With a population barely reaching 2000 inhabitant and a quiet tourist industry Iriomote is for those who really want to get away.

Fantastic Places in Cool Japan :
Nearly 90% of the island is covered by subtropical jungle “Iriomote Island”. It is known for its rare animals and plants, including the natural monument Iriomote Yamaneko. The rich natural environment that seems to have forgotten evolution is also called “Oriental Galapagos”. The bold and mysterious nature and the activities it brings are unique.
The first tourist spot on Iriomote Island to introduce is “Nakama River”. The most popular tourist spot on Iriomote Island is the Nakagawa River. As “Nakama River Natural Reserve”, the mangrove forests of the Nakama River basin are designated as national natural monuments.

OKINAWA TRIP pt. 2 - Iriomote Island
I left the main island of Okinawa behind for the Yaeyama Islands. I was staying on Ishigaki but decided to take a day trip over to Iriomote Island.
Iriomote Island is basically one big jungle. I took a jungle river cruise and hiked to Maryudo Falls. We also took a water buffalo cart over to Yubu Island (a small island very close to Iriomote). Yubu Island is like one big botanical garden. I very different feel from Iriomote's jungle.

To avoid the colder temperatures in Tokyo, we went to Okinawa for a long weekend. We stayed at one of the most southern islands of Okinawa: Iriomote Island. The weather was perfect to do a lot of fun activities: kayaking on the Nakama river through the largest mangrove forest of Japan, chilling on wasure ishi beach, and cycling around the famous Taketomi Island. On Taketomi we watched the authentic ox-cars full of tourists slowly walking by, and visited all the beaches: Nishi ambashi (West Pier), Kondoi Beach, and Kaiji Beach (Star sand beach). We witnessed beautiful beach sunsets near our hotel, and the bluest water in Okinawa at Kabira Bay... Such an amazing trip! We highly recommend it!

This is one of the places where hasn't really known by western people. Hope it will help you when you have no idea where to travel in Japan.
Iriomote (西表島), Japan (4K)
Iriomote Island (西表島, Iriomotejima) is Okinawa's second largest island. Largely undeveloped, nearly 90 percent of the island is covered by dense jungle and mangrove forests, much of which makes up the Iriomote National Park (Source Japan-guide.com).
It is Amazon rain Forest of Japan. It is perfect for hiking, kayaking, and snorkeling/diving. Diving is something out of the world!

Iriomote Island 2019
Iriomote island is a landscape and wildlife photographers dream location. We went in search of the Milky Way arching over jungle waterfalls, venomous snakes and more. We were not disappointed.
Being the second largest landmass in the Okinawa prefecture with the least amount of human population means lots of open space. Covered predominantly with mountainous jungles it is also home to numerous waterfalls and rivers, ideal for long exposure photography.
Our trip was focusing more on shooting the Milky Way above a waterfall in the jungle but we happened on so much more. Snakes and other wildlife as well as awesome beaches and lagoons.
I recently visited with a small group of photographers from our base Okinawa.
Sit back and relax as we look into the green heart of this awesome location.

Heute unternahm ich mit iriomote-osanpo eine Tour. Zunächst paddelten wir mit dem Kayak Richtung Pinaisara Wasserfall und mussten den restlichen 1 Km zu Fuß meistern. Als Stärkung gab es in schönster Kulisse Soba-Nudel. Anschließend machten wir uns bereit für das Canyoning. Ein wirklich spannender Tag auf Iriomote!!! ????
