Dust storm Alice Springs OZ Sep 22, 08
I was at work when it happened. Started with heavy rain and strong wind which created lots of damages in town (the fence on the left of the screen has just been ripped off by the wind about 10 minutes before I grabbed the camera to shoot this video)
I was actually more excited than terrified to experienced this. However, the not-so-fun part was that we lost the power at our house about 8 hours after that, as well as many parts of town. I was told that some people may not have the power back on until tomorrow night!
PS: Sorry for my funny accent and bad English. :p
Alice Desert Festival 2012
The Alice Desert Festival is Central Australia's premier arts and cultural festival, celebrating the desert and its rich cultural landscape.
Every September for the last 11 years, the Alice Desert Festival (ADF) has enlivened and transformed Alice Springs with a bold cultural celebration based on the highest quality art and big ideas. More than any other cultural event, the Alice Desert Festival defines the region's personality and artistic spirit.
The Festival will open on 10th of August and the peak season starts on 7th September with the HUB weekend -- a unique showcase of local and national music, dance and culture that attracts over 10,000 people. The peak Festival period will continue for ten days of ticketed and free events.
The program is kaleidoscopic in its diversity, from cabaret to the Bush Bands Bash to the Wearable Art Awards; from contemporary dance to family programs to traditional Indigenous arts. With classical music, culinary programs, literature and theatre, the Festival has something for everyone!
The program comprises around 40 performances and over 60 events performed by over 1,000 artists in at least 20 venues each year. In all, the Festival attracts an audience of over 50,000.
Inclusive programming, a broad range of free events and accessible pricing policies for the ticketed shows means that the Alice Desert Festival is open to all, welcoming Central Australians and visitors.
Ancestral Modern: Australian Aboriginal Art from the Kaplan & Levi Collection
Ancestral Modern features contemporary painting and sculpture by Australian Aboriginal artists and celebrates a renaissance in the world's oldest continuous artistic tradition. In an effort to share their ancient culture with the wider world, indigenous Australian artists have translated traditional art forms such as rock and body painting to large, colorful canvases and intricately patterned bark strips and sculptures bearing symbols that communicate beliefs and histories, laws and rituals, and a profound connection to the land. On view at the Blanton Museum of Art at The University of Texas at Austin from June 3 - September 9, 2018.
This exhibition is organized by the American Federation of Arts and the Seattle Art Museum. It was made possible by the generosity of Mrs. Donald M. Cox, the Wolfensohn Family Foundation, and an anonymous donor.
Support for this exhibition at the Blanton is provided in part by Ellen and David Berman.
