Ireland Potato Famine Memorial, Dublin
The haunting images of the millions impacted by the Potato Famine in Ireland in the mid 1800's are captured here in this short video by author and Edgertron's group travel host Charlie Adams. He visits the Memorial designed by Dublin's local artist Rowan Gillespie. This tragic event reduced the Irish population 25 to 30 percent.
Tens of thousands of Notre Dame fans descended on Dublin for the September 2012 game between the Fightin' Irish and longtime rival Navy. It was Notre Dame's first game in Dublin since 1996. Charlie Adams hosted an Edgerton's group trip to the game and throughout Ireland, and produced a 60 minute DVD for each traveler of the trip. Here is a few minutes of that documentary.
Charlie is the author of 2013's 'How to Build a Positive Attitude and KEEP the Darn Thing!!' He delivers keynotes and seminars on the power of the positive attitude to companies, colleges and schools, and churches. To order this book

MOLLY MALONE STATUE - Dublin, Ireland. Remembered in song, music, ghost and statue ❤ Dublin
Molly Malone (also known as Cockles and Mussels or In Dublin's Fair City) is a popular song, set in Dublin, Ireland, which has become the unofficial anthem of Dublin.
The Molly Malone statue in Grafton Street ( was unveiled by then - Lord Mayor of Dublin, Alderman Ben Briscoe during the 1988 Dublin Millennium celebrations, declaring 13 June as Molly Malone Day. The statue was presented to the city by Jury's Hotel Group to mark the Millennium.
Since 18 July 2014, it has been relocated to Suffolk Street, in front of the Tourist Information Office, in order to make way for Luas track - laying work to be completed at the old location. It is a statue every tourist to Dublin needs a picture with! :-)
The song tells the fictional tale of a fishmonger who plied her trade on the streets of Dublin, but who died young, of a fever. In the late 20th century a legend grew up that there was a historical Molly, who lived in the 17th century.
In Dublin's fair city,
Where the girls are so pretty,
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone,
As she wheeled her wheel-barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!
Alive, alive, oh,
Alive, alive, oh,
Crying Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh.
She was a fishmonger,
But sure 'twas no wonder,
For so were her father and mother before,
And they wheeled their barrows,
Through the streets broad and narrow,
Crying, Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!
(chorus)
She died of a fever,
And no one could save her,
And that was the end of sweet Molly Malone.
But her ghost wheels her barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!
(chorus)x2[9]
Molly Malone in Apollo's Medley (1791)[edit]
By the big Hill of Howth,
That's a bit of an Oath,
That to swear by I'm loth,
To the heart of a stone,
But be poison my drink,
If I sleep snore or wink,
Once forgetting to think,
Of your lying alone,
Och it's how I'm in love,
Like a beautiful dove,
That sits cooing above,
In the boughs of a tree;
It's myself I'll soon smother,
In something or other,
Unless I can bother,
Your heart to love me,
Sweet Molly, Sweet Molly Malone,
Sweet Molly, Sweet Molly Malone
I can see if you smile,
Though I'm off half a mile,
For my eyes all the while,
Keep along with my head,
And my head on must know,
When from Molly I go,
Takes his leave with a bow,
And remains in my stead,
(chorus)
Like a bird I could sing,
In the month of the spring,
But it's now no such thing,
I'm quite bothered and dead,
Och I'll roar and I'll groan,
My sweet Molly Malone,
Till I'm bone of your bone,
And asleep in your bed
(chorus)
Some people might not be aware of this famous song in Ireland the same way the Irish people are, but when tourists come to the point when they will be planning their trip to Dublin city in Ireland, one of the things they are advised to visit and come across is the Molly Malone Statue that represents this famous song that has become one of the most famous songs related to Ireland.
Due to the popularity of the Molly Malone song, the artist Jeanne Rynhart decided to bring Molly to the world in a form of a statue. This statue was designed in order to celebrate the city's first millennium in 1988 and it was known as The Tart with the Cart or The Trollop with the Scallop. This statue portrays Molly as a young lady in a seventeenth century dress and the usage of the short cut of the dress that shows the breasts is justified by the belief that women used to breastfed publicly at the time of Molly's and breasts popped everywhere.
Although this famous statue was kept in storage for some time, it has been brought out once again in 2014 and is believed to go back to its original place in Grafton street later this year, 2017.
Let's add this to the list of things to do in Dublin city, Ireland, but one that will not take any time since it is a statue to pass by, take photos of, and take some photos beside then keep going to complete other important items of the list.
Since we are talking about Molly Malone statue then we should shed the light on the Merrion Square Garden in Dublin city which is known to host several statues and memorials that bring tourists to it, such as the famous statue of Oscar Wilde who used to live in Merrion Square for about 26 years (
There are several places that one could visit in Dublin, Ireland, such as walking by the famous Four Courts ( going to the O'Connell street ( or else visiting any of the famous informative museums found there that carries a huge history behind, such as the Dublinia Viking Museum (
