History of Toll Roads in Queensland Infomercial (1999) Betacam - Queensland Transport
In 1999, Queensland Transport developed a short, 15-minute infomercial covering the first uses of toll roads in Queensland and how the toll road has evolved. We also learn about why tolls road exist and what their advantages are.
This video touches on the population of Queensland and how Queensland Transport helps the population thrive as tourism, agriculture, industry and commerce continue to boost our economy.
In 1931, Indooroopilly Toll Bridge ltd. was formed, finishing the single-span steel suspension bridge in 1936.
Hornibrook Highway Bridge was also announced in 1931, incorporating 99 spans of timber to help motorists cross Bramble Bay between Sandgate and Redcliffe. The Hornibrook Highway Bridge collected tolls between 1935 and 1975 fulfilling it's 40 year franchise contract. At that point, it's weathered wooden planks were carrying 16000 cars everyday.
The Story bridge in Brisbane was also opened as a toll bridge, collecting 6p per car that travelled across it. In 1947 it become a propety of the Brisbane City Council and the toll was removed. Discover more about the story bridge and its construction here:
These bridges exist thanks to provisions outlined in the Tolls on Privately Constructed Road Traffic Facilities Act of 1931 (22 Geo. 5 no. 14). Allowing private capital and investment to build infrastructure beyond the capacity of what the Government could fund.

Niggles:
The only recent problem is that the car has been stood and as a result the battery didn't have enough to start the car. So in my great wisdom I tried to boost it off cables with a 2011 Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 but I think the extra voltage gave the 47 year old fuse box a heart attack. It'll be an easy fix for someone that knows what they are looking at. I am the least mechanical-type person you will ever encounter. It's probably a 50p fuse that has gone somewhere. I have added a link with a video showing the car running etc though for peace of mind. Also it shows around the car, in the boot, engine bay etc. so you can have a good look at her. Bearing this in mind you will need to trailer/tow her away unless you know what the problem is and you can get her started here (you are welcome to use my tools, garage etc as I am that confident you will not find anything sinister)
Sat Nav, Power steering, Electric heated seats, Cruise control, Bluetooth, Electric windows. She has none of them ;-) But what you do get instead is a BRITISH Motoring Icon that will make you smile every time you look at her and remember just how good we could build cars back then.
If you want a project car then this is not the car for you.
Cars like this are hard to find. She will be a suond investment for the future.
