Irohazaka are a pair of winding roads connecting the lower elevation around central Nikko, in the mountains of Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, to the higher elevations of Oku-Nikko located in the northwestern part of Nikko.

Had fun time with everyone at the waterfall. It's my first time seeing one... this is the winding road down after the waterfall view. There are various food stalls and souvenirs up the mountain of the waterfall view. Great time! It wasn't autumn, it would be really nice if it was. Hope you enjoy the video :)

Nikko Nihon Romantic Highway drive
Nikko drive up to Lake Chuzenji which is 1,269m high.
The drive thru' the winding roads was fantastic.
This route is part of the Nihon Romantic Highway(route 120).
Lost count of the number of turns..

Colors of autumn - Irohazaka in Nikko, Tochigi JPN
Irohazaka refers to a pair of long winding road in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture. Iroha was taken from the first 3 words of the old Japanese Hiragana and zaka (or saka) means slope. Uphill and downhill route are separated, both in one way traffic only. The former has 20 hairpin curves and the later has 28. My first stop was at Kurokamidaira viewpoint located 1,173m above sea level. This is the best vantage point to marvel the beauty of Irohazaka uphill covered with the color of autumn. Next stop was Akechidaira Rest Area located 1,274m above sea level. Here you can ride the cable car up to the observation deck overlooking Kegon Falls, Lake Chuzenji and mountains of Nikko area. I wasn't able to capture the downhill route on this video because the condition was not good enough for take-off. However, I had a chance to park at a pit stop overlooking a nice view of Hoto and Hannya Falls along the downhill route. Spent the rest of time walking around Kegon Falls and cruising on Ferry boat at Lake Chuzenji. I had a wonderful view of Mt. Nantai just before the clouds set in, and decided to leave when the rain started pouring on. The weather was constantly changing, rain to cloudy to fair and we had a bonus clear rainbow view on our way downhill. It was only a day roadtrip, and left out passing more beautiful scenic spots but everything has to end.

Japan Trip 2019: Nikko (4K 60FPS)
After a few days in the big city, it's now time to go back to the countryside. My favorite! On the way to the north, Nikko is a small city known for its shrines, temples and mountainous landscapes. It is also part of the Japan Romantic Road. Let's take a good visit!
First thing we did early in the morning was go cross the sacred Shinko bridge. Crossing it gives good luck to couples, love and marriage. The sight was amazing with a view of the river and the mountain in background. At the end of the bridge there is a little box where you can pray and give a bit of money and wish for good luck!
The next thing we did was go walk on to the world heritage road which will lead us to thr many shrines and temples. Rinnoji temple is one of many on the road and one of the most important ones. It was in reconstruction at the time of my visit, but the bright red colors of the temple were beautiful. From there, we go to our main destination: Toshogu shrine.
If you've followed me on my previous trips, I love visiting shrines. They're all different, and this one was probably the most beautiful I saw yet. At the left of the entrance, there is a five story pagoda. The decorations on it were beautiful, decorated with representations of swans and dragons and more. To actually visit inside the shrine, you need to buy a ticket. With it, you gain access to all the temples inside it as well as great sightseeing spots. The memorable ones are the three monkeys carvings, Yomeimon gate, the Crying Dragon float, the Nemurineko sleeping cat carving and finally the inner sanctum. The monkeys are a carving representing see no evil, speak no evil and hear no evil. The Yomeimon gate, in particular, was really beautiful with its gold ornaments and decorations. Definitely one of the best looking ones I've seen yet.
After going through the gate, we saw the main shrine building and visited the insides of it. A small praying ceremony occured. Then, we went to sleeping cat carving, which is looking over everyone to protect them. After crossing the sleeping cat gate, we go up about 305 rock stairs, and get into the inner sanctum mausoleum which is the resting place of the late lord Tokugawa Ieyasu.
To end the day, we went a bit further down the Shinko bridge road to visit the Kanmangafuchi abyss. It is along a calm and soothing rivertrail. Near the end of it, you can see about 70 stones statues of Jizo split in three different group. Jizo was Bodhisattva who cared for the deceased.
This ends the visit to beautiful Nikko. I've learned a lot from my visit. Next stop is the Samurai city of Aizu!

IROHAZAKA WINDING ROAD | TOCHIGI PREFECTURE | JAPAN
Irohazaka is a sightseeing road connecting Nikko city and Lake Chuzenji / Oku-Nikko. The first Iroha Saka on the northern side and the Second Iroha Saka on the south are divided where the Kegon Valley and the Kegon Waterfall is located. The total of both slopes are 48, which also features a sharp curve.
This place was opened in 1982. It was believed to be a sacred place of mountain beliefs since ancient times, but it is said that Iroha Zaka opened at that time. In the Taisho era (1912 – 1926) the road was improved, and became the first Iroha slope roots made. After that, the road improvement was repeated, and in 1965 the second Iroha slope was completed.

Jeden deň sme len tak ležali v posteli a z ničoho nič nás napadla myšlienka dlhodobejšieho cestovania. Začali sme pomaly s plánovaním, ale takým reálnym sa to stalo, až keď sme v decembri 2017 kúpili prvú letenku do Iránu a oznámili to rodine. Našu cestu okolo sveta sme nazvali ako OMG trip, pretože na začiatku to naozaj bolo stále také neuveriteľné: óóóó môj Bože, my naozaj ideme. A sme tu, Filip a Zuzka, ktorí sa vzdali všetkého na Slovensku, práce, bytu a vybrali sa do sveta. Cestovali sme aj predtým s našimi kamošmi, ale vždy to bolo iba na 3 - 4 týždne. Tentokrát sme sa vybrali s dvomi 65l a dvomi 30l ruksakmi do sveta na dlhšie, zatiaľ bez dátumu návratu.

One day we were just lying down in the bed and suddenly idea of long-term travel came out with. We started slowly to plan, but it became real after buying the first ticket to Iran in December 2017 and announcing it to our family. We called our around the world trip as OMG trip because at the begining it was still incredible: oh my God, we are really going. And here we are, Filip and Zuzka, who gave up of everything in Slovakia, work, flat and chose the world. We had already traveled with our friends, but it was only for 3-4 weeks. This time we hit the road with two 65l and two 30l backpacks for longer time, still without return date.

秋の風物詩である「紅葉」撮影の為、栃木県は那須と日光に行ってまいりました。
初日の午前は生憎の雨でしたが、その後は好天に恵まれました。
いくつもの絶景を目前として、撮影するのも忘れてしまうほどでした。
今回は前回使った軽乗用キャンピングではなく、ボンゴベースの立派なキャンピングカーで山中2泊。 人ひとり居ない山中で怖いかと思いきや、お酒さえ飲めばバタンキュー。
日頃の生活から180度違う環境での撮影に大変満足いたしました。
最初の空撮は、ドローンのカメラ設定をミスってしまい、白トビし過ぎていたものを誤魔化しておりますので、ビビットが効きすぎていて見づらいかもです。
また、海外クリエーターが良く使うエフェクトもいくつかチャレンジしてみましたが、やはりこの映像にはあまり合わない気がして一箇所しか使いませんでした。

I ro ha ho he to... is an old fashion way of counting curves in a road in Japan. in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, the winding, one way road down the mountain from Chuuzenji Lake is one of the top scenic drives for autumn colors. It's a beautiful drive, but the road going up the mountain is terribly congested and we counted three vehicles with engine trouble. Must've been due to overheating. It took us 2.5 hours to travel 5km up the mountain! Walking would've been faster.
