The (new) City of Ipswich
Welcome to the City of Ipswich. Ipswich is Queensland’s fastest growing city and has been awarded as one of Australia’s smartest cities.
Advancing from the geographic centre of a rapidly developing region of 3 million people, Ipswich profits in its connectivity to all major business districts, airports, seaports, and arterials in South East Queensland. Its connectivity and commitment to building a positive future has attracted unrivalled government and industry investment, innovation, and development over recent years. Today it is home to nearly 200,000 people with around 100 new residents moving in every week.
And as the Queensland’s oldest provincial city, that modern growth is founded in a rich and meaningful history, there are over 6,000 heritage sites across Ipswich which continue to inspire the liveability of the city. Ipswich is a place where Australia’s past meets its future, where traditional values meet bold new thinking, and where lifestyle choice meets unrivalled opportunity.

Nerima Gardens
Tucked away in Ipswich's gracious and historical Queens Park is Nerima Gardens - Japanese gardens designed in consultation with Ipswich's Japanese sister city, Nerima. This idyllic retreat is a wonderful way to wind down your visit to Queens Park or take a break between enjoying its other numerous attractions.
The picture-perfect self-contained gardens sit behind the historic caretaker's cottage and feature a series of winding paths through fir trees and Australian native plants - some of which are indigenous to Ipswich. There, you'll really appreciate the serenity and aesthetic beauty of the pretty flowers, and experience a model traditional Japanese tea house and a small verandah overlooking a stream. There are also boardwalks over an ornamental lake where you can feel the tranquillity of being serenaded by constant running water.
Nerima's design takes the visitor on a journey of discovery, with the lower section portraying the ocean and Moreton Bay, while the upper area represents the Ipswich region with its undulating landscape, vegetation and river.
Nerima Gardens is a welcome and relaxing haven along with Queens Park's children's playground, the Ipswich Nature Centre, Queens Park Café and the Environmental Education Centre.
