On the Irish Whiskey Trail
There's something undeniably romantic about Irish whiskey, as images of fiery brews and hidden stills scattered secretly across the rolling green hills of the Emerald isle spring instantly to mind. Yet the modern Irish whiskey Industry is as vibrantly international and as up-to-date as it could possibly be, with such brands as Jameson and Bushmills leading the way. As paradoxical as this might sound, the traditions of old Ireland have remained at the very heart of its whiskey production and as more folk have discovered the joys of this timeless golden spirit for themselves, the reputation of Irish whiskey has soared sky high. So, for anyone who'd like to know a little more about this fascinating topic, On the Irish Whiskey Trail is the perfect answer. As we travel from one end of Ireland to the other in search of the finest examples of the whiskey distiller's art, you'll see all the big names in action, and a few surprises into the bargain! There's history, romance, distillery tours and advice on tasting the various brands, and whether you're a veritable connoisseur or a novice, On the Irish Whiskey Trail will set you on a journey of discovery.
Bushmills Distillery; The Oldest Irish Whiskey in Ireland - Whiskey & Bushmills from 1608 #whiskey
Bushmills whiskey distillery in Northern Ireland is the proud home of some of the worlds most famous whiskeys. Visitors can sample whiskey, do a distillery tour, purchase gifts such as whiskey glasses, and of course whiskey! :-)
Bushmills town or village is a small one that is located in county Antrim and one of the most visited places which people hit this small town for is the old Bushmills distillery which is the one serving the oldest Irish whiskey to be found out there ( Bushmills distillery is a place on its own, it serves as a place for people to visit and see how the whiskey is being distilled and even take gifts and souvenirs for themselves while leaving, and it also serves as a place that people could go and taste the whiskey and the different creations that it tends to serve.
It is not just the oldest whiskey distillery in Northern Ireland and Ireland, but it also happens to be the oldest whiskey distillery in the whole world. The history of this distillery started back then when King James I granted the landowner and governor of county Antrim the license to distill in 1608 and that was exactly when the journey of this distillery started.
This journey actually passed by several stops and the official recognition of this distillery was in 1784 when Hugh Anderson registered the Old Bushmills Distillery and the Pot Still became its official registered trade mark, which is still the same until today.
Moving forward with the tax that was added to the malt and with the fire that destroyed the old Bushmills distillery, it still managed to collect its ashes and bring itself back up again. With the hard effort put into this distillery, the place actually won different prizes throughout the years, especially between 1880 and the early 1900's which were even referred to as the golden years.
The success that Bushmills Distillery managed to make urges all the people who tend to visit Bushmills to go and check this place because regardless the wars it passed by and all the downs which might have been part of its story, it always managed to bring itself back up again - and that is one of the things that business owners and those who believe in their dreams should do :-)
There are some interesting stops that Bushmills Distillery managed to win at, such as appearing on the silver screen in the classic movie The Verdict back in 1982. Also, in 2008 when the distillery was celebrating its 400 years, the Bank of Ireland placed the Old Bushmills Distillery on its new banknotes. From that time, there were different things that helped in writing the history of old Bushmills distillery, such as those famous figures from the film, music, and design world who helped in spreading the word about the place, as well as the rewards it received and the first live music festival that took place in it.
While we were touring the place and getting to know more about the history of old Bushmills, we fell in love with the whole place and knowing more about the ups and downs and the success points which this placed passed by. Bushmills Distillery tour will take you through the whole place, will give you the permission to try its whiskey - the most famous is the Bushmills Black Bush, the Bushmills original, and Bushmills single malt - but you could get yourself whatever you might feel like you need (just make sure that you are above the age allowed for drinking :-)).
There are even tours booked for people to come and enjoy walking and exploring the place - which is mainly for those groups who are more than 15 persons. At the end of this Bushmills Distillery tour, you will reach the Bushmills Distillery shop where you will get the chance to bring back home some of the glasses, mugs, key chains, and lots of other souvenirs which are breathtaking just to watch them all even if you are not going to get any of them at the end; we truly loved the shop as much as we loved the place as a whole.
For those who will be visiting the place, there are actually different other places located in Bushmills town or around that stand on the list of places that one should visit while being in Northern Ireland, such as the Giant's Causeway ( Dunluce Castle ( and even checking the famous Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge which is considered the oldest out there and which is also an experience to go and check in this area.
Even if stopping by Bushmills village will be quick as part of your Causeway Coastal Route tour, you should always make a plan to visit the Old Bushmills Distillery which happens to be from the oldest places that form the history of the whole town.
Products available include - Original Irish Blend, Black Bush, 10 year, 16 year and 21 year.

