BERNARD REYNOLDS IRISH LANDSCAPE ARTIST
I came across 3 of this acclaimed Irish artist's landscapes adorning the walls of the lounges of the Slieve Russell Hotel. 'My Goodness!', I said to myself. 'There's a man who knows wthat he is doing with a paintbrush.'
I hope you think the same.
I like the first painting 'Slieve Rushen' here the best. A very atmospheric and evocative depiction of the long often sad road we all travel home. I was surprised at how young the artist is, only turned 40!
The finest contemporary landscape painter in Ireland
(Dr. James White ~ Former director of the National Gallery of Ireland)
Bernard Reynolds was born in County Sligo in 1952. He lived for a time in Wicklow and in County Galway but now lives in Virginia in County Cavan.
He worked as an architectural draughtsman for six years, but decided to become a full-time artist in 1976.
His work shows a great maturity and command of his materials. His style is individual and the content of his painting is unusual in that he paints the rolling landscape of Cavan.
Reynolds captures the flavour and character of the place rather than being representational. Through his eyes we see the landscape in its various moods. He is always experimenting with new techniques, and has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout Ireland. Reynolds' work is exhibited in various galleries, and is held in many private collections all over the world.
Artist's Note
I was born in Ballymote Co. Sligo , Ireland. My family moved to Bray, Co. Wicklow where I lived until I felt I wanted to go west. I went to Galway. There I worked in the design section of Udarás na Gaeltachta. This organisation has the responsibility for the economic and cultural development of the native Irish speaking regions of Ireland. My work there involved travel to many remote but wonderful parts of the west of Ireland. I met and married Deirdre in Galway and shortly after I decided I had to paint. I resigned from my job.
As a young unknown painter I was very fortunate to have been accepted into the Kenny Gallery Galway as one of their gallery artists and later was invited to have several solo exhibitions with Kennys.
Since then my work has been exhibited in many group and solo exhibitions including:
One Hundred Years of Irish Art. Dublin.
The Russian- Irish Art Exhibition. Dublin.
Irish Art, Europe`s Edge. Tromso, Norway
The Royal Hibernian Acedemy. Dublin
Irish Art Exhibition. The World Trade Centre. Boston,The United States.
Trees of Life Exhibition. The Irish Museum of Modern Art , Dublin.
Irish Art Exhibition. The Marco Polo Hotel. Singapore.
A Celebration of the Bog. The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.
Paintings in collections include;
The Coca Cola Company, Atlanta, USA.
Jefferson Smurfit Corporation.
Eagle Star Insurance Co.
The Omni Marco Polo Hotel, Singapore.
The American Ambassador's Residence, Dublin.
The National Museum of Irish Writers, Dublin,
The British Broadcasting Corporation.(BBC)
Ms Jean Kennedy Smith, Boston, USA.
Mr Liam Neeson. California, USA.
The Embassy of Ireland. Oslo, Norway.
The University of Tromso, Norway.
The Slieve Russell Hotel , Cavan , Ireland.
Rosie O`Grady`s New York.
The Archbishop`s Palace, Armagh, Ireland.etc....
I think of my work as a declaration of existence both physical and spiritual. It expresses my interest in all aspects of life and living, whether it is music, art, science, wildlife, folklore etc. All relate to my own sense of place and most especially my native Irish place. Painting is at once, emotional and physical, very intense and demanding. Various ideas are constantly emerging but almost always, I have a clear picture of the finished work. The composition must be just right. The intensity of detail, or lack of it depends on the purpose of the painting or the story that is being told. From time to time I find that a painting may take on a life of its own. It may change as I work but more often than not, before I begin I have a completely clear picture in my mind of the finished work and that is where my focus will be throughout. It may be the cluster of white snowdrops beneath the hedge - that touch of pure white light that shows in the darkness signalling winter is past and spring has arrieved,or, the golden glow of a cornfield as it stands before the first cut. I like to suggest that there is peace and tranquillity all around us if we take the time to look and enjoy. But, Even our sincerest gladness with some pain is fraught so,quite often, my work suggests the bitter sweet truth of existence.
Learn about our great Dublin 8 location
WHAT’S GREAT ABOUT DUBLIN 8.
Learn about our great Dublin 8 location…our home in the heart of the Liberties area of Dublin city.
Since its launch in 2003, The Digital Hub has been home to over 200 technology, internet and digital media businesses.
