of performances.
Grab your wellies and dance the night away at a music festival. Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival promises a weekend to remember, every August. One thing is for sure, you won’t be short of things to do in Inverness!

SCOTLAND, EXPLORING beautiful and historic INVERNESS ????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go for a walking tour of Inverness, one of Scotland's most beautiful cities. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com. Inverness is a city on Scotland’s northeast coast, where the River Ness meets the Moray Firth. It's the largest city and the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands.
Scotland, the U.K.’s northernmost country, is a land of mountain wildernesses such as the Cairngorms and Northwest Highlands, interspersed with glacial glens (valleys) and lochs (lakes). Its major cities are Edinburgh, the capital, with its iconic hilltop castle, and Glasgow, famed for its vibrant cultural scene. Scotland is also famous for golf, the game first played at the Old Course at St Andrews in the 1400s.

Inverness, Scotland.
Inverness means Mouth of the River Ness and is regarded as the capital of the highlands of Scotland. The thriving city is crowned by a pink crenellated castle, and there are many attractions around the city, including the famous Culloden battlefield and also schools of dolphins in the nearby Mory Firth.

Undiscovererd magic Scotland
Scotland is steeped in some of the most intriguing history to be found.
Many times its hard to separate the mythical from fact, but together they create the bases for a bounty of folklore and historical characters.
The Nc 500 starts from Stirling,
But first we visit the OLD KIRK LOGIE
One of the oldest church and cemetery in Scotland,
LOGIE OLD KIRK
The Parish of Logie is among the oldest in Scotland, being established during the reign of King David I from 1124 to 1153.
The first church serving the parish was dedicated to St Serf and dates back at least as far as 1183, when it was referred to in a charter by Bishop Simon of Dunblane as being the property of the monastery in North Berwick. Records suggest that this first church was replaced by another in 1380
Culloden Battlefield
One of the things that really impressed me was our visit to Culloden Battlefield.
Especially a magical moment was when a member of the MacLean clan played a tribute to all who were killed during the Battle of Culloden.
Balnuaran of Clava
The Clava Cairns – or more correctly Balnuaran of Clava – is one of the best preserved Bronze Age burial sites in Scotland.
There are three cairns here, two with passage ways aligned to the Midwinter sunset, and all with more subtle features, incorporated to reflect the importance of the South-west horizon.