How To Drink Irish Whiskey The Right Way
It is a widely known truth that the best way to drink Irish whiskey is while sitting in a green field, in the shadow of a distillery, while fair maidens dance around you singing the haunting lyrics of Carrickfergus.
If you don’t have access to a green field, an Irish distillery or a host of fair maidens, but if you can at least get your hands on a drop of our lovely brown water, then this episode of Stories and Sips is for you.
----
Stories & Sips exists to introduce current and potential whiskey fans in the United States to the real Ireland and its incredible whiskeys, converting bourbon, scotch and rye drinkers to the often under-appreciated gold that is Irish whiskey.
Our vision is for Ireland to become the world leader in whiskey tourism. The Irish whiskey product has reached an enviable level of quality and is earning deserved worldwide attention. The growth in the number of distilleries and visitor centers offers Ireland a unique opportunity to create a whiskey tourism industry that is the envy of whiskey-producing countries around the world. At Stories & Sips, we intend to do our part.
We will do this by connecting fans emotionally to Ireland and its whiskeys. Through stories, in-person whiskey tastings and trips to Ireland, we’ll help whiskey fans engage deeply with the people and product of our country so that they become lifelong fans, consumers and evangelists.

His favorite whiskey? It would have to be Redbreast 12. His favorite whiskey memory? His 18 year old self ordering and tasting a measure of Midleton Very Rare in 1997 that he had saved up for.

OLD JAMESON WHISKEY DISTILLERY TOUR IN DUBLIN IRELAND-Sláinte!
We took the Old Jameson Whiskey Distillery tour on Bow St. in Dublin, Ireland where we learned the interesting history of the Old Jameson Distillery, including learning about its founder, John Jameson, and his sons. We also were shown how Jameson Whiskey is produced. Of course, the highlight of the tour was participating in some taste testing and getting a free glass of whiskey. I also bought a bottle of Jameson to bring home. As they say in Ireland: Sláinte!

Jameson Whiskey Distillery Tour Dublin Ireland
Jameson was kind enough to offer us a private tour of their retired distillery in Dublin Ireland. We're joined by Niall who walked us through the history, passion, hard work, and dedication, that made Jameson the brand it is today.
The atmosphere in the lobby is intoxicatingly welcoming. As you walk in, you're surrounded with architectural wonders from the ceiling to the floor.
To the right is an astounding bar area filled with brick and character. To the left, is a gift shop and a fill your own bottle of limited edition Jameson pouring straight from the cask.
The floor filled with glass showing the old tunnels and runways in the basement of the distillery.
As you walk through the history of the craft, you start with the grains. It was backbreaking work to move and prepare the grains to start germinating. They were soaked for two days before being laid out in a hot humid room to trick them into thinking it's sprint time to germinate.
Then germinated grains and un germinated grains are mixed and ground into grist. Then this grist is added to water and beat around in the mash tun to release their natural sugars. When that's complete, the mash is moved over to the wash-back where they sit for the next 60 hours. Yeast is added and the mixture begins producing alcohol.
After the 60 hours, the mixture is ready to be distilled. Jameson had decided at that time it would add a third distillation process before their whiskeys were added to the casks. Then, after the whiskey has aged, it's time to blend the sherry, port, and bourbon cask whiskey.
As you walk through the history of the craft, you admire how much thought, work, and patience would go into making every bottle. Finally before you go, a sampling of a few different whiskeys, and finally you can sit and enjoy a Jameson prepared the way you want it.
This place is a must to visit if you're traveling!

Jameson Distillery Bow Street – leading the way in Irish whiskey tourism
The surge in Irish whiskey tourism has been remarkable in recent years. Over 600,000 international visitors now come to Ireland each year to enjoy Irish whiskey visitor experiences. Jameson Distillery Bow Street, in the heart of Dublin, has been to the forefront of this renaissance and it has recently invested €11 million in its tourism experience. The Irish Tourist Industry Confederation (ITIC) met with Ray Dempsey, General Manager of Jameson Distillery Bow Street, to hear about the exciting developments at the revamped visitor attraction, Ireland’s potential to become the world’s leading whiskey tourism destination, and the importance of destination marketing to Irish tourism.
Irish Whiskey Reborn -Teeling Whiskey Documentary
This is my first documentary film to make for my MA degree in journalism. I was very privileged to have the opportunity to meet the master brewer Alex Chasko and learn about making Irish whiskey the Teeling way. Teeling Whiskey is located in Dublin 8, which historically is known for Guinness being located here, however, Dublin 8, over 100 years ago was home to many of Ireland's many different whiskey brands. Dublin 8 is also the site of the 1875 Dublin fire, which is the reason whiskey can no longer be stored within the city and county of Dublin. This is a GREAT tour and I highly recommend tourists, whether you drink or not, to come explore the Teeling Whiskey facility in Dublin or just stop in the Phoenix cafe for a bite to eat. Enjoy my video!

Irish Whisky! (Or is it whiskey??) Whatever the case, we have a nice selection of the famous spirit available on the island of Ireland. Fun fact: the Irish for whiskey is uisce beatha, which directly translates to the water of life...the more you know! So of course, we sat down a number of our resident Irish People to see what they thought.

The Complete Whiskey Course - What is Irish Whiskey?
The Complete Whiskey Course: A Comprehensive Tasting School in Ten Lessons was written by Robin Robinson and is to be published in October 2019 by Sterling Epicure, New York. These informal videos are meant to accompany the text in the book and give further insight on the complexities of whiskey's history, production and variety in today's marketplace. These are not master courses for the distiller, historian or data geek, but a top level understanding of what the entire world of whiskey is like, allowing the newcomer to demystify the liquid and find their own expert within.