These companies have all fallen for the charm, community, and lifestyle offered by the local area, and, hopefully, this video will help show why…
The Liberties is an area in Dublin 8, located in the southwest of the inner city. One of Dublin's most historic neighbourhoods, the area is now a centre of enterprise and commercial life in the heart of the city.
Located in the Liberties area of Dublin 8, The Digital Hub is a 20-minute walk to Dublin city centre, and is well connected to all modes of public transport; from trains, trams, and buses to Dublin Bikes and GoCar Car Sharing.
With the city centre within walking distance, and Heuston Station and its Luas Stop even closer, nothing in the city is out of reach.
Once you’re here, you’ll need to eat.
In addition to a cafe on the Digital Hub campus, there is a huge variety of options for lunch, meetings, and after-work events.
For lunch, you can avail of The Tuckshop at The Digital Hub; alternatively, Thomas St. can cater for any palette.
Similarly, if you fancy a tea or coffee, there’s a range of options on your doorstep.
Want to impress? You could try The Guinness Storehouse. Or be inspired by the surrounding creativity and grab lunch in NCAD.
Dublin 8 is a great place to work, but there are many things to do outside of the office too.
Around the corner from The Digital Hub is The Guinness Bicentenary Gym. A quick run across the river brings you to Phoenix Park, while a short stroll gets you to Smithfield and all that it’s got to offer.
You can also enjoy the heritage of Dublin 8 with a quick walk up to Christchurch Cathedral, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, or by taking the immense Dubline tour. Francis St., the centre of the Irish antiques quarter, also offers an interesting glimpse into the past.
The local art scene is exceptional. The area is blessed with famed galleries such as Mother’s Tankstation, and exhibition spaces like the one found in NCAD.
Outside of work, you have a raft of options… the joys of the local, the Tivoli for a show, Vicar St. for a gig, or maybe Smithfield for a film festival.
For the community at The Digital Hub, there are monthly networking events, as well as regular seminars, workshops and socials.
We love how helpful, collaborative, and engaged our Digital Hub community is.
Dublin 8 is a cornerstone of what makes The Digital Hub great; it is a diverse, creative, vibrant community that we are proud to call home.
You can find out more about the Digital Hub campus, our unique location, our range of office space, and other benefits of being based at The Digital Hub at

About Danuna Glass
Danuna Glass was established in 2014 by Irish Glass Artist Catherine Wilcoxson. Under the brand name Danuna Glass, Catherine is launching new product lines including glass jewellery (small pieces of wearable art), kilnformed decorative glass plates and wall art.
Catherine studied at Dun Laoghaire School of Art and Design and graduated from the National College of Art and Design, specialising in Glass. At that time she also attended Summer Workshops and Seminars in France, England and Scotland gaining skills and knowledge from established international Glass Artists.
Later she travelled to the USA where she was employed by Artisan Glass Blowing Studios in Berkely and Oakland, California
From the late 1990's she was privately commissioned to make marble and glass mosaics. Her mosaic bowls were first exhibited in her solo show at the Courthouse Arts Centre, Co. Wicklow in 2001. Her work has since been exhibited in Ireland, England, Belgium and Italy.
Danuna Glass has developed a unique mosaic method to produce intricate designs and patterns in kilnformed glass. The fused glass mosic technique used at Danuna Glass is complex and time consuming. Each item is made up of dozens, hundreds or thousands of tiny individual cut pieces of glass.

GLIMPSE
SAT 27 FEB - SAT 7 MAY 2016
Ground Floor Gallery, Draiocht Blanchardstown
‘I like being distracted, flattered, tickled, even rather upset – but I should not mind something more; I should like something serious. I should like to be changed by more films, as art can change one; I should like something to happen when I go to the cinema’.
Elizabeth Bowen, ‘Why I Go to the Cinema’
These drawings and paintings capture glimpses of cinema interiors and fleeting images of the facades of Irish picture houses. GLIMPSE is infused by Ruth McDonnell’s own passion for cinema and by the years she has spent working in film and television.
Ruth Mc Donnell studied at NCAD Dublin; Medway College of Design, Kent; Dún Laoghaire IADT; and DIT Dublin, where she was awarded a Degree in Fine Art. Her residencies and awards include Royal Dublin Society Printmaking Award; Arts Council bursaries in 2004 and 2008 and Cavan Arts Awards in 2004 and 2013 and a Ballinglen Arts Foundation Fellowship 2014. Ruth has exhibited at the RHA, Dublin; the RUA, Belfast; Éigse, Carlow; VUE, Dublin and in group shows across Ireland.
