MAUI ADVENTURES 2019
The video is on our family vacation to Maui in July of 2019. This was our first trip to the island and we absolutely loved it. The video begins where we stayed which is the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel and the beach. Then we are off to see the sunset at Haleakala but before we get there, you will see some clips of the winding road up to the mountain and what it looks like as soon as you are above cloud level. The video then takes you on our road trip to Hana and a stop over at Haleakala National Park where we took a hike on the Pipiwai Trail. The trail takes you through a bamboo forest then at the end, a 400' waterfall awaits. After that, you will see the doors-off helicopter ride of western Maui, then off to Molokai and back to Maui. The doors-off tour was with Pacific Helicopter Tours. Finally, the video ends with our horseback tour with Ironwood Ranch. Overall, a wonderful experience during our eight day vacation!!

Red Sand Beach Hiking - Hana Maui
Red Sand Beach Hiking - Hana, Maui, Hawaii Red Sand Beach is partially shielded from the rough open ocean by an offshore reef. The result is a natural sea wall that protects the bay from large waves. Kaihalulu is one of the few red sand beaches in the world. The sand is a deep red-black, which contrasts with the blue water, the black sea wall, and the green ironwood trees. The cindercone behind the beach erodes constantly, which continually enlarges the cove. This hill is rich in iron, and is why the beach's sand is such a deep red.
How to Get There No Longer a Secret
The Red Sand Beach (Kaihalulu) is also known as a secret beach. As in it's a secret how to get there.
Happily for you and me, it is NOT a secret any longer!
Directions to the Red Sand Beach (Kaihalulu)
Drive the Hana Highway until you get to Hana. The Red Sand Beach (Kaihalulu, Maui) is located south of Hana Bay.
On your left (east), you will pass Alau Street, Keanini Drive and Keawa Place. When you get to Hauoli Road, turn left (east) and follow it to the end where it intersects with Uakea Road. At this intersection, you'll see the Hana Ball Park on your left, the Hana School (pictured left) and Hana Community Center straight ahead, and the gates to the Travaasa Hotel Hana's sea ranch cottages at the end of Uakea Road on your right.
At the time we were here, there was street parking available in the dead-end section of Uakea Road leading up to the Travaasa Hana property. field on the way to the Red Sand Beach
ironwood tree on trail to red sand beach on Maui
As I understand it, this next part involves heading onto the Hana Community Center and the Travaasa Hana's property, so to avoid trespassing, please ask for permission to look around before you go! Assuming you have permission, look for the yellow gates that open onto a large, rectangular grassy area right next to the community center (it will be on your left if you're facing the Travaasa's gates.)
If you start walking through the field, toward the end of it you'll see a lamp post on your right - there is a narrow dirt trail here that you follow down to an old ironwood tree.
Even if you have no idea what an ironwood tree looks like, you can't miss this one! It's a huge tree in a little clearing with bare dirt and exposed roots all around it.
At the time we were here, there was a home-made sign on the tree cautioning people NOT to take the trail to the left (which I believe goes to a Japanese cemetary), as that was the most dangerous route. As the sign advised, we headed along the trail on the right side of the ironwood tree instead.
